Horizon Haze Problem.

Featured Replies

Chris,I am now really confused.By reducing max visibility settings (both in ASV and FS9) the hard line just comes closer, but is still there. This has also been reported by other posters.I am running with max ASV vis set to 59 and FS vis and cloud draw set to 60.Are you saying that when a metar gives 9999 there will always be a hard horizon? Is there no way of working around this, as from real world flying I know for sure that a hard horizon is almost a rarity in our modern poluted day. It is more accentuated at Dusk etc, but most of the time there is always haze bluring the horizon. Is there no way of limiting the weather generator when it gets a 9999 reading (which could be anything from 10km to 500km) to giving 10-20km max?As an Air Traffic Controller I am also met qualified, and have to put out a METAR every 30 minutes for our airport. We have a visisblity recorder, which gives a fairly acurate figure by looking at the vis between two transmisometers, and it rarely goes above 20km.Thanks for all your help,Much appreciated,Neil

I set the weather manually using WX configurator to CAVOKFirst screen shot with max VIS set to 59http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/130328.jpgSecond with max vis set to 20http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/130329.jpgThe first one (with greater vis) actually looks better?????????The horizon smoothing seems better with greater VIS set. As I mentioned above, both pictures taken with CAVOK weather in same location at same time of day.

HI Neil,Did you close ASV when you have change the setting? when a setting is change in asv option, we should press save and close button before we leave the option interface, then close asv completly and re start asv.You can also ajust the sight distant slider in fs2004 display setting to left.ThanksChris WillisHiFi Simulation Software Team Developerhttp://www.hifisim.com/images/asv_dev_team.jpg http://www.hifisim.com/images/asv_proud_supporter.jpg

Hi All,I have no idea whether this error is directly connected with installing ASV Enhanced Beta, but it seems to have appeared after the installation.Using ASV defaults (I have tried almost every combination of settings though) I seem to have a problem with my horizon. No matter what viz distance I set my horizon has suddenly become this ugly straight blue line in space, the lower the viz distance is set the closer the blue line comes. Now everything appears to be normal until climbing above 10 or 11,000 feet, the bingo the lovely fogging disappears and here's your blue line. Here's what I mean..Below FL100 - http://www.nigel.net/horiz02.jpgAbove FL110 - http://www.nigel.net/horiz01.jpgI have tried all manor of things to rectify this and nothing works, can someone shed some light on this for me please as I have almost given up hope and can't stand the thought of having to reinstall FS and all my A/C and other bolt-on's again.NigelSystem: - Intel P4 3.61.5Gb DDRGFX - Ge-Force 6600 GT-OCFS 2004 9.1

Hi Chris,I changed the Max vis to 20, clicked save and close, closed down ASV.Restarted ASV, set weather manually to CAVOK, started FS9 (the sight distance slider has always been on minumum setting on my system)and waited for weather to upload. Then I took the screen shot.Don't get me wrong, I still believe this is an amazing product, I suppose I just want the icing the cake as well - a "perfect" product. The problem is, when it does work, it is spectacular, and when it isn't working, you really do notice it. It is like flying a 2nd gen flight simulator again. Are there any other test I can carry out for you, the only other difference between the two screen shots is that ASV randomly set up different sky types. Should I select one manually and compare like for like (although I am sure you have already explained that the sky textures make no difference to the horizon line). Thanks for all the help,Neil

This just keeps getting stranger.I reset the weather in FSUIPC and exited FS9.Opened up ASV (Vis settings still set at 20NM).Opened up Wx Configurator.changed weather to CAVOK, selected LQSA as station ID, pressed Apply (all the way I had previously done this) and got the following error message.http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/130372.jpgI tried several times to repeat this in different ways, even restarting computer, but always the same. I even just selected one of the preset weathers from the top left box, but still same error when I tried to apply it (without changing the Metar string)I then on the Wx Configurator page tried to fetch the weather from LQSA and got the following messagehttp://forums.avsim.net/user_files/130373.jpgafter pressing ok, ASV shut down. I think I understand the second error, as I have no weather for LQSA downloaded from server. As I can no longer set weather manually, I can not test 20NM range with CAVOK weather after having reset weather in FSUIPC.Sorry for making so much work for you,Neil

HI Neil,I did the test last night and here the screenshots, with 2 differents sky set.29 max visibility in asv option, sight distant completly to left in fs2004 display. http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/130389.jpghttp://forums.avsim.net/user_files/130390.jpgThanksChris WillisHiFi Simulation Software Team Developerhttp://www.hifisim.com/images/asv_dev_team.jpg http://www.hifisim.com/images/asv_proud_supporter.jpg

Thanks Chris,I wonder what I am doing wrong? In your screen shots you have a lovely blended horizon, in mine I have a very visable line. What graphics card are you running in your system?I find it imposible to understand. I set the max vis in ASV to 20nm, set the slider in FS9 fully to left and still get a clear hard horizon :-(I just wish I could solve this!!!!!!

HI Neil,-I have the latest fsuipc version FSUIPC 3.50 (free version)http://www.schiratti.com/dowson.html-When I start fs2004, the weather is completly clear, (Recommend to save a saved flight and make as default flight with clear weather.)-Dynamic weather slider in fs2004 (rate of change) is set to none.-Sight Distant slider in fs2004 display setting, completly to left-I set weather off in fsuipc.Go in ASVE WX configurator:Empty the METAR editable string and Write LQSA 000000Z cavok in the METAR editable string, and save the template. -Select the Cavok template-Click apply to location instead of specific stationrange-Click Apply Now (wait a little bit)-Click Update and CloseNow wait a little bit in fs2004 to generate the metar correctly.ThanksChris WillisHiFi Simulation Software Team Developerhttp://www.hifisim.com/images/asv_dev_team.jpg http://www.hifisim.com/images/asv_proud_supporter.jpg
