March 7, 200422 yr Hey Paul, There are a couple of things that a developer has to keep in mind when programing such logic. One being the amount of users who will report *BUGS* in the FMS when it does not do what they ask it to do "Oh it was a *varible* we programmed for failures. The other thing is that PMDG already have such a program, that is the failures menu. It about covers all what we are discussing here. And last but not my favorite is the fact that this is a *toy* simulator, I might get beat down for that remark but as long as one is sitting at a desktop computer this will be the case and it's very true that one can only do so much for perfection here. While it is a very good sim (first class like PIC), it is still far from FAA approval but not bad for 39.95! So if anything it is the best (so far) representation of the 737 NG and a *fun* tool to learn some procedures on. [h4]Best Wishes,Randy J. March 8, 200422 yr And please please please include a SAVE function for the panel setup so we don't have to start afresh each time we have to close FS (ie for tea, dinner, bed, walking dog etc)Adam Moore
March 8, 200422 yr Commercial Member Guys, hold on for a second here.Just what is a bug? (Referring to the real aircraft). Is it just that pilots don't know what's going on, or is it really that there is a goblin in the FCC setting a "don't do what you are programmed to do" button every now and again? There are tons of company options, computer settings etc that pilots don't know of, and AOM's don't describe. I assume the 737NG autopilot is similar. Something happens that doesn't correspond to what the pilots THINK it should do, although it is behaving exactly as it is programmed. Now, if you want to simulate this, you'd first have to know how the real autopilot is programmed. How can you find out?Call Boeing or - guess.Boeing would definetely not reveal its program, and if you guess, you get it wrong 99.99% of the time.Having a hard time understanding what I am describing? Read this:Most 767/757 pilots would be amazed, if they turned on the autopilot immediately after takeoff, if the FD had been turned on on ground. Why?They all learned, the autopilot is not capable of flying the TO mode - it's a F/D mode only. Well, there actually is an option to make the AP fly in TO mode, and some airlines have this option installed - even if they don't know this! The AOM's don't cover it...Or lets take the 737 (classic, I don't know if it applies to the NG aswell) What would you say if you flew a single AP approach, and let it fly it to the ground. Would you be amazed if it actually flared? I'm sure you would have expected it to fly INto the runway with -600 fpm. Again, an option in some computer few people know of. Some airlines' 737 perform flares with single AP, some don't.Regards,Mark Mark Foti Author of aviaworx - https://www.aviaworx.com
March 8, 200422 yr Hi PMDG team,I have been flying your 737 600/700 and can say that you are fully right: in FS addon aircrafts you really are second to none.Andreahttp://www.precisionmanuals.com/images/forum/800driver.jpg
