January 7, 200719 yr Hey BuckI know you are running the 8800 GTX but I am hoping someone else might be running it and be able to help as well. I can not get FS9 to recognize the AA/AF settings I am setting in the Nvidia CP. I started by removing my 7900 GTX and 7800 GTX cards drivers. Then I rebooted to Safe Mode, ran driver cleaner,Ccleaner and registry mechanic.Rebooted back to normal and so far I have tried the 97.92, 97.44, 97.28 and no matter what I set in global settings and profile settings, FS seems to ignore it and does not apply any AA. I have also let FS rebuild its config to no avail. I am really hoping someone can help me as I have a second 8800 GTX on the way and I am not having any luck with my first...Thank in advance,-PaulPrimary RigLiquid CooledAMD FX-57 @ 3 gigsAsus A8NSLI-Premium2 gigs Corsair XMS PC3500LL 2 3 2 6 1TDual XFX 8800 GTX @ 2 gigs.24 inch Widescreen LCDDual 19 inch LCD'sRaid-0+1PCPower and Cooling 1k Quad SLIhttp://home.comcast.net/~psolk/3monitorsa.htmlBackup RigAMD 4000 San Diego @ 2.72 Gigs Kingston Corsair XMS CL2XFX 7900 GTXRaid-0 Have a Wonderful Day -Paul Solk
January 7, 200719 yr Have you set your Driver AA and AF to 18X (chaning application controlled to hardware controlled)? and the restart the FSim again.MAnny Manny Beta tester for SIMStarter
January 7, 200719 yr Author Hey Manny, Yep, set the profile and global settings to override the application and set both AA/AF to 16x/16x. Looks like I might be seeing some more luck with the 96.89 set than any of the 97.xx but still not seeing what I would like. Still playing with settings now,Thanks Manny,-Paul Have a Wonderful Day -Paul Solk
January 7, 200719 yr Paul.....How's it going Dude!! Havn't seen you in a while...Wanted to say hi...As to your issue...Hummm...Mine is lookin pretty good on the 97.28's from Guru3D's site...I havn't done allot of driver swapping lately...I know that not all drivers support the 8800's though...In fact there were only two 8800 drivers last time I checked(months ago)..I'm sure there are more now...My FS9 looks pretty Schweet...Using your old 7800 driver setting as a starting point...Then Tweeking from there on the new stuff...Have you tried turning AA on in the sim....And setting the drivers to "enhance the application setting"??Now that I'm sitting here thinking about it...I may have noticed this when I was setting mine up....Then all the sudden I got it...But I forget what the cure was...I'm thinkin it was the AA on in the sim & drivers to the "enhance" deal???I'm just a single card and monitor though...Not sure it that is a difference??I'm not messing with FSX right now...Good to see you!!
January 7, 200719 yr Author Hey Chuck,Long time no see!!!! Things have been crazy with rehab, family etc... How is everything with you???This is actually in FS9, not X, not a big fan of X right now... I seem to have it working at 16X/16X with the 96.89 drivers right now so fingers crossed it was just drivers. How do you like your system? I just put the single 8800 GTX into the FX rig, swapped the Power supply to the 1k Quad SLI and ordered the second 8800 GTX. I have your exact system saved in "my cart" in my newegg account right now and I keep going back and forth. Does that chip really "blow away" our trusty 3 gig FX? Is it worth the $$$? It has to be a pretty significant gain for me to go through a full rebuild. What do you think? I trust you!-Paul Have a Wonderful Day -Paul Solk
January 7, 200719 yr Sorry..I edited my post above..he he...I re-read FS9...My Bad...Good you got it working!!"I have your exact system saved in "my cart" in my newegg account right now and I keep going back and forth. Does that chip really "blow away" our trusty 3 gig FX? Is it worth the $$$?It has to be a pretty significant gain for me to go through a full rebuild. What do you think? I trust you!-Paul"My Opinion....I'd go Delete your cart...I'm flyin' the FX-57 Rig now more than ever...Now...I havn't been able to OC my C2D...It's down right now waiting on memory to be RMA'd...I can't honestly give you the 100% Full-On Scoop...Maybe it will really wake-up with a nice 3.4+OC?? They say they'll do that on liquid fairly easily?? But...Honestly it hasn't Really impressed me to date...I'm happier with my FX-57 at this point in time with FS9...Just My Opinions...Have Fun...
