November 19, 200718 yr For most of you that would like to read more about what is going on from the PMDG MD-11, here it is.Bill G. Micheal G., Rob and all the guys at the convention did a great job demonstrating the product. Not only did we get a detailed presentation both corporatley and invidually, but some of us were actually able to start up form cold and dark, and set up for a short flight, and I wanted to share that expierence here. So, most of you want to know how far along it is. Well, its still in alpha.I could confidently say in the late stages. Of course they wouldnt give me any release date, nor did I ask. It appears to be about 90 percent complete. There were a few details to work out on the ext. model, like little finishing " drawing " the pitot tubes, putting faces on the pilots, and refining various parts of the animations etc. The Model is beautiful and it is everything you would expect. Systems and functionality, seemed to be complete which brings us to the panels. The 2d cockpit was the most impressive thing I have ever seen in ANY add-on thus far including the 747x. Before I flew the aircraft, I saw every panel ( there are so many at least 15 subpanels). PMDG has really thought thru every little and large detail on the panel itself. Even the oxygen panel is operative and functional. The Cabin attendant system is interactive and functional. After seeing the deatil of the panel it was very clear to me why this has taken so long. It is far more complex than it looks. Although they have done a good to make it user freindly inspite of this. To sum it up. Everything is completely modeled and for the most part functional. The sounds were extremely detailed, and every thing that is suppose to make a sound....does! The FMC was complete and preformed perfectly. No detail left out here. I didnt spend much time in the VC, and I notice they didn't go into to much detail here. Perhaps a few details left to complete there. However I did see it and it does appear to be complete as well.As I am not a real Pilot, I couldn't say about the Flight Dynamics, other than to say it felt like a heavy aircraft should...heavy. Smooth, precise, but slow to respond as you would expect. I was told the dynamics are still being refined. Something new: You can actually refuel the plane while on the ground switch to the fuel page, as you watch the tanks being filled in real time! Hows that for detail! and of course you can do it the " old " fashioned way too, Load 'em up from the menu. hands down I prefer to watch them as they fill. In summary. The aircraft to me was a combination of Airbus, and boeing, with its automated systems. You do have the choice as in the real plane to switch to " manual" modes. If you like me you'll love this because I want every system detailed to its exact specification, as in the real one. Otherwise whats the point? The biggest concern I have had was why are we waiting so long? Hands down, I have a better understanding now after actually puting my hands and eyes on this one. I have all the " good" add-ons, and not so good ones, so I can confidently say, in terms of detail and functionality as well as user freindly, nothing compares. Not even close. PMDG claims it to be a step above the 747x...And I think it to be more of a leap! It was hard to walk away from this one. The detail of the sytems is absoultley incredible. Thanks to Micheal F. for explaining so much of the systems to me. I have no doubt now it is worth the wait. Really, I don't think it will be much longer. Now, I dont normally post in these fourms. But I was so impressed, I simply couldnt resist letting you all know it.Peter OsbornCap'n Ozzie
December 13, 200718 yr Author >I sure hope the MD-11 comes out for FS9. What a treat that>will be!It's already been announced that it will be for FS9. :)
December 24, 200718 yr Just wondering, any idea about the release date? :DCan't wait to fly this beautifull tri-jet, it will for sure be my favourite.
January 21, 200818 yr I haven't heard any up to date release info from Precision Manuals; however, pcaviator.com shoes the PMDG MD-11 on preorder to be released on May 01, 2008 for $59.95 USD and compatiable with FSX and FS2004. I am waiting for the direct release from Precision Manuals, but not definitive time period has been released from them at this time.I agree with you. Can't wait to fly this one. I've always liked the tri-jet over any other aircraft. Perry Fincher Perry Fincher CEO of Pan American Virtual https://paaclippersva.com/
January 21, 200818 yr Commercial Member Perry, for your information... all prices and release dates you see on ANY distributor's website are just made up by them.Regards,Markus Markus Burkhard
January 25, 200818 yr >Perry,>>for your information... all prices and release dates you see>on ANY distributor's website are just made up by them.>>Regards,>Markus>I'm curious then, why doesn't PMDG put a stop to this practice?Regards.
February 15, 200818 yr It's hard to express how excited I am about discovering the MD-11 will be for FS9. I'd heard in another thread elsewhere on the forum that it was to be only for FSX and I was deeply saddened. Tri-jets are my favorite airliners and the MD-11 is my favorite tri-jet - ever since I rode on an MD-11 probably 15 years ago at the age of 13 or so I was in love with the aircraft, and the DC-10 before that (as back then I just saw the MD-11 as a bigger, badder, newer DC-10).So to PMDG - thanks again for developing something of this nature for FS9 for those of us who don't have a supercomputer to run our flight simulator on :DNC
February 21, 200818 yr Hey how is the project going so far have you guys been able to set a date yet for release or anything " just trying stay up to date on this i havent seend much said lately".Signature Rules: 1.) February 26, 200818 yr They dont set a release date; if youve been around PMDG for awhile you know instantly when a release is imminent by the activity on the forums by PMDG themselves.
March 12, 200818 yr There has been a bit but i assume that the date will be when they say it done release it. I would like to ask in regards to a message i read on the forum d you guys know if they plan to release the MD-11 on a CD-Rom and if they do how would that work Verses downloading it. I plan my self to refill my ink cartridges on my printer so i can review the manual and run it up against the plane itself which may say i will be spending most of my getting to know it time at 300 or 360 just be able to test the system when i get to one in the manual. I also plan to write a full review on this system as well and a report on the detail the Developers went into as i am attending AIU Collage in April an will be studying for a associates degree in Game and Simulation design of just plan old software programing and a bachelors in Forensic Science I also look forward mostly to an MD-11 with a VCockpit I used one for a while and couldn't get over not being able to fly in the VCockpit when I flew in it.Signature Rules: 1.)
