July 9, 200520 yr Oh my goth . . . I think, now that I am thinking about it, that I really need to upgrade. I could use getting my claws on that new Pentium processor T-Socket and I hear there is a better type of memory now. Wonder how much that will cost for upgrade.
July 9, 200520 yr Probably showing my age here but this thread got me digging through the boxes in the garage and I found I have every copy of MSFS since version 4.0.Back then it came on two disks. No, not CD's ..... floppies!!!If I remember correctly sound came out that little single built in speaker that was wired to the motherboard and RAM was measured in single digits. My 486/33 had no trouble keeping up with whatever Flight sim threw at it.I tried re-installing V4.0 but my P4 3.06GHz promptly spat it out again.John EDMONDSONYBBN (Brisbane)
July 9, 200520 yr Author Boy, I was a senior in HS when MSFS 4.0 came out. :( I didn't even run a computer at that time. I had been into the Commodore 64 and Texas Instrument Ti99. After that, I stopped computing until 93, but didn't start flight simming until 2000 came out. - Chris Gigabyte Z790 Aorus Elite AX | Intel Core i9 13900KF | Gigabyte GeForce RTX 4090 24 GB | 64GB DDR5 SDRAM | Corsair H100i Elite 240mm Liquid Cooling | 1TB & 2TB Samsung Gen 4 SSD | 1000 Watt Gold PSU | Windows 11 Pro | Thrustmaster Boeing Yoke | Thrustmaster TCA Captain X Airbus | Asus ROG 38" 4k IPS Monitor (PG38UQ) Asus Maximus VII Hero motherboard | Intel i7 4790k CPU | MSI GTX 970 4 GB video card | Corsair DDR3 2133 32GB SDRAM | Corsair H50 water cooler | Samsung 850 EVO 250GB SSD (2) | EVGA 1000 watt PSU - Retired

July 10, 200520 yr I have a AMD 64 3200+, ATI X800XT PE (Sapphire) 1 GIG DDR 3200 Ram on an ASUS board and FS runs pretty well. I cannot run Ultimate Terrain at night though if that tells you anything but the 744 runs just great even from the VC, in fact it runs much better than the 737 series. What I have found is that a ok video card like a 9800 PRO with a very fast CPU can do what I can do in FS, my 500+ video card only comes into play at very high res or with non FS titles like Battlefield 2. SO what I am saying is - save your cash for a good CPU and mainboard if you want the best in FS....
Randy J. Smith
Randy J Smith