January 8, 200719 yr >>How do you like your system? I just put the single 8800 GTX>into the FX rig, swapped the Power supply to the 1k Quad SLI>and ordered the second 8800 GTX. Hm nice to see someone else here using a PC Power & Cooling p/s.And one thing about PC Power, when it specs at 1000 watts, you are really getting 1000 watts in real-world conditions. No spec'ing wattage at 60 deg F, like most other p/s makers do.I imagine that 1k Quad has enough juice on it.(!!) I wonder how loud it is compared to the 510 SLI. Probably about the same??RhettAMD 3700+ (@2310 mhz), eVGA 7800GT 256 (Guru3D 93.71), ASUS A8N-E, PC Power 510 SLI, 2 GB Corsair XMS 2.5-3-3-8 (1T), WD 250 gig 7200 rpm SATA2, CoolerMaster Praetorian case Rhett 7800X3D ♣ 96 GB G.Skill Flare ♣ Gigabyte 4090 ♣ Crucial P5 Plus 2TB
January 8, 200719 yr Let Me also include this tid bit of info...Right out of the box...My C2D scores 136,000 Aquamark3...14600 in 3Dmark05 and about 10000 in 3Dmark06...So I won't say it's not an impressive Rig...It's just tough to say it is a significant gain over the FX-57 set-up...It's not IMHO anyway...Maybe when I get her running all up to snuff I'll change my mind??Right now...I'd google "AMD Barcelona" and keep tabs on that progress...Again...Just MY Opinions..Have Fun...
January 8, 200719 yr "I wonder how loud it is compared to the 510 SLI. Probably about the same??"I've read folks say they are "Loud"...Do you think so?? I don't...I've had a couple of 510 SLI's and the 1kw SLI...I can't say any of them I consider terriably loud?? Maybe I'm just wierd??It looks like I'll be getting another 1kw this week...My OCZ PowerStream 600w died in my FX-57 Rig...I think I'll get a 1kw Quad SLI to replace it with...When it Rain's it Pours...he heHave Fun...
January 8, 200719 yr Author I honestly don't think it is that loud either. When I adjust the RPM on my case fan and crank that up it is MUCH louder than the PS. Also, the 1k is in my FS rig so if that system is on, so is FS with the 5.1 speakers going and the sub is thumping so that drains any PS noise anyway. But honestly for what these things put out I do not find them excessively noisy at all!!!See the 136000 in AM3 is what gets me. I did 14,488 in 3dM05 so we are pretty much equal there but I only run 100k in AM3 so you have a 36% gain over me there... Also, I 1M SuperPi in 26 seconds, not too shabby...I guess the real question is FS though, not the benchies... In FS, I lock at 24 FPS and with the PSS 757 at ImaginSim KEWR with everything running I dropped to ~ 17-19 FPS but I was running at 1920*1200 at 16XAA/16XAF which produced the MOST AMAZING fs experience I have ever had to date... TBH, 17-19 FPS with your AA/AF that high seemed almost smooth. At UK2000 EGCC I was at 22 FPS and heck if I load up anything other than the PSS, LVLD-D or PMDG birds I am pretty much pinned at 23.9 FPS constant. Those add-on AC in NYC with an add-on scenery still drop the FPS though. I wonder if that C2D would get me the 24 FPS anywhere anytime in any add-on???-PaulHEY CHUCK!!!!! You want my PC Power 1k normal SLI for right now? It is just sitting here and I can throw it in a box down to you if you want. I also have an extra Liquid cooled 7800 GTX and an extra Air cooled 7800 GTX... Have a Wonderful Day -Paul Solk
