Recommended Posts

Hello all,A few isolated configuration problems have been discovered in the original 6.5 release and we believe we have solved them. Also added multiple .ini support. This is a BETA build and should be used at your own risk:http://sales.hifisim.com/pub-download/ASv65_Update_B536.zipFrom the revision log:ASv6.5 B536

BTW, the alternate .ini file implementaiton is to help solve this thread here (possibley others as well):"Another way to use ASv6.5 with both FS9 & FSX"http://forums.avsim.net/dcboard.php?az=sho..._id=29937&page=Damian or Jim,If you think it would help some folks, I will write-up a mini How-TO tonight regarding the implementation of the alternate .ini file and post it in a seperate thread. One .ini file for FSX and one for FS9 in a WidFS enviornment. A short step-by-step example?

Two .ini files working here with B536. Original for FSX and an alternate, ASv6_FS9.ini, for FS9.

Hifisim:While you are working on an update to 6.5, something to consider:If a user has FS9 and FSX installed, the installer (ASV, ASv6, ASv6.5) installs the Active Sky executable inside FS9. In fact, the instructions always talk about FS9. Unless I am missing something obvious, when your users (sometime in the future) decide to remove/delete the FS9 directory and just use FSX, they will lose access to the Active Sky executable which is still registered as being inside FS9. It does not help to copy the Active Sky folders out of the FS9Modules folder before you delete because the registry still points to the Active Sky executable in the FS9Modules folder. I am not sure Windows will let you Remove Active Sky once you have deleted the files....this could be a significant problem. If this is true, everyone should be installing ASv6 into a directory separate from FS9...which can be done if you overide the default of the installer. It still puts the files in a "Modules" folder but the folder is now separate from FS9.Another thread was just opened by someone who is experiencing this very issue now...http://forums.avsim.net/dcboard.php?az=sho..._id=30250&page=Don't you think its time to have Active Sky install as a separate folder from the Flight Sim applications as part of the default installation...and also make sure your users know about the potential problem....?Again, I may be completely wrong...if so let me know what I missed.Thanks.Stiletto2

Hi,Thanks for the information and the suggestions. Right now most users are updating a previous installation and many are still leaving FS04 on their systems. Yes, as time moves forward this may change and some re-installs will be needed. Part of the uninstall of FS04 should be the add-ons that are in FS04.A fresh install using ASv6.5 may point to a unique folder. Thanks again,Jimhttp://www.hifisim.com/Active Sky V6 Development Team Active Sky V6 Proud SupporterHiFi Beta TeamRadar Contact Supporter: http://www.jdtllc.com/AirSource Member: http://www.air-source.us/FSEconomy Member:http://www.fseconomy.com/

Hi,exactly how do I setup ASV6.5 to run with FS9 and FS10?I only see the cfg file in the FS9 moduelsl directory, does FS10 use this one, too? FS10 also gets weather updates at the specified time interval? Are there entries to be made in the cfg file to make AS work for both versions of FS?thanks, patAMD A64 4000+ @ 2.6GHz, Zalman7700Cu cooler, Corsair XMS 1GB DDR, LTK6800GT-OC, Asus A8V MoBo, WDRaptorHDD, TrackIR4, CH FSYoke+TQ+peds, Eclipse RED KB, XP-hsp2

Hi Pat,We will document this for public release, but what you need to do is create a second .ini and point a second icon to this .ini by using a second shortcut and modifying the target of the icon. You add the name of the ini after the .exe like this: E:FS2004ModulesASv6ASv6.exe FSX.iniNow you have 2 different icons one for FS04 and one for FSX and you click on the one you wish to start. I know that is not the clearest explanation!Jimhttp://www.hifisim.com/Active Sky V6 Development Team Active Sky V6 Proud SupporterHiFi Beta TeamRadar Contact Supporter: http://www.jdtllc.com/AirSource Member: http://www.air-source.us/FSEconomy Member:http://www.fseconomy.com/

Hi,To clarify, this only applies if you want separate configurations for each sim. Under normal usage with same settings you will not need to have multiple configuration files. FSUIPC will handle connecting to either sim and configuration is thus automatic.Best,

Thanks for the replies.adding FSX.ini after the .exe in the target entry didn't work (not accepting it).Regardless, I created a batch file that invokes ASV6.exe with the FSX.ini option and it works fine.I wanted 2 separate profiles so that I can disable the ASG and enable the haze layer for the FSX profile, while keeping the FS9 settings the same.PatAMD A64 4000+ @ 2.6GHz, Zalman7700Cu cooler, Corsair XMS 1GB DDR, LTK6800GT-OC, Asus A8V MoBo, WDRaptorHDD, TrackIR4, CH FSYoke+TQ+peds, Eclipse RED KB, XP-hsp2
