September 20, 200718 yr No Experience with that one but I am waiting for the new Saitek Yoke to be delivered today. Based on the reviews and what I have heard it looks and sounds promising. September 20, 200718 yr Yep, that Saitek unit certainly looks nice. First I was a bit surprised that it was released with three levers only, until I realized you could add another throttle unit. However, while I think the Saitek setup probably is better than my CH Prodcuts yoke and Ch Products USB throttle, I don't think I would move up a whole class so to speak! September 20, 200718 yr I am not sure wether this question should be asked in the hardware forum, so moderators please feel free to move if deemed more appropritate!I've had the CH Products USB yoke for a few years now. It certainly was a big step up from the Saitek X45 I used before (also a fine unit but not quite suitable for flying big jets) and considering it's rather lowly price it has provided me with lots of joy over the years. But as you all know while it gives a lot of bang for the buck, it's also very plastic and inprecise. So I am now considering buying a better and more expensive one and wonder to what extent it will actually enhance my flying experience. With the CH unit I eg feel it's a constant battle of pushing and pulling in order to stay level when flying hands-on and no trimming seems to get rid of that. Would a better yoke improve that? While I'm not considering a 737 replica (unfortunately) this one has caught my eyes: http://www.flypfc.com/jetliner_yoke_saab_343.htmlAnyone who made the switch from a CH Products yoke to a better one that can share his/her experience? I'm usually like the Saitek stuff. It isn't super, but it is a great value for your buck. ------------------------- Craig from KBUF
September 20, 200718 yr The new Saitek Yoke and Throttle Quadrant are the FIRST replacements/ competitors for the CH Products Yoke.Like you the CH Yoke 'saved' me as a flight simmer. I honestly don't think I would have stayed with it and developed a skill level where I'm comfortable to fly almost anything except helicopters in FS. I would have given up and left long ago.I sincerely hope Saitek had taken the complaints and the positives from several years of the CH Yoke and made improvements. That is the feedback I've had from several people who had the CH Pedals and got the Saitek Pedals.I also found that FSUIPC really helps in adjusting the trimming issue - down to where the only aircraft I cannot trim for level flight are those with flight dynamics I'd call either questionable or overly sensitive. Now to be honest - I'm tempted to get the Saitek Yoke and the CH Products Throttle Quadrant.
September 20, 200718 yr Greetings all,I use the PFC yoke and also their throttle quadrants.Although some might find it a bit expensive the quality is unsurpassed and you pay for what you get.My personal feeling is buy it once.I have used them trouble free for several years now.Hope this helps.Best regardsAndrew
September 20, 200718 yr Thanks for the feedback guys!Reggie, so according to what you have heard the Saitek pedals are a definite improvement over the CH Pedals? I've considered getting them but it's just something about their looks that makes me think they come from an Eagle in the tv series Space 1999.The PFC yoke does seem tempting but I am also drooling over the Flyengravity CDU... And the daughter of course needs a big stock of dipers... Krister LindénEFMA, Finland------------------
September 20, 200718 yr Andrew, do you have experience of any other yoke of lower quality? What I am after is wether the PFC yoke also makes you a better pilot because of more fine tuned control over the airplane? Krister LindénEFMA, Finland------------------
September 20, 200718 yr Greetings Krister,I really can't answer your question since the only equipment I have ever owned are the PFC's.Whether or not they make me a better pilot or not I like to thing you can only do the job as well as your tools will perform.Reggie is right on with his comments about FSUIPC.It is a must have although the PFC comes with an unreg. versionHope this helpsAndrewPS I got my children potty trained in a hurry once I was introduced to this sport
September 20, 200718 yr Author Guys,I got the Saitek and I am using it now.You can read my mini review here:http://forums.avsim.net/dcboard.php?az=sho..._id=29262&page=Or you can just go get it ;)-PaulPrimary RigLiquid CooledIntel C2D E6600 @3.2 gigsAsus P5N32SLI-Plus2 gigs Corsair XMS PC6400 4 4 4 12 @810Dual OC'd XFX 8800GTX @ 2 gigs24 inch Widescreen LCD 16XAA/16XAFDual 19 inch LCD'sRaid-0+1PCPower and Cooling 1k Quad SLIhttp://home.comcast.net/~psolk/3monitorsa.htmlBackup RigAMD 4000 San Diego @ 2.72 Gigs Kingston Corsair XMS CL2XFX 7900 GTX Raid-0 Have a Wonderful Day -Paul Solk
September 21, 200718 yr I can't say the Saitek are 'better' because I haven't used them extensively. Only on a friend's computer once for a few minutes. They have a different feel. They do feel more like a real aircraft than the CH Products - though my experience in real aircraft is limited. My friend does own a C-120, and took the CH Products pedals back to Fry's on the second day. He's happy with the Saitek pedals.Don't get me wrong, the CH Pedals have really, really helped me and been worth every penny over the past 4+ years. That's $37.50 per year - cheap any way you look at it.However, if I were buying new today, I'd go with the Saitek.CH Products has been a wonderful company with wonderful products for the Flight Sim community. But the products have sold so well (or poorly) that there has been no development of better models/ versions. As with most things - the latest developed product takes advantage of the learning from the earlier versions. But whatevery way a person goes - the single biggest improvement for Flight Simulator is a comfortable set of pedals - check the space under your desk because they are different sizes.Neither is a piece of trash unworthy of your money.
September 21, 200718 yr I don't have the Saitek Yoke or peddeles yet I will definitely get them soon the biggest problem with the people at ch is that they never bothered to improve on there products for the last couple of years they just kept it the same I really just cant not understand some companies what ever happened to being innovated theses days? September 21, 200718 yr They had a monopoly on a very niche market. Saitek has stepped in and provided an alternative. I got Saitek's new pedals and they're excellent, better than my CH ones. I was interested in Saitek's yoke until I noticed the massive clamping mechansim won't fit on my desk. I use a keyboard tray that works great with my CH yoke - I can have the yoke out and still have convenient access to my keyboard. With the Saitek I dont' think thats possible so that really dissapointed me.
September 21, 200718 yr Author Guys,I got the Saitek Yoke and I have a keyboard tray. A simple $2 C clamp from Home Depot takes care of the Clamp issue. It is worth every penny...-Paul Have a Wonderful Day -Paul Solk
September 21, 200718 yr Paul,I think you've talked me into replacing my CH Products USB Yoke and CH Products USB Throttle Quadrant with the Saitek unit (with another throttle unit). I just watched the video and pictures here http://www.gamingnexus.com/Default.aspx?Se...=Article&I=1563 and it definitely looks much sturdier than the CH Products one. I especially like the bigger handles on the throttle! One last question, I assume there are detents so you can make the throttle handle reverse too? But is it hard to set-up? The CH products throttle can be a bit fiddly when it comes to this! Thanks for all your answers! Krister LindénEFMA, Finland------------------
