ALL ATI USERS NEED TO READ THIS...

Pardon me for shouting, but this is just too good to miss, and almost too good to be true. Chuck posted this here last night (with no responses :-( ) and it's a must see for all ATI users because the autogen shimmering has finally been eliminated. Check this link for Chuck's post and a link to the original Hardware forum post http://forums.avsim.net/dcboard.php?az=sho...d=274298&page=2 . This fix really does work. The difference here is just amazing. It's the simplest fix there could be (just drop a couple of very small files into the FS9 root folder) and there is no downside risk to trying it. (Mods - Please leave this here for at least a day or two. This problem has been an issue forever and the resolution needs a wider view that the Hardware forum provides - Thanks)DougEdited because I can't spel

Thanks for the link! I've seen the other post yesterday, and on a ATI 9600PRO of mine, it makes no difference at all.Hope this helps!

Yea, I dropped it into my system with my ATI 9800 Pro. Couldn't see any difference... good or bad? Maybe it's a hit&miss sorta thing?

No difference for me too. Screenshots compared, airport fence looks the same, though trees in the distance appear to be smoother...

Going to try this later today. The difference will be subtle, obviously, since setting the Mipmap slider to 4 in FS9 already eliminates most of the shimmering (which only affects trees in the first place), especially at high resolutions. It should also be faster than NVidia's brute-force Super/Multi sampling hybrid modes.

Please folks! Do try this, but if it doesn't work for you, it would be a nice gesture if you don't tell us. The reason why I say this is that I almost skipped trying because of the negative post, but reconsidered, and YESS!!!, the sim is a whole new experience after this totally effordless operation. So even if it does nothing for you, please don't drown the message in negative post, just lift out the files and be happy!

yeah it works for me, but... i can see maybe just a weee bit if i look real hard, but i have to stare at one point to see it and then just barely but just flying along, it has deff. helped mewe should maybe put our specs downamd athlon64 fx 55 w/ht tech.sckt939 asus asn-e nforce4 chipset sata133 raid pci-e mobo2gigs onboard mem, pc3200 400mhz dual channel ddr memory (corsair xms high performance mem)vid card: ati radion x850 xt platinum edition 256mb 16x pci expressciao!Brian S

I have a 9800 Pro and this little util most definitely works. Before this little program I would have a lot of shimmer so I would basically reduce mipmap to 5. Now I have mipmap back up to max again and although it did not eliminate the shimmering 100% completely I will say that it's a huge difference. When I had mipmap maxed out before there would be a lot of shimmer. I mean it almost seemed like the entire screen was shimmering. With this little program I can now set mipmap to max and the only shimmering I get is a small amount towards the horizon. Something I can easily live with. I would definitely recommend trying this program.
