October 3, 200619 yr <<>>Addon programs that use SimConnect do not run inside the FSX process. So they can take advantage of additional cores. Of course the O/S generally decides which core will be used at any given time.<<>>This was mentioned in the SimConnect presentation at the AVSIM convention. ACES said they were able to link 4 or 5 copies of FSX slaved to one master using SimConnect (in house experiment).
October 6, 200619 yr Gary,Yes, the other games show each core running at over 50% utilization but not close to 100% because they are using both cores effectively and don't need that much CPU power.FSX on the other hand DOES need A LOT of CPU power and has maxed out the first core at 100%.I highly doubt the second core usage by FSX is "overspill" ... but on the other hand only OS related task usage (the OS is smart enough to use the second core for these tasks).Since I don't believe there is overspill, I think there is a CPU cap occurring which only leads to reduced performance/framerate.
October 6, 200619 yr I'm not sure I understand what you are saying. I don't really care which CPU core does what, but in all the games you mention, including FSX, nothing uses over 60% of available CPU power. The other applications you mention are not utilising dual core more from this perspective than FSX. If something were to be truly dual core optimised, it would use closer to 100% of available CPU power. As previously stated, I believe you are confusing core balancing with maximal use of both cores.Gary 9800X3D | 4090 | 64GB | 2+1TB NVME | 2TB SSD | 2TB HDD | 85/50/43” TVs | Quest 3 | DOF H3 Motion Rig | Buttkicker | T.16000M Flight Kit MSFS @ 4K Ultra DLSS Performance FG 80 FPS | VR VDXR Godlike 80Hz SSW | MSFS VR DLSS Quality, Ultra Preset - Windows 11 Acer Nitro 5 | i5-11400H | RTX 3060 6 GB | 32GB DDR4 | 15.6" FHD IPS 144Hz | 2 x 512 GB SSD | Windows 11
October 6, 200619 yr Gary,You confirmed that FSX doesn't seem to support dual core processors in a previous post ..."I saw the release version of FSX in action at the AVSIM conference. Windows Task Manager that I pulled up on two dual core systems they had there (Pentium D desktip and Core Duo notebook) showed some, but mostly neglible, use of the second core.I can therefore confirm that "no" has been seen.Gary"Hopefully you can understand what you are saying :-)
October 6, 200619 yr Now you are quoting me out of context. My answer "no" was to the fact that there isn't a good performance improvement to be seen with dual core in FSX, not that there is no dual support at all. Let's stick to the context of this line of discussion please. No game that you mention in this thread, including FSX, makes more use than 60% of available CPU power on dual core systems. Whilst the other games balance the load more evenly across the two cores, they don't make any better use of that untapped 40% of CPU power than FSX does. As such, true dual core performance utilisation remains a pipe dream for all game titles mentioned, not just FSX.If you are going to reply, please address my second paragraph of this post directly, otherwise I will find more constructive posts in which to participate.Gary 9800X3D | 4090 | 64GB | 2+1TB NVME | 2TB SSD | 2TB HDD | 85/50/43” TVs | Quest 3 | DOF H3 Motion Rig | Buttkicker | T.16000M Flight Kit MSFS @ 4K Ultra DLSS Performance FG 80 FPS | VR VDXR Godlike 80Hz SSW | MSFS VR DLSS Quality, Ultra Preset - Windows 11 Acer Nitro 5 | i5-11400H | RTX 3060 6 GB | 32GB DDR4 | 15.6" FHD IPS 144Hz | 2 x 512 GB SSD | Windows 11
October 6, 200619 yr "No game that you mention in this thread, including FSX, makes more use than 60% of available CPU power on dual core systems."True ... the only difference being that I don't think FSX is using the second core. The other games are. That's why I posted all those images of CPU use. I was trying to prove a point that dual core performance utilisation IS NOT a pipe dream. If FSX DID use the second core, then I believe it would use a lot more than "60% of available CPU power".That's my final word on the subject ... I'm sure you still won't understand.

October 6, 200619 yr I don't understand either of you. But I did stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night.Actually, to me, (I am simple) when I see the 1st cpu at 100%, and the 2nd cpu at 26%, to me that signifies dual-core usage. 100% and 100% would be ideal for us FS'ers. haha. But anyway, I'll take my toys and go home now...RhettAMD 3700+, eVGA 7800GT 256, ASUS A8N-E, PC Power 510 SLI, 2 GB Corsair XMS 3-3-3-8, etc. etc. Rhett 7800X3D ♣ 96 GB G.Skill Flare ♣ Gigabyte 4090 ♣ Crucial P5 Plus 2TB
