Not to be cute, but you are getting into a hazy area here. As a science teacher I know that, in the real world you may get a little haze or fog if the winds are calm. But with winds you may not. Also, the ground temperature comes into play. Weather in general is not an exact science due to so many variables. After this, let's try to keep this thread on track. We are wandering a bit too much now. Feel free to start a new topic in the forum!Hope this helps,JimActiveSky Supporthttp://www.hifisim.com/images/as2004proudsupporter.jpg

Hi,During the wx briefing, each waypoint will be scanned for closest METAR and for closest TAF, and that is what you see as "enroute" entries. 147nm isn't out of the question for an entry, if the closest TAF station is indeed 147nm from the waypoint. This is simply realistic planning information, and does not depict what you are going to actually see in the sim (where interpolation in both AS2 and FS9 have effect). When you are viewing the "closest" station report in the main sceen, it is the actual depicted wx, and there will be an entry (from real data or "AS2 GENERATED" aka interpolated) for each actual FS9 wx station (even though the data may have been generated from stations with varying influence up to several hundred miles away). To put it another way, those briefing entries are there to help you estimate the wx when there is no reporting/forecasting equipment. They are not meant to match the actual wx (or dynamic wx via TAF) to be depicted (although it can sometimes be close) for each waypoint since no real-world data exists. In your case it appears only the TAF is missing local data at those stations, and 90% of the time this is moot since you're using METAR data instead.Hope that helps!-Damian

Hi,I'm just a bit disappointed about MR2 Beta.It seems that you didn't implement an option that could allow to prevent from having weather update when the plane is on the ground. It's really a pity to see sudden change of cloud when I am the taxiway waiting for a departure. I know this is a normal behaviour of AS2004 but not in real condition. I just ask you if you could just offer us that new option in order to have local suppression range even we are on the ground.Thank you for your work.Regards.

There would also have to be some kind of incremental smoothing as you start your take-off role and climb-out transitioning to an enroute smooth changing condition.I think it was stated here that only global weather writes are used on the ground and at some point local weather writes are used as you cross the jurisdictions of the individual reporting stations.Perhaps the smoothing algorithms are not applied to global writes, but it would be nice to smooth cloud density progression while you're sitting on the ground as you state.

Hi,Incremental cloud changes don't work in FS9 unfortunately. We can't repeadedly write to a wx station's settings without resending the entire wx structure, which is a big performance hit and causes FS9 to lose clouds entirely in those stations, a problem we dealt with earlier in AS2004 history.I will work on getting an option in to prevent on-the-ground updates after the initial wx set. Thanks for the input guys!-Damian

Update:We are working on a new beta build with significant improvements from B102. This includes new FSUIPC wind smoothing interaction (eliminating all wind shifts) and removes the need for route-based wind smoothing. This also eliminates problematic temperature issues and enhances upper altitude simulation for high-altitude aircraft such as Concorde. Many more improvements have also been made (more details soon).Right now things are in private beta and looking real good. Once the official new FSUIPC version is released with the wind smoothing support, we will make the new beta build public. Check back on the forum soon... we will make a new topic when the details become available...Thanks everyone!!!-Damian

Thank you for the kind words :)Quick status update: We are preparing to publicly beta test the latest build of MR2. All issues observed have been addressed. I will now lock this thread, and we will open a new one upon the new beta release. Thanks everyone for testing, reporting and providing great input!
