Horizon Haze Problem.

Featured Replies

Keep in mind that the "sharp" horizon is not always unrealistic. It is not always that the sky blends in with the horizon, obscuring the transition. Look on airliners.net or other photos out of airplane windows in cruise, many times you will see a very distinct line that forms the horizon.Ruahrc

I just added the TableFog line into the Display.cfg for the Radeon (I have a ATi Radeon X850) and bingo it did the trick.I added it in twice (as per instructions elsewhere on Avsim). You can't believe the difference it has made. Nice smooth horizons, and gradual visibility changes (which were also missing until I made the change).I take it that this does not work with Nvidia chip sets? One thing to mention. Before changing the cfg file, I was getting a hard line even below 10,000 ft.Thanks to whoever menioned this fix.Neil

No probs Neil. It is a #### shame it doesn't do the same trick with the NVIDIA cards :-(Well me new MoBO arrived today, should have a new chip this afternoon so this pupy's gonna get the treatment. I have never seen this problem before on my system and I'll be steamin if it's still there after the upgrade and a format c: ..Only time will tell.!

>No probs Neil. It is a #### shame it doesn't do the same>trick with the NVIDIA cards :-(Try to add TableFog=0, instead than in display.cfg, rather in fs9.cfg, under the [[DISPLAY.Device]] section. It should look something like that:[[DISPLAY.Device.RADEON 9800 PRO.0]]Mode=1280x960x32MipBias=4TriLinear=1TableFog=0Marco

I have max vis set to 59 (min 0). In FS9 I have 60NM and cloud 60NM set.In the options I have everything ticked apart from Disable Visibility Graduation.I also tried "disable random Haze select" and set haze to thick in Active Environment.I am at a total loss, and very upset, as when it does work it looks brilliant (highly realistic), but when it doesn't, it feels like flying ATP or FS4 again. All I am after is a nice band of haze blurring the horizon where the Ground meets the sky :-(I have seen this happen on several occasions, but it seems to be random. The last time I had it perfect was after adding the TableFog line to the Display.cfg running build 364. The next day I installed 367 and it was back to the bad old days, although this is probably just coincidence. Please, Please, Please help, as this is really detracting from such a brilliant piece of software.

Tell you what gets me with this problem Jim.. I never have an issue with this white curtain until I climb above the last layer of cloud, then this Line Immediately appears. It's almost as if there's a texture missing and FS just draws nothing instead.Strange that I have never seen this before till very recently. I purchased FS2K4 on the day of release and it's only the last month I have had this trouble. Normally even at FL480 where you would expect to see a reasonably sharp horizon, there is usually enough fogging just to blend the ground into the sky seamlessly.Really appreciate you efforts with this Jim, ASV with the 512 texture set is now just so realistic it's almost frightening, shame FS has to make a mess of the horizon for what ever reason.

Nigel,There is a set of textures in the library called 'soft horizons' (softhr.zip) by John Cillis which blend sky/land better, but ASVE sky textures look better imho and of course have great variety, so I'll wait :)If you absolutely cannot stand the line give them a try.regards,Markhttp://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a319/markrey/lds1.jpgXPHomeSP2/FS9.1/3.2HT/1GIG/X700pro256

Hi All,There is confusion here I think, You are talking about the line from the ground to the sky hard horizon line separation?, there is no way to blur the ground and the horizon with sky set, no matter what's sky set your are using. This blended "blur" horizon should be done via ASVe with visibility and fs2004 sight distant draw.ThanksChris WillisHiFi Simulation Software Team Developerhttp://www.hifisim.com/images/asv_dev_team.jpg http://www.hifisim.com/images/asv_proud_supporter.jpg

Hi Mark,The black line from the ground and the horizon are not related to the sky set, the visibility should be reduced to blend with the horizon.ThanksChris WillisHiFi Simulation Software Team Developerhttp://www.hifisim.com/images/asv_dev_team.jpg http://www.hifisim.com/images/asv_proud_supporter.jpg

Hi Chris,You are the expert for sure, :) I have no knowledge of fs9 texture sets and such, but this is how John describes the textures 'This is a sky texture package which smooths the transition between sky and ground for Flight Simulator 9, made from the original default sky environment bitmaps.'I did try them and did notice a difference - go figure???regards,Markhttp://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a319/markrey/lds1.jpgXPHomeSP2/FS9.1/3.2HT/1GIG/X700pro256

Hi Mark,The sky transition are only for the sky horizon to the upper, not the terrain ground line horizon, it will not remove the line from the terrain ground horizon. If you see in the 2 pic, the first one blend with the ground and the second one, there is the line, the visibility is removed, these are not related to the sky set. There is a smoothers horizon as well in asv for day sky but these are not related to the main issue.
