hi everyone,i`m thinking about buying a new system with following configuration:-athlon 64x2 dual core 3800+-1024 mb ddr ram 3200/400-msi nvidia 7800gt-250 mb hdd/ 7200 rmpi would like to have a system on wich i can run fs9 with high details, aircrafts like the pmdg 747 (virtual cockpit view), with scenery like frankfurt mega airport or schipol, weather (clouds) and custom traffic. if someone has a similar system or can tell me if my desired system above is good enough to run without stutters and with good framerates about 20-25, i would be very happy. hope someone can help me with this decision.thx and regardsphil

Yep, if you don't need a dual core CPU for other programs, get a single core, preferrably the FX-57. I'm running a X2 4800+ and it does great, but nothing better than a single core.Keep in mind, if you plan to get FSX and take advantage of DX10, you will need to upgrade, so you might want to wait.Regards, MichaelKDFWhttp://www.calvirair.com/mcpics/mcdcvabanner.jpgCalVirAir International

If you're going to do that, probably consider waiting for socket AM2 and DDR2 memory, depending on the price difference.scott s..

Phil,It's a good system. A lot depends on your budget and if you are buying or building.I just purshased an AMD system and am very happy with it.If you would like to contact me I'll be happy to send you the siteI purchased [email protected]

You can go with a single-core 3700+ for $100 cheaper than a single-core 4000+, and 200 mhz is NOT worth $100 in real-world performance. A single core 4000+ is the same price as the dual-core 3800+, and the 4000+ will outperform the 3800+ in FS.Dual-core is going to get much better in a year or two both in terms of application usage as well as the architecture of the chips themselves. The system I just built for myself is a 3700+ (San Diego core), 2 gigs of Corsair ram, eVGA 7800GT, and 250 gig WD hd. Nothing stops it in FS that I've seen yet. I don't have the PMDG 747 so I can't comment on that. I do use ASV6 and it handles it fine. This rig should keep me going fine until the dual-core situation settles out.Rhett

Keep the dual core, and OC it up a bit. VERY easy to do.

Third option is get an Opteron. You still get dual core but at much lower cost :). Make sure you get a mainboard that likes it though. DFI and Asus is good bets on those... Are others of course.Games will be developed to utilize dual cores since well all consoles for example uses several cores. Both AMD and Intel is developing these. So it

The dual core thing is actually becoming more of an issue now due to optimization in the video drivers. While your application might not support dual cores, your video driver does! Latest ATI 6.2 driver gave me a +400 in PCMark05Ray

Yes, but what about in actual FS 2004 performance? Not much, if anything I expect. Dual core is yet to make it's FS hey day.Gary

Dear Phil,Good morning.Your HDD is only 250MB?? Get 40-80GB MSFS2004 alone is already 3,200MB something plus add-on aircrafts & sceneries. Try to get a high VGA card and add your RAM to 2048MB, I was a victim of my own already.VGA Card with 512MB-3D makes a lot of difference.

heh. I think it's safe to assume that he means 250 *gigs* and not 250 mb.:)The last time I bought a 250 meg hd was in about 1996. Rhett