January 8, 200719 yr Sure am glad you made this post...I couldn't figure out how to explain it...Maybe this will make some sense??"I guess the real question is FS though, not the benchies..."Right On... "Those add-on AC in NYC with an add-on scenery still drop the FPS though. I wonder if that C2D would get me the 24 FPS anywhere anytime in any add-on???"My expierence is...The answer is "NO" to the Anytime/Anywhere/Any Add On thing...I don't have your same software(AC, Scenery ect)...But...What I can say is:I'll set up the exact same flight on both systems...Have ASV running with the same weather....Using my KVM switch..Toggle between the two systems Real Time...With Dead ON exact same results FPS wise...If the FX-57 is dropping to 18fps...So is the C2D...This is any given AC..Any weather I've been in..Any Scenery...Just a stright-up head to head comparison going through the same cloud or whatever...*My* C2D has been Dead ON equal to the FX-57...At times I feel the FX may be a tad smoother or responsive...Could be my imagination??Now maybe when I get to OC the thing...It will start to shine?? I can't say for sure...I'm personally not expecting any miricals...I could be wrong?? I dunno yet...Just *My* expierences...Here is a quick rundown of the FX-57...You'll see it's not quite the set-up of the C2D either..Athlon64 FX-57 (@stock 2.8)A8N32-SLI Deluxe mb1gb Corsair pc3200 C2XFX7950GX2 xTreme1x 36gb Raptor (No Raid)Blown-Up OCZ Powstream 600w psPlextor PX-760AAsus Vento"HEY CHUCK!!!!! January 8, 200719 yr HiYa Ryan...My PM was going to mention you..he he...Thanks for checking out the Video for me!! Dunno if your interested but there is a revised copy up now with "Some" of your Mods..Not all though...I'ts allot nicer now IMHO...Still workin' on some New Kewl stuff I just learned...he heHey...Have any of you heard of guys "Morphing" a Raid0 Array...I dont claim to know what I'm talking about...But I think it's like 4(or more even#'s) drives in a single Raid0 array..I'd like to learn more about that...Sorry to be off topic...Just excited to be chatting with you guy's...he heHave Fun...
January 8, 200719 yr Author Hey Ryan, How are you? Yeah, things got a bit tough up here for a while so my simming hours and really any pleasure hours at all went down to almost nil. Now I am only doing rehab three days a week three hours a day from 5:30 am to 8:30 am so I have a lot more time to myself :) :)You wouldn't even know I had the surgery from looking at me... I also have a new lady and just took her to England to meet the family so all over here is good, no complaints at allPM me offline and let me know how things worked out for you. I thought about you for the air-cooled 7800 GTX as well. I still feel horrible about the fumbled travel plans this summer so just send me your addy and I will get it on its way to you. Happy New Year! Chuck, I am not going to do anything with this 1k so just PM your addy. Shipping might be a few bucks if I overnight her, you know these things are heavy :) but ground is only a couple of dollars so let me know how you want it sent. That just leaves me with a single liquid cooled 7800 GTX sitting here unused.I also think I am going to hold off on the C2D. another $1300 after just spending close to $1500 on video cards seems like overkill for another few FPS... Unless you tell me the OC'd C2D gets you 24 FPS anywhere any add on anytime any condition LOL...-Paul Hmmmmm I just had a thought. If I did get the EVGA board with the C2D I could always SLI the dual 8800 GTX's AND put that 7800 GTX in for my second and third monitors... Now there is a thought, C2D with SLI 8800 GTX's AND a 7800 GTX for multi monitor :) I just laugh thinking about that!!! Have a Wonderful Day -Paul Solk
January 8, 200719 yr Author hey Chuck, I thought you would like this...http://www.nforcershq.com/forum/mon-oct-02...m-vp574945.htmlYou might not be alone in your thinking,-P Have a Wonderful Day -Paul Solk
