Crackling sound after the update

Featured Replies

I have the same problem. It is so loud that I drown out the ATC. I lower the engine sounds to minimal but this doesn't work. By the was, the sound ONLY starts above 5000' with me - Why I have NF idea?

Well...can't know how this sound is heard for the rest of you but here it's a real noice and maybe it's meant to be that way and also equals reality and if so that might be one of the very few things that doesn't make me envy real 747 drivers ;-)

Mats,Thought I should do some testing to see if it's really the stall warning sound that we hear, could you please confirm that the stickshaker sound is the PMDG747_STALL.wav file? What I will try is to decrease the volume for that wave file only to see if it also shows any difference in FS when we normally get this crackling sound just to make sure we've found the correct sound/file and don't talk about different sounds.

Mr/Ms Nameless,Please sign your posts with your real name as per the forum rules. Thanks. In your case I think we're talking about the wind sounds. It becomes very distinct over 250 knots and according to our real 744 drivers in the group is close to the real sound. The 744 is apparently noisy up on the flight deck. Hope it helps,

Richard,I found a wave file named PMDG747_STALL.WAV in the %FS-root%AircraftPMDG747-400sound folder but I don't think this is the sound. I should sound more like a loud obnoxious John Deere tractor. :-)Check the PMDG747_SHAKER.WAV as that is the sound for the stick shaker used in the latest version. You can find it in the %FS-root%SoundsPmdg747400 folder.Hope it helps,

Marc after noting that I'm not the only one with this sound problem could you perhaps suggest to the PMDg team that you produce a small patch designed to undo the change made to the sound files by the new Service Pack? That might solve the problem for those of us in this position. It won't effect the lucky others that don't have the problem as they won't need to use the patch. As things stand at the moment I find no point in using "The Queen" as, once the noise begins, the flight has to end.Cliff

Bingo Mats! I checked that file and that is exactly the sound at least I have been talking about and probably the others as well. I tried to lower the volume for that particular wave file using the built-in sound recorder in Windows and now it's much better :-)Thanks alot for pointing me in the right direction - problem solved :-)!

I'm glad we were able to solve this problem too! :-)Cheers,

Hi Cliff! Not sure if you've seen the posts discussing it but it seems that the sound we hear (assuming we're speaking about the same sound) is when the a/c is close to enter a stall condition and the file that generates this sound is called PMDG747_SHAKER.wav in the folder C:Program FilesMicrosoft GamesFlight Simulator 9SoundPmdg747400.What you can do is to right click on that file with your mouse and choose 'Record' from the context menu that pops up. That will start Windows built-in sound recorder. Once started you can choose to decrease the volume under the 'Effects' menu - each time you click on 'Decrease volume' you will lower the volume one bit and after each click you can listen to the sound by pressing the 'Play'-button and once you're satisfied you simply close the program and answer 'Yes' when you're asked if you want to save the file. Also a smart move might be to do a copy of this file before you start modifying it so you can get back to the original in case you want.I used this method with almost all GPWS sound files with the 737 since some of the sounds were far to loud for my ears, it's a great way to end up with exactly the volume you prefer of every sound. But of course the best thing with this particular sound is to not end up in a situation where you're close to a stall...;-)

Speaking about the sound files Mats, I can barely hear the engines spooling up when I fire up the engines and then when I had a look it seems to be a file called PMDG747_ENGSTART.wav that is responsible for this sound but what I find strange is that this file is both in the different sound directories under C:Program FilesMicrosoft GamesFlight Simulator 9AircraftPMDG747-400 (sound, sound.PW and sound.RR) but also in C:Program FilesMicrosoft GamesFlight Simulator 9SoundPmdg747400 and the size of the file is not the same. Why are there two different files for the same sound and do you know which one is used...?Guess I'm a bit off on the 'unsupported path' here but I promise I will make a good backup first ;-)

Hi!This is already an old post but it is actuality for me today.Although I had a good time reading the posts and good laugh, I was very embarassed to solve my problem specially with the chap from ATC keeping me to climb to 34000 feet and I was running out of steam and could not increase my speed.I enjoyed everybody trying to explain the funny sound but the answer had already been given several posts ahead!:-)Yes the sound is generated from sound file PMDG747_SHAKER. Just play it for a second and you will know if this is the match. Now, what brought me in this situation? Why suddenly I started to lose speed while in A/P following LNAV from FMC and VNAV manually from ATC.Could it be a problem of icing? I have switched on all the de-icing devices in flight(not sure if this is right procedure in real), I have descent to some 25000 ft, I gained speed and once back above yellow line, switched back all LNAV and VNAV and speed raised to normal as well as altitude. Icing problem. I left KBOS with snow on the runway and crossed some clouds at low altitude. Here are 2 pics of the situation. One at low speed and one at recovery. I think the upcomming sound update patch will sort this issue out.I am sure we will benefit greatly with it.Anthony ReesCape Town

ETA? PMDG? Yeah, right.
