dual monitors and the VC??

Featured Replies

This is not a hardware question, but more along the lines of general FS use.I have a nice extra monitor that I was considering utilizing, but I dont understand exactly how you folks use these AND the FS9 VC? Are you placing the main panel on one and full view on the other? breaking up the panel views? ect...How are you using yours? again, I have no problems with hookup, just wondering why.

CPU: Core i5-6600K 4 core (3.5GHz) - overclock to 4.3 | RAM: (1066 MHz) 16GB
MOBO: ASUS Z170 Pro |  GeForce GTX 1070 8GB | MONITOR: 2560 X 1440 2K

I spread the VC across two montors in full screen. The view and clarity is so much better. The third monitor can present 2d items like the MCDU or ASV if required.

The third monitor can present>2d items like the MCDU or ASV if required.I had tried this method before with two monitors but the problem was that the view spans both monitors equally and the split between the monitors falls right in the middle of the view, thus blocking the view of the runway. I tried moving the view around a bit but could not get a satisfactory result. So, I ended up doing a front view on the middle monitor and a 45 degree view to the left on the left monitor. I got a third monitor and did a 45 degree view to the right on that one using WideView so I now have a wraparound view. Would be nice if I could achieve the same effect with the virtual cockpit view but so far have been unable to.

Mike, I typically will use the middle (main) screen for the VC, and use the left screen for FSNav and/or some of the popup panels (undocked).I have two other monitors on a separate computer that I can either use WideFS, WidevieW or MaxiVista to display other popups, Nav3.1(beta), FSMeteo, AI Smooth, etc. on.I also can use my laptop's screen via MaxiVista as a "fifth monitor" should I wish to run Nav 3.1(beta) or FS Moving Map on that screen.

thank for the responses all.may I ask one more?can it be set up in a way to an upper and lower configuration with a 2d panel on the lower and front view (no panel) on the top but also when you select frontright view BOTH change? (i.e. 2d frontright and nopanel on upper also to frontright)

I was going to use MaxiVista, but read that it didn't support hardware acceleration. Does this present a problem? If it does, does that mean it won't be good for using MaxiVista as a second monitor for displaying overheads and other FS9 popup windows?Any info would be greatly appreciated.

If the video card in your "remote computer" has hardware acceleration, it will be used.MaxiVista does not present any problems with anything I've asked it to do... ;)

bummer... this really should not have been moved.I was very careful NOT to make this a hardware issue. It is strictly the software function of the FS9 program.now I'll never get an answer.too bad.

I understand from Ron you are the MaxiVista guru.I tried the MaxiVista demo and I had a performance hit. I lost almost 10 FPS because of it. I don't know if the full paid version has this issue or not.Do you see any performance issue with MaxVista? I really want that for a third monitor. I want the PFD and the MFD of the Aerosfot Avidyine on its own monitor and the outside view on the third.Thanks.Manny

Bill, or anyone else who uses MaxiVista: is it possible to configure FS2004 so that it doesn't pause when it loses focus to a window in the second monitor? What I want to do is to use a second monitor to display FSNavigator as well as some PDF copies of POHs and checklists. I am using MaxiVista to use my laptop as a second monitor and this works fine. However, whenever I click on the FSNavigator window or try to scroll one of the PDFs, FS2004 loses focus and is paused. Is there any way around this? Thanks for any suggestions.

Bill,Correction to my previous post (I can't edit it anymore).I mean Eaglsoft Avidyne Cirrus not ....Aerosfot Avidyine . there is no such thing as Aerosoft Avidyne.Manny

Hi, Mike.I agree, this message should not have been moved. I see many personal messages that have nothing to do with MSFS allowed, and others moved. There is a code of acceptance based on personal feeling, we are not totally objective, still humans I guess. As far as VC and two views, undocking your views, it

thanks for your thoughts, I understand that the VC full screen mode is not really plausible (thank you)But, I guess what I envision is this:two CRT monitors, stacked vertically.the bottom one has the main panel (and associate popups)the upper one has the exterior (out the windshield) viewthen...when you select, lets say 'forward right' (9 key on pad) will BOTH the monitors respond accordinginly. I am trying to avoid the idea of viewing the scenery out the left window while the main panel is still displayed in the lower monitor (should be the left cockpit bitmap)I dont think it would be worth the deskspace if I can only display panel popups or FS GPS, ect. Optimally would be 'expanding' the cockpit and outside views via two 19" CRT's

sorry about the confusion... it is a hard one to describe.first off I only have two monitors and one computer, period.so lets say it this way, do you remember when you had only one monitor connected to one computer? well, when you selected had the main panel up, the front view was out the window.now, when you selected 'rightfront' view, the 2d bitmap would change AND the view out the window would change (assume the plane has all the bitmaps). It is like you were actuall sitting in the plane.OK?now lets say I have both monitors connected to one PC. The monitors are stacked vertically. On the bottom one I show the main panel (somehow eliminating the 'out the windshield' view - dragging?). On the top one I have just the outside view 'frontview'.what happens then if I select 'frontright' view via the 9 on the keypad? do both monitors change or just the focused window?
