January 16, 200719 yr My WILCO 777 arrived today and as I was setting it up, the bell rang again and the MATROX Triplehead arrived. A few moments later the DELL 2007 FP arrived. So I set it all up and now I have triple monitors about 60" wide in total doing FS9 (1x24 LCD and 2x20.1" LCDs). It looks stunning and everything works out the box. I am very pleased. The biggest task was arranging the cables. What a horror trip. I have about 20 of 'em by now from my hardware so it was quite a struggle to make it neat and usable.Still, a great afternoon and now it looks amazingly good. I flew the PMDG 744 into KIAD and it was just like being in the left seat in real life. Breathtaking stuff. And great frames and fluidity.I'll try to post a pic soon.JS Jonathan Sacks Dell XPS Gen 4, Pentium IV Northwood extreme 3.8Ghz, 3Ghz RAM, eVGA 7900 GTO, 12 GoFlight modules plus MCP-PRO AP and EFIS, GF pedestal, CH rudder pedals, CH throttle quadrant, 42" LG LED, 24" DELL LCD, Windows XP, FS2004, FSUIPC 3.96 FS Autostart 1.1 (Build 11), FS Navigator 4.6, UT, FE, GE, REX, PMDG, Level-D, PSS, etc.
January 16, 200719 yr You're obviously not running your monitors in their native resolution given the resolution limits of TH2G. I found this to provide an image that lacked the clarity that I wanted. Have you found a way around this problem?Robert Robert Chartoff

January 16, 200719 yr At last. It has been like War and Peace. Good luck JS:) Regards Howard H D Isaacs
January 16, 200719 yr Good news and good luck ! I can't wait for mine to be complete.Best regardsAndrew
January 17, 200719 yr Author No way round the issue of a lower res that is forced on one by Triplehead, but it's not significant enough for me to make this a bust. Indeed, all works great in the Triplehead default of 3840x1024x32 bit on all 3 monitors combined. The most signifiacnt diffs I see frankly are in the color of the sky but I am working on that and so far so good. Otherwise, the 24" widescreen monitor which is the center panel for me, is stunning and reasonably clear. Granted, it does lack the fabulous crispness of the native 1920x1200 res, but in these better engineered VCs, everything is still pretty legible and looks reasonably decent. The flanking 20.1" LCDs have a native res of 1600x1200 but here too, they look very clear and the cockpit gauge fonts look pretty crisp.Overall, the effect of this huge 60" panel set-up is truly breathtaking and if I really need to get closer to see a cockpit gauage font, it's easy to do.Next I am going to test my still fairly new Track IR 4 Pro with this and see how it works. So, far, nothing in this set up is a dealbreaker.JS Jonathan Sacks Dell XPS Gen 4, Pentium IV Northwood extreme 3.8Ghz, 3Ghz RAM, eVGA 7900 GTO, 12 GoFlight modules plus MCP-PRO AP and EFIS, GF pedestal, CH rudder pedals, CH throttle quadrant, 42" LG LED, 24" DELL LCD, Windows XP, FS2004, FSUIPC 3.96 FS Autostart 1.1 (Build 11), FS Navigator 4.6, UT, FE, GE, REX, PMDG, Level-D, PSS, etc.
January 17, 200719 yr Can someone explain how the TH2GO spans across the monitors?I mean, do you get the cockpit spread across all 3 monitors or does the cockpit stay on the middle monitor while the two outside ones give you 'side 45 degree' views? How does this change with 2D,VC and spot views?Sorry for all the questions, but I am really interested in this system, but can't quite figure out how it all works within FS.Thanks,Glenn Glenn Ryzen 3700X, X570 Pro Wifi, 32GB 3600mhz RAM, Nvidia Titan Xp "Galactic Empire", RM750x PSU, H700 case, 2x NVMe M2 SSD, 1x SATA SSD
January 17, 200719 yr Hi Glenn,In the VC the image is across three monitors so it is all much bigger and more imersive. Also the field of view is 'wider' compared to a single monitor. You cannot really use the 2d views as the bit maps are just stretched out of shape.Does that help? Regards Howard H D Isaacs
January 17, 200719 yr Thanks Howard. That does help some.In the VC, can you see more 'width' or is it just the same view but bigger?Do I get better peripheral vision? (for turns onto final etc.)Thanks,Glenn Glenn Ryzen 3700X, X570 Pro Wifi, 32GB 3600mhz RAM, Nvidia Titan Xp "Galactic Empire", RM750x PSU, H700 case, 2x NVMe M2 SSD, 1x SATA SSD
January 17, 200719 yr Glenn, as a further comment to Howard's reply . . .In FSX I've resized the 2D bitmaps to eliminate the stretching - which sometimes involved undocking the window involved - and then saved the flight so that I didn't have to do it again the next time I flew the plane. This works just fine with the FeelThere ERJ145 and the Eaglesoft Cirrus SR-22. I found that it's not necessary with a true FSX plane such as the default planes or the Real Air Siai Marchetti. Cycling the "A" key when in Cockpit mode works just fine as is.FS9 is a different story. The only plane I still fly in FS9 is the PMDG 747. I've tried to follow the same procedure as I used in FSX, but I've encountered some disappearing windows, etc. This was just my first go at it, and one of these days I'll definitely try it again.Robert Robert Chartoff
