Sorry, In my haste to finish the longest post I've ever writen in the AVSIM forums, I forgot to mention how to ativate the AS Radar Connector. This is actually very very easy now that we have the permanent mapped shares setup. On the WideServer PC, again start MS Windows Explorer, navigate to Z:Program FilesActiveSkyModulesASV6 and double-click on the ActiveRadarConnector.exe file. Press the "Next" button a few times until it prompts you for the location of the ASv6 executable. Guess what, becuase of the way we navigated and started this utility, the required ASv6.exe file is right there in the same window ready for us to select. Left-click the ASv6.exe file and press the "Open" button. Press the Next button again until the installation is verified and finished. The ActiveRadar.dll and subdirectory have now been copied to your FS9Modules folder ready to operate. That's it, enjoy....AL | KCHS - Charleston AFB/Intl | USAF 437AW (~53 C-17's)FS9/Game Rig:AMD64-4000+ SanDiego OC=210/420/2520 | Asus A8N-SLI Deluxe | Corsair TwinX2048-3200C2PT (2x1GB) 2.5-3-3-8/[email protected] | Evga NV 7900GT v84.56 (1280x1024x32/4xAA/16xAF/High-Quality) | Enermax 550W PSU | Thermalright XP-120(mm) HSF | NV 1GB LAN | NV SATA-I Raid-0 223GB (3x80GB Samsung) (WinXPx64/Games) | NV SATA-II WD 320GB (Backups) | IDE-0 80GB Samsung (Archive) | Realtek AC'97 5.1 Surround | CH Yoke, TQ, & Pedals | FS9.1 (Settings max'd/60-40Vis/No-Shadows/20FPS) | WideFS v6.16 | FSUIPC v3.617 | FSGenesis Mesh (All) | PMDG (All) | PAI (All) | FSBuild2 | EtcFS9 Support Rig:AMD3200+ | Gigabyte GA-7NNXP | Leadtek NV 5900 | Corsair TwinX1024-3200 (2x512MB) | Intel 1GB LAN | SiI3112 SATA-I 80GB Samsung | IDE-0 80GB IBM | JustCom 4port KVM | FS Wide Client | ActiveSky v6 (512x512x32bit / Wx Influanced)| Radar Contact v4.01 | FS Real Time | FS Flight Keeper | FS Commander | AI Smooth

Cool, Roger. I'm glad you saw the post in time. I was actually replying to your previous "WideFS" post which is what started this thread/essay. While I was reponding, I realized just how long the reply was so I decided it deserved its own post. If you or anyone else realy find this info beneficial, let Jim or Damien know and perhaps they'll sticky it near the top for a while.regards...AL | KCHS - Charleston AFB/Intl | USAF 437AW (~53 C-17's)FS9/Game Rig:AMD64-4000+ SanDiego OC=210/420/2520 | Asus A8N-SLI Deluxe | Corsair TwinX2048-3200C2PT (2x1GB) 2.5-3-3-8/[email protected] | Evga NV 7900GT v84.56 (1280x1024x32/4xAA/16xAF/High-Quality) | Enermax 550W PSU | Thermalright XP-120(mm) HSF | NV 1GB LAN | NV SATA-I Raid-0 223GB (3x80GB Samsung) (WinXPx64/Games) | NV SATA-II WD 320GB (Backups) | IDE-0 80GB Samsung (Archive) | Realtek AC'97 5.1 Surround | CH Yoke, TQ, & Pedals | FS9.1 (Settings max'd/60-40Vis/No-Shadows/20FPS) | WideFS v6.16 | FSUIPC v3.617 | FSGenesis Mesh (All) | PMDG (All) | PAI (All) | FSBuild2 | EtcFS9 Support Rig:AMD3200+ | Gigabyte GA-7NNXP | Leadtek NV 5900 | Corsair TwinX1024-3200 (2x512MB) | Intel 1GB LAN | SiI3112 SATA-I 80GB Samsung | IDE-0 80GB IBM | JustCom 4port KVM | FS Wide Client | ActiveSky v6 (512x512x32bit / Wx Influanced)| Radar Contact v4.01 | FS Real Time | FS Flight Keeper | FS Commander | AI Smooth

