Pmdg 738 sounds.....

Featured Replies

Hello guys, I just have a quick question for anyone who knows the answer and for the administrators. Are the pmdg engine sounds accurate for that aircraft.? If I were to enter into a boeing 738 are those the exact sounds that I am going to hear, from engine startup to shutdown?personal motto: "If you look for it, it will come"

Probably not exactly, but it will be darn close!!! Not all engines sound exactly alike. Maintenance can change parts which could change the pitch of the engine noise. Other airlines might order special features to do something like cutting down on noise for passenger comfort, etc...But what you hear in the PMDG 737 will be painfully similar to what you will hear in the real thing!Dave Needham

I have the WAR Virgin Blue DVD. At least in the -800 it is a very big diffrence between IRL and PMDG.CheersJohan "Whats VNAV?!?!" Adolfsson

Guys,Before this thread will become ugly. :+ Let's remember that microphones used for recording and the human ear will 'sense' the sound waves differently. Also two different types of mic's will probably make the sound sound different. Not talking about the editing equipment used. It's like fotographic film. What is a 'real' depiction of reality?Cheers,

What is a 'real' depiction of>reality?>>Cheers,It really makes a big difference as to exactly where the microphone is placed also. I have seen quite a few people that sit in the cabin and wonder why the cockpit sound of the 737 is different than what you hear in the cabin. This also varies quite a bit as to where you sit in the cabin.

It also depends on your sound settings in FS... which I am wondering myself how it should be set up ;)

I have been on a boeing 737-800 many times and each time, I do not recognise PMDG's sounds. However, I'm sure PMDG recorded the real sound quite accurately and perhaps, it's so accurate that it sounds different. What I think is strange though, is that all PMDG 737's sound similar. I can imagine a 737-600 to sound different than a 737-900.Dirk

Where do you guys think that PMDG got the sounds from??? Another SUBJECTIVE subject. I've been on a NG MANY times but as everyone knows (or should) you cannot compare what you hear from your seat to the cockpit! One can barely hear one think in the real cockpit.....Best Wishes,
Randy J. Smith
http://www.rawbw.com/~bdoolin/shinault/Animation1.gifCaution! I have seen a lot of 737 cockpit movies, and the sound is much more different. It sounds almost the same as in the cabin in my experience...I think the Ariane sound is much better

Listen up guys I have been on the 738 many times and I know for a fact that the pmdg sounds are not what they should be, and I can prove it. Dont get me wrong though, I love PMDG for what they are doing to bring the closest thing to the real thing to our desktops and I think their panel recreation is extraordinary, in fact since I got it a few weeks ago I havent touched my a330s from pss. AND IM NOT BASHING THEM AT ALL, MY SIMPLE ARGUMENT IS THAT THE SOUNDS ARE NOT TOTALLY ACCURATE. How I know:videos from flightlevel350.com. U guys should check it out if u havent allready especially the ata landing at LGA( which is across the street from my school) also the alaska 739 takeoff. Both would give u two perspectives of the engine sounds. I know for a fact that all tubofan engine have a low pitched growl and high pitched whine at full power( all of which are absent from the sound file at question.) Of course each whine and growl differs in sound due to the size and number of blades. And Im fully aware that the sounds change not only with seat position but with speed and angle of attack.(check out a340.net, the a320 delivery flight to tampa.) Secondly, I purchased the 777 digital soundset from aaron swindle a few years ago and Im quite surprised to see the MAJORITY of the sounds he said he recorded from a triple 7 in the pmdg soundset. Thats how I know. The startup, shutdown sounds are all his. The Idle groan sounds where in that same sound file that I purchased from him. In fact, any of u guys who have the 777 soundset can back me up on this, he even named some of the files in a similar manner, 7771, 7772, 7773, 7774 etc. And I could keep on goin guys.My thing is im tryin to get the MAXIMUM realism as possible. I want to have the feeling of actually being there in the 737 cocpit, and by far, I have this absolutely wonderful 737 panel to start off with. But as a pilot in training Im never satisfied with almost. All im simply sayin is that i wish that the sounds were a little MORE closer to the real thing.

BTW, I also, by starting this topic, get an idea of wat my fellow simmers thought bout the snzs, and the majority of u hit the hammer right on the nail, thanx for the posts. GW

You need to sign your name to your posts sir. I will say it again, these sounds are from the real aircraft, what you hear on a video means nothing since there are 4 NG pilots on this tean who think the sounds are right and in fact provided some of the sound items. You can argue about what you think sounds real etc but it is a subjective thread based upon opinion since the fact remains these sounds ARE from the real bird....End of story IMO..Best Wishes,
Randy J. Randy,Can you or some of the pilot share your sound settings/levels in FS with US?Thanks.

Conclusion: bad recordThanks ;)

question though, what about the turbofan sounds that the bird normally makes? Im not basing this totally on flight videos, but rather from what I hear from my own two ears everyday when these birds are takeing off rnwy 4 at lga across the street from my school. And from the countless flights I have on the 738 twice a year. Its a proven fact that what u hear on the outside is a bit more muffled from the inside. two more questions;what does "IMO" mean? and are u one the pmdg team?GW