January 18, 200719 yr Author Glenn:Matrox TH2G treats all 3 monitors like one giant monitor and assigns it a resolution that you select, max. is 3840x1024 which is the same as three 19" monitors with a native res of 1280x1024 each. This is the largest res available and I use it on a 24" center LCD panel, and two flanking 20.1" LCDs. Takeoffs and landings are a trip because you have an unobstructed view of the centerline and in ym case I have a huge amount of screen to display the PFD, the ND, the left part of the MCP and the entire captains' main window. It is glorious and thrilling to takeoff and approach and land thus especially in horrible weather with cross winds. I've also re-scaled the landing and airport lights so it looks just breathtakingly real when you look up and outside by day or night. You get it to stretch across all 3 monitors by just pulling the FS window across all 3 of them if it does not automatically expand to cover all 3 LCD panels when you click the maximize button at the top right of the FS window. You have a natural straight ahead view with peripheral vision on the left and right side depending on your zoom factor. Many fly with FS9 at ZOOM 0.31 which is the largest zoom-out you can achieve. Windows boots up and displays on the center panel while on my set-up, my myriad (about 30) FS icons appear on the left panel and some on the center panel. Remember, it's just one gi-normous LCD panel as far as THTG is concerned....The VC views are stunning and very lifelike in the PMDG 747-400 and indeed in any good VC of any aircraft. It's highly immersive and the scaling is very good on my panels even with differing display aspect ratios. It's the closest thing to being there.SPOT views are stunning as well because the field of vision is colossal. I have a fly-by utility and it's really like sailing high up in the sky in a slow-moving hydrogen balloon watching jumbo jets streak by at 600 (or 200) mph ! The field of vision is vast and exciting.Regrettfully, all 2D panels in FS9 with TH2G are a disaster. They are massively distorted because they are spread across all three LCDs and they look hideous. I think I could re-size them if I wished but then I would need to pull the sky down to cover the flanking panels on the left and right sides and it would look very weird indeed--I've tried it on two jet panels I love dearly, the 707 and DC-10. So I am afraid that it's probably goodbye to all of my beloved 2D panels. I s'poze I could buy the Captain Sim 707 just for the 707 VC but to my knowledge there is no DC-10 with a great VC.That said, to be frank, if I had just the default Cessna and the PMDG 747-400 with this huge TH2G set-up, I could be satisfied with these two great a/c alone for a very long time.Oh yeah, one final point, I still use FSNavigator and I've undocked it and re-sized it to fit on the right LCD panel using the F9 key. It's brilliant and I don't need a 4th monitor for it as I make it appear and disappear as I need it and there's a ton of room in the remainder of the cockpit view to have it on or off as I desire.Hope this helps!JS Jonathan Sacks Dell XPS Gen 4, Pentium IV Northwood extreme 3.8Ghz, 3Ghz RAM, eVGA 7900 GTO, 12 GoFlight modules plus MCP-PRO AP and EFIS, GF pedestal, CH rudder pedals, CH throttle quadrant, 42" LG LED, 24" DELL LCD, Windows XP, FS2004, FSUIPC 3.96 FS Autostart 1.1 (Build 11), FS Navigator 4.6, UT, FE, GE, REX, PMDG, Level-D, PSS, etc.
January 18, 200719 yr JS,Thanks for the great info. Do you have any screenshots? The selection at Matrox isn't very good. January 18, 200719 yr Here you are Glenn. I dont think you can full appreciate the scope from a photo because you have to get a long way back to get the width in the picture. I normally sit about one foot away so that the two side monitors are in your peripheral vision.http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/165372.jpghttp://forums.avsim.net/user_files/165373.jpghttp://forums.avsim.net/user_files/165374.jpg Regards Howard H D Isaacs
January 18, 200719 yr Wow, that looks awesome! Thanks for posting. Too bad we can't get bezel less monitors to go with this setup as well!Certainly given me something to think about.......EDIT: In a similar way, could I use the two DVI ports on my GPU and use 2 say 24" monitors in spanning mode to get that effect albeit a bit smaller?Glenn Glenn Ryzen 3700X, X570 Pro Wifi, 32GB 3600mhz RAM, Nvidia Titan Xp "Galactic Empire", RM750x PSU, H700 case, 2x NVMe M2 SSD, 1x SATA SSD
January 18, 200719 yr You can span two monitors but you end up with the join down the middle. Looks good initally but the novelty of the bezel soon wears off in my view:)because it lines up with the middle of the runway. I think JS tried it and maybe RESET MCP has it - could be wrong. You could get a second monitor and see how it goes - thats what I did. It also spreads the cost.Edit: Also depends what monitor you have. If you already have a 24inch then its native resolution must be around 1600x1200 or more. If you were to get two more the same then the total native resolution would 4800x1200 which is much more than the TH2GO (and probably the graphics card)can cope with. It would then try to run at 3840x1024 which is non native and images may then appear less clear. I think JS may be running like this because he has a 24inch? center monitor. However, I dont see him complaining. Regards Howard H D Isaacs