>FS Realtime (WideClient): Start normally, updates time using>WideFS.I cannot find FS Realtime on AVSIM. I assume this is a stand alone .com file? Thank you for your efforts!Ron_CYEGhttp://www.precisionmanuals.com/images/forum/pmdg_pf.jpg

>FS Realtime (WideClient): Start normally, updates time using>WideFS.Thank you for all the effort in putting these tips together. I remember back some years ago how great the WideFS utilities were to cut down CPU time on those older boxes. And how much trouble it could be to get pathed properly and remember ALL the steps needed to get it configured correctly with other add-ons. ;DCan you tell me a bit about FS Realtime and whether you would recommend it in lieu of FS-X just around the corner? I'm also curious about the FSCommander util.Thank you,Ron_CYEGhttp://www.precisionmanuals.com/images/forum/pmdg_pf.jpg

You're very welcome for the essay. The simple word, "Thanks" has a lot of value to me and makes it worth-while.As long as FSUIPC is around, WideFS will probably be available to offload every CPU-Cycle/thread from the FS gaming PC as possible. Even with today's hardware, by moving these add-ons to a separate PC, should always be benefical. To what degree; that's different for every sytem. FS Real time is by Joshua Roberts/3D Softworks and available on the AVSIM downloads. It used to be freeware, but is more or less "donation-ware" now. I think it's $5 bucks but it's routinely updated. Basically it includes the worlds correct timezones which MS seems to refuse to correct for the past three or four versions of FS. It also has a GUI that allows you to sync and personalize how you want the UTC and local-time corrected, how often, startup options, etc... Because of the time-zone files, it has to be installed on the FS9 PC to get recorded like add-on scenery. But, I install it again on the WideClient PC and run the GUI from there. It then communciates with FS over the WideFS pipe. Personnaly, I'm betting the MS might improve the time-zone issues but that they won't be as good as FS Realtime's endevours. Send the developer an e-mail to find out what his ententions are in relation to FSX. In fact, when you get an answer, post it back here to let us know what Josh intends. As for FS Commander, it's another Planner with a very descent tracking and map display. Personally, I still build my plans using FSBuild2, but I like the maps on FSCommander. FSC's maps remind me of the old FSNav moving maps but better. It is also updated monthly with DAFIF nav-data and comes with a utility to scan your AFCADS on the FS9 PC. Scanning your AFCADS allows you to zoom the map in close-enouth to see all the parking spaces at each airpot, including mouse-over information of this and almost anything on the map. I think AVSIM may have done a product-review recently on this utility as well.AL | KCHS - Charleston AFB/Intl | USAF 437AW (~53 C-17's)FS9/Game Rig:AMD64-4000+ SanDiego OC=210/420/2520 | Asus A8N-SLI Deluxe | Corsair TwinX2048-3200C2PT (2x1GB) 2.5-3-3-8/[email protected] | Evga NV 7900GT v84.56 (1280x1024x32/4xAA/16xAF/High-Quality) | Enermax 550W PSU | Thermalright XP-120(mm) HSF | NV 1GB LAN | NV SATA-I Raid-0 223GB (3x80GB Samsung) (WinXPx64/Games) | NV SATA-II WD 320GB (Backups) | IDE-0 80GB Samsung (Archive) | Realtek AC'97 5.1 Surround | CH Yoke, TQ, & Pedals | FS9.1 (Settings max'd/60-40Vis/No-Shadows/20FPS) | WideFS v6.16 | FSUIPC v3.617 | FSGenesis Mesh (All) | PMDG (All) | PAI (All) | FSBuild2 | EtcFS9 Support Rig:AMD3200+ | Gigabyte GA-7NNXP | Leadtek NV 5900 | Corsair TwinX1024-3200 (2x512MB) | Intel 1GB LAN | SiI3112 SATA-I 80GB Samsung | IDE-0 80GB IBM | JustCom 4port KVM | FS Wide Client | ActiveSky v6 (512x512x32bit / Wx Influanced)| Radar Contact v4.01 | FS Real Time | FS Flight Keeper | FS Commander | AI Smooth

