Anyone here got an ATI X800 XT or Nvidia 6800 Ultra?

Hi,Sounds good Paulo! I just rolled back to Catalyst 4.2's as I have had trouble with any version above that.Concerning the filtering (AF), you might want to have a look at my conversation with Bigshot here...http://forums.avsim.net/dcboard.php?az=sho...e=&topic_page=2As far as I can tell, if you select any filtering in the sim it overrides whatever you set in your 3D display settings. In case you are curious, here's a more detailed summary of my settings and experience...-----------------------------------------------------------------My settings are 1600x1200 resolution, 4X AA(in-game AA unchecked), and in-the-sim Trilinear Filtering checked. I use MyTraffic 2004 with AI Traffic slider at 100%. Everything else in the sim is turned on and up all the way, sliders full right except the following...Terrain Complexity(Mesh): 85%Autogen: Very Dense (I'm also using a file in the Avsim library named: fs9xml.zip)Water effects: LowNot all my Weather sliders are full right...Sight distance: 100 mi.Cloud draw distance: 60 mi.(The following are turned on and up all the way. I use Chris Willis 32-bit clouds FPS fix v2)3-D cloud percentage: 100Detailed Clouds checked.Cloud coverage density: Maximum(100%)My average FPS is usually 23.6. I have it locked at 24. If I lock it a little higher I get some more FPS but then the FPS jumps around more. I do not get an average of 23.6 FPS when I am around large cities with complex airports(dense scenery), but it is still not too bad even in those areas, certainly flyable for me. Simflyers airports and even FlyTampa's Miami(KMIA) are another story. With these settings a lot of clouds will also bring down my performace somewhat. A ton of them will bring it down considerably.-----------------------------------------------------------------Cheers,JimSystem Specs:Intel 3.4C(C = Northwood) on Asus P4C800-E Deluxe, 1 GB Muskin '222' Special PC3200 RAM, NEC MultiSync FE2111SB 22" Monitor, ATI Radeon 9700 Pro Videocard with v4.2 Catalyst Drivers, DirectX 9.0b, Creative Audigy2 Soundcard, 250 GB w/8 MB Cache Western Digital HDD, WinXP Pro SP1

Hi Paulo,Take for example the POSKY 757 AA Retro.. if you zoom out, the lines on the paint appear jagged.. I am led to believe this is because the ATI cards cannot AA the textures with alpha channels on them (Hope this makes sense..)

Cheers,

John; non-mipped textures don't get alaised. Just convert the Posky aircraft to DXT3 with mips and they look great. Nothing to do with alpha channels on airplanes. If you end up with a blurred tail texture or blurred left wing on the Posky's as a result, leave them as DXT3 and just drop the mips on that particular texture. I've done that on all my aircraft. They all look much better with the mips in DXT3 and the performance is way better. The only alpha channel textures that I occasionally notice in FS9 are the trees, radio antennas and fences. I run a set of Gerrish's trees that look good and have little movement in them. The overall image quality is excellent.

There was a report of a guy in a German forum who has a X800 card already and he seems to be also extremely pleased with this new hardware.Without going into details he speaks about 70% performance increase over a 9800-card and excellent image quality (I think he has a Pentium4-system, 3.20Ghz, HT, with 1 Gb Ram).He tested also with the sliders to the right and lots of clouds and the frames were still very good. I guess with tons of AI-traffic and demanding add-on sceneries the FPS can still be brouhgt down in FS9.Walter

Yes it sure can. FS 2004 won

I got my X800 XT yesterday, and I'm still playing with different settings. I CAN tell you however, that frame rates are almost twice the rates I was getting with my GeForce 5900. I can actually fly a real decent IFR approach now with clouds maxed out, AutoGen full,AI full, and assorted scenery such as USA roads loaded. I'm VERY Happy with this card!!!!

Give him time for gods sake he only got it today. Let he have some fun with it :D

Anyone had a look at BFG6800 GT OC? This sounds like serious bang for buck. Anyone know how it LOOKS in FS9? As for perf, it is outshining the venerable X800XT . . . or close to it, and for many $$ less.Noel
