PICv2 UPDATE

Featured Replies

PICv2 Developers,Would you care to give a few words to your loyal fans regarding the developement of v2? We understand the developement is going nicely. However, are we getting close to a beta? Can we expect some previews in the industry pubs such as Computer Pilot, and so on? Any comments will be appreciated.

I suspect the recent posting by the team saying development is going quite nicely is all we will hear on version 2 until they are ready to give a more indepth reply.

Mark,Thanks. I kinda figured that is the case. However, I was hoping that the developers would at least give their PICv1 fans some sort of official update.

"I was hoping that the developers would at least give their PICv1 fans some sort of official update."Ah, but loyal PICv1 fans should know that the PIC team don't make premature, overexaggerated and unnecessary announcements ;-) If the rumour is true that the PIC team are only in "alpha" stage, then it would be pointless to add further comment (How long is a piece of string?). If it's like other sims, "alpha phase" consists of suggestions, modifications, testing, compromises, more suggestions, back-pedalling, forward pedalling, adjustments, tinkerings, improvements, utter despair, revelation, success, learning, etc....I've even heard of beta testings which have had 60 or more versions. The expression "progressing nicely" should give those folks waiting for PICv2 the hint that work has not stopped on the next version and should stop the nasty rumours that PICv2 will never come out).As it has been said before... regular comments by the management on the progress of the sim would slow down the progress of the sim. The mere obvservation of progress could change the state of the progress (as Mr Erwin Schrodinger (and his cat) would say)...Ref: http://whatis.techtarget.com/definition/0,...i341236,00.htmlHope this helps???Cheers.Ian.

Ian,Thanks for the "rumors." As FS2004 firmly implants itself and continues to grow on my hard drive, I find more and more excuses NOT to use FS2002 anymore. Thus, I was hoping the rumors would be of a v2 springing into a wonderful BETA stage. . .with over half the betas completed. . .maybe even nearing gold. But if rumor has it, v2 sounds like a bit in the far distance. However, the true PIC fan will still have anticipation and I'm sure will be pleased with a great release of a great new version. Heck, I have a rumor of guy I know with over 3,000 hours in real 75/76s that likes PIC so much that he can't wait to get his hands on v2. Man, if he can't wait, I'm sure final release will be worth it. Thanks again for the "rumors."

Are you all serious? Are you all puppets? Are you zombies walking around with your heads chopped off? Are you robots who are cloned and programmed to just settle with "its going nicely" What is that? If a plumber came to fix something and he took 8 months to do it, and when asked how is the progress, all he can tell me is, "its going nicely." Well you can imagine the rest. It's not the time he takes but rather the lack of information given. As future consumers of this product, we have the right to know these things. A website would help, instead of searching forum databases all night. Monthly updates is not really far fetched now, is it? "comments by the management on the progress of the sim would slow down the progress of the sim"Give me a break. We are not talking about the pony express here.Don't get me wrong, I commend and applaud your efforts. It's just that, a little detailed progress report goes a long way for the many, as Hawkman so patiently put it, "loyal fans" who are lined up to spend cash on your product. This will also help you retain them so they don't grow restless. That's all.

Okay - it's going VERY nicely. Is that better?Jeez.

I think an extra white line was added to the panel yesterday... Then a green one was added, but it turned out to be the wrong colour, so a red one was added.... But then everyone decided it should be "magenta". Then it was decided that it wasn't quite the right length (at Mach 0.82316759).....Meanwhile someone posted an abusive letter on the PIC forum which turned out to be a point of great debate... which completely distracted the developers from their programming duties for many hours. Then someone vital to the development team took the weekend off with the 'flu, so the entire team decided to take it easy for a while, so the poor guy with the flu didn't miss anything.Interesting stuff these updates, aren't they?(IMHO) I don't think the PIC team would worry at all if all the customers lost interest for a while/took a break. I'm sure word will spread fairly quickly when PICv2 is released.... and hear how good it is.... then everyone will come rushing back.Cheers.Ian.P.S. BTW, if you (personally) pay the PIC team by the hour (at plumbers rates) to comment on the sim, then I guess they might drop you a decent hint every now and then.

Well a plumber gets approx

>As future consumers of this product, we have the right to know>these things. will also>help you retain them so they don't grow restless. That's all. This is probably the single most bogus comment I've heard this month. Until someone decides to announce something, there isn't even a product for their to be future consumers. "Future consumers" have no rights at all and writing offensive posts like this make it more likely that there won't be any product for them to consume.

o fortunate plumber you mean ;)

Ok, lets take the already started example with the plumber:If you ask, and pay, a plumber to install a new toilet in your new bathroom you would expect it to take less than 8 months and get more information about the progress if it actually takes 8 months. But here we are talking about a product that you haven't bought, and if the producers want to make the future customers wait, then they can do that. If the producers decides to stop the development of the new product because there was so many angry customers already before the product was released, then they can do that.Everybody expected that the PIC767 would be upgraded for FS9, but nobody can ever demand it, because you have bought a product for FS2000. Therefor I'm very glad that the former PIC-team has decided to make a new version. If it takes them 5 years and a lot of FS-versions without a good 767-panel, then it's their choice. The product is now released, and you have not bought it, so you can't demand anything from them.So again, I want to thank the PIC-team for their work on the new product, and I'm sure it will be great IF it at anytime will be released for public. And I'm sorry for my bad English, hope you understand my points :)

Your English is just fine, as is your take on this issue. :)

I see that we have some overly sensitive people in this forum who are taking things, rather, too personal. And, Those people who have no idea about the progress or any clue as to what color the panel is going to be should best stay quite. This is how this thing got started in the first place.I didn't by any means, wish my post to be offensive to anyone of the developers. As I stated before, I commend your efforts and wish you the best. It's safe to say that there was never an "official announcement," as I am learning now. With that being said, If you haven't announced any product than there is no product. Only heresay. But, given the benefit of the doubt, I can only wish to see your product soon.