Too much known PayPal Spyware out there, and with their new deal involving Yahoo. Absolutely no thanks. I will try to contact them though and get back to the group. >As for FS Commander, it's another Planner with a very descent>tracking and map display. Heck, I'd just be happy if he rebuilt the darn GUI, LOL... Actually, It does work fairly well. You could even put FSBUILD2 on the WideCleint PC if desired. In our case above, in the options tab for FSBUID2, you would declare that FS is located at Z:MS Flight Simulator. It should build the rest of its options's paths based off that information, such as the FMC dirctory for Flgith1 or PMDG directory. I already have specifc aircraft data for FSBUild2 for the PMDG 73X and 744. Look in the FSBuild2 forums for links to people who build and update the aircraft files for this planner.AL | KCHS - Charleston AFB/Intl | USAF 437AW (~53 C-17's)FS9/Game Rig:AMD64-4000+ SanDiego OC=210/420/2520 | Asus A8N-SLI Deluxe | Corsair TwinX2048-3200C2PT (2x1GB) 2.5-3-3-8/[email protected] | Evga NV 7900GT v84.56 (1280x1024x32/4xAA/16xAF/High-Quality) | Enermax 550W PSU | Thermalright XP-120(mm) HSF | NV 1GB LAN | NV SATA-I Raid-0 223GB (3x80GB Samsung) (WinXPx64/Games) | NV SATA-II WD 320GB (Backups) | IDE-0 80GB Samsung (Archive) | Realtek AC'97 5.1 Surround | CH Yoke, TQ, & Pedals | FS9.1 (Settings max'd/60-40Vis/No-Shadows/20FPS) | WideFS v6.16 | FSUIPC v3.617 | FSGenesis Mesh (All) | PMDG (All) | PAI (All) | FSBuild2 | EtcFS9 Support Rig:AMD3200+ | Gigabyte GA-7NNXP | Leadtek NV 5900 | Corsair TwinX1024-3200 (2x512MB) | Intel 1GB LAN | SiI3112 SATA-I 80GB Samsung | IDE-0 80GB IBM | JustCom 4port KVM | FS Wide Client | ActiveSky v6 (512x512x32bit / Wx Influanced)| Radar Contact v4.01 | FS Real Time | FS Flight Keeper | FS Commander | AI Smooth

I have FSBUILD22 on the client PC as well, with FSBUILD pathed to ActiveSky but the WX comes directly from AV6. I'm not getting upper winds from FSbuild to come accross although the setup appears normal on my WS_Client. But who knows?P.S. - I did register FS Realtime, and d/l'd v.180 from the source site.Ron_CYEGhttp://www.precisionmanuals.com/images/forum/pmdg_pf.jpg

I have a question to anyone, posted in the final paragraph, below...Re: the guide. Thank you for writing this. I do have an older ex-FS rig 2nd PC (a P4 1.8 ghz, 512 ram) and I *may* consider moving AS6 over to it at some point.Your guide will enable me to think a lot less. I have to think enough at work and when I get home, I need no-brain FS activities sometimes :)All I would run is AS6...that I can think of...I do have a few add-on .DLL's such as FSSound.dll but I am not sure that such things can be loaded from a remote PC. What about AI aircraft programs, such as ProjectAI or WorldofAI? Can those programs benefit from a WideFS-type installation? Is that even possible?Rhett

Hi Mace,.dlls must be in the Modules folder so no help there. The AI traffic programs you listed are installation packages and do not run when FS04 is running anyway. You need to think about what other 3rd party programs besides ASv6 that you run while FS04 is running!Hope this helps,Jimhttp://www.hifisim.com/Active Sky V6 Development Team Active Sky V6 Proud SupporterHiFi Beta TeamRadar Contact Supporter: http://www.jdtllc.com/AirSource Member: http://www.air-source.us/FSEconomy Member:http://dot.kelder.net:8080/fseconomy/

None of those programs do much the way I run them.I guess I don't run as much extra things as some people. But I can't imagine what they do run! Some sort of ATC add-ons? Moving maps? I really like the way my sim is right now, and can't even conceive of what the need would be to run WideFS, if you don't run moving map displays, etc.Rhett
