September 12, 200421 yr After a flawless MCP driven test flight in my 600NG from KSEA, I had a most breathtaking approach at dusk into my beloved KSFO, 28L, viewing 80% traffic all over the sky (courtesy UT). The skies were filled everywhere with gorgeous airline traffic. I I timed the entry to the intercept for the LoC to 28L, following a 757, and did a perfect precision approach; the PMDG baby flared like a dream to touchdown on 28L like a cream puff on the TD lines and then on lowering the nose to apply reversers....WHAM! BANG! KA-BOOM! right into a US Airways A320 that was crossing from landing on 28R moments before. This was SICKENING!! I have disabled Crash Realism and it stays disabled. September 12, 200421 yr Been there Jonathan...I would be starting a legal action against KSFO ATC for that runway incursion... What do you think? any lawyer would pick a case like yours for a **small** fee.... bein serious... at least you were able to land, sometimes my rig just do a ctd when I am on finals, now that is annoying!
September 12, 200421 yr Yep so called AI traffic lacks any sort of intelligence. I use Traffic 2004 and frequently have expensive accidents at EGSS.Ben (EGSS) Ben Hall EGSSProud supporter of Intercity Airways, visit www.ViaIntercity.com
September 12, 200421 yr my trick for avoiding traffic at heathrow, is when turning on finals, is to reset the AI, that way any other aircraft turning onto finals, which will collide somewhere down the glide slope, will dissapear as there is a 5 minute or so gap between reset and first ai landing, or aircraft on the runway, will go to their gate. btw, it's best to operate a one take off, one landing set up, less collisions.
September 12, 200421 yr you can always use the traffic explorer from the FS2004 SDK to delete any aircraft that you wish at any time.Landing at EGLL causes lots of trouble with one active landing runway (modified using afcad) with 80% UT traffic. The explorer also lets you watch any other traffic, while youre on a long flight, it helps the pass the time!http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/90844.gifArmen L Cholakianwww.veryquiet.com Armen L CholakianPMDG Sound Engineer
September 12, 200421 yr Last month I was flying a 747 heading to KJFK from KCOS, it was just a "mess around" type of flight, anyway I was cruising at FL380 when all of a sudden wham, my nose heads towards the ground. I thought that the A/P kicked off and maybe some severe winds hit me so I lurch for the joystick and then I see a 757 come into view, this guy plowed right through me! I did not have TCAS and I was leaving the room every once in awhile so I had not tuned center so no traffic warnings. I can not believe with all of that space that I could get hit at FL380! Of course I went down, down, down with no chance of recovery. Thank God that it was not a serious flight, it really is upsetting when everything is set just so and the flight is perfect and then some AI yahoo screws it all up. Anyway Jonathan I feel for you.Take care,Philip Olsonhttp://www.precisionmanuals.com/images/forum/supporter.jpg
September 12, 200421 yr Author Gentleman, one and all:Many thanks for your posts.I think the idea of turning AI down before landing is good. Sometimes, I set AI to 100% before takeoff just to watch stuff flying by and I do turn down afterwards for t/o roll; but this time, I forgot and was engrossed in watching the AI traffic. Perhaps with this lesson I shall be more vigilant in future. Thanks again!JS Jonathan Sacks Dell XPS Gen 4, Pentium IV Northwood extreme 3.8Ghz, 3Ghz RAM, eVGA 7900 GTO, 12 GoFlight modules plus MCP-PRO AP and EFIS, GF pedestal, CH rudder pedals, CH throttle quadrant, 42" LG LED, 24" DELL LCD, Windows XP, FS2004, FSUIPC 3.96 FS Autostart 1.1 (Build 11), FS Navigator 4.6, UT, FE, GE, REX, PMDG, Level-D, PSS, etc.
September 12, 200421 yr Jonathan,You can, of course, edit the airport using Afcad2 to make the runways behave more realistically. Using Afcad2 you can force certain runways to be landing only or takeoff only.At heathrow (EGLL) there are two runways, and it is unrealistic to have both runways landing and taking off simultaneously.A little Afcad2 edit forces 9L for landings and 9R for takeoffs, same with 27R landings and 27L takeoffs. You can get if off avsim. Took me a few minutes to work it out but its quite straightforward!http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/90903.gifArmen L Cholakianwww.veryquiet.com Armen L CholakianPMDG Sound Engineer
September 12, 200421 yr Author Thanks Armen. But would it not upset the settings within Ultimate Traffic if I did that?JS Jonathan Sacks Dell XPS Gen 4, Pentium IV Northwood extreme 3.8Ghz, 3Ghz RAM, eVGA 7900 GTO, 12 GoFlight modules plus MCP-PRO AP and EFIS, GF pedestal, CH rudder pedals, CH throttle quadrant, 42" LG LED, 24" DELL LCD, Windows XP, FS2004, FSUIPC 3.96 FS Autostart 1.1 (Build 11), FS Navigator 4.6, UT, FE, GE, REX, PMDG, Level-D, PSS, etc.
September 13, 200421 yr JS,It shouldnt be too much trouble, the file concerned is located in your "addon scenery" folder and its called "F1UT_KSFO.bgl".Make a backup of the file and open it with afcad, modify the runways as shown above and overwrite the file.Works wonders! Ive been improving the realism of all the airports I use. I know UT is great but it really sucks seeing aircraft landing on parallel runways when they shouldnt be, however some US airports are like that anyway!Best regardsArmen L Cholakianwww.veryquiet.com Armen L CholakianPMDG Sound Engineer
September 13, 200421 yr I knew about this app, but never tried it. Looks kinda cool. When you delete the flight, does it delete for good, or just per session? September 14, 200421 yr Hi,I assigned a few keys using FSUIPC for setting my AI to 5,30,60 and 80%. Whenever FPS or stutters suck I turn the AI down (and this has some effect on FPS even if you don't see the AI planes). I do the same before landing, so none of these Artificial Idiots comes into my way.Alex Alex' Projects: Little Navmap
September 14, 200421 yr How did you assign keys for AI settings. I have the registered version of FSUIPC.
September 14, 200421 yr Author Good question. I don't understand squat about assigning keys for anything (like GoFlight too).Jonathan Jonathan Sacks Dell XPS Gen 4, Pentium IV Northwood extreme 3.8Ghz, 3Ghz RAM, eVGA 7900 GTO, 12 GoFlight modules plus MCP-PRO AP and EFIS, GF pedestal, CH rudder pedals, CH throttle quadrant, 42" LG LED, 24" DELL LCD, Windows XP, FS2004, FSUIPC 3.96 FS Autostart 1.1 (Build 11), FS Navigator 4.6, UT, FE, GE, REX, PMDG, Level-D, PSS, etc.
