Intel Core 2 CPU critical update

Featured Replies

I've got an E6600. Is this something I need to download or should I only do that if I'm having problems? What's microcode reliability?

As I recall, there were some users with C2D's who experienced a steady degredation in performance when flying longer flights - I wonder if this somehow was a contributing factor to that problem?I would imagine installing it on one of the non-effected C2D systems would be a non-event, but I would probably avoid installing it if you run an AMD. -Greg

This is an intel micro code update for Intel chips only If you runMS updates then you will get this automatically, go to the listof installed updates and check the KB number. You could letMS patcher check your machine for updates and it will see thisas a critical update if it is applicable to your machine.Tom

I installed this update on my Vista 32 E6700 machine and started getting blue screens while on the internet with IE7. I uninstalled the "update" and haven't had a blue screen since. If it ain't broke....don't fix it!!!!

FWIW, I installed it on my E6700 while reverting back from Vista-U to WinXP during a clean-install. I can't say it specifically did anything but I can tell you, right now I'm the happiest I've ever been with FSX so it doesn't appear to have any drawbacks.

Well, I had installed the latest bios for my computer right after purchasing it so I wonder if the "fix" was included with that bios update and perhaps adding the patch created some conflicts that caused my blue screens? Anyway, since removing it all seems to be well again.

When you install it it checks the compatibility of your processor.Tom
