what is the largest highest resolution monitor a guy can get? :-)

Probably a 30" at 2560x1600

Would you recommend a make/model? I see that Dell has one but know nothing about dell products.Tim

Sargeski has one of these and I bought one based on his recommendations,http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/182645.jpg28" Hanns-G 1900x1200http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?sk...d=1188561324689I paid $540 when it was on sale @ BB. You can order it from places like newegg or zipzoomfly for around that price. It's a good deal cheaper than the dell 30's and won't need SLI for most games @ 1900x1200.See if you can examine one for suitability at your local BB.I have mine hooked to my 8800gtx using the included dvi-hdmi cable. I'm glad I bought this monitor. The only knock I have is compared to my old high end 22" crt, very dark night scenes don't look as good. But crt's are much better in that area.Just a bang for buck option for you to check out. BB will let you return it if you aren't satisfied or have bad pixels.Good luck

some people run their tv as their monitor. my friend uses his 52 inch plasma as his monitor. Crazy.

Well Sargeski, after spending a little fsx time with a screen this big it would be hard to return to a smaller one. It's a great monitor, especially for the price. As I stated, the only real knock is flying in pitch black areas. My crt was much better in that respect, but crt's are naturally better at portraying very dark scenes. (ok, I'll admit it. I'm a CRT fan.)IE7 text is crisp and clear, the vista desktop never looked so good. Photo viewing is well defined and the colors look pretty good.1900x1200 is high enough res for a monitor this size and that's right in single 8800gtx territory for every game except possibly crysis. I have a Dvico Fusion 5 USB HDTV tuner and 1080p broadcasts look as good as any hdtv I've ever seen. The monitor's dvi and hdmi ports are HDCP enabled so HD-DVD or Blue-Ray can be seen in all their glory if you have vista. Mine had no dead or stuck pixels. I don't really notice any back light bleed. I bought mine at BB so I could return it locally if it wasn't up to decent standards. The unit @ BB has an adjustable height stand, the one sold on the egg doesn't. I think they both accept a vesa wall mount for the stealth look, I know this one does.I'm sure there may be better panels available, but not at this size/price range. Overall I'm happy with my purchase because it's about the most I would ever spend on a monitor so getting a better one ain't gonna happen for me considering the huge jump in price.I did the widescreen=True tweak in fsx.cfg and it's awesome. I use a TrackIR and the widescreen tweak improves the sense of speed and depth perception a little. Now I think I'm gonna get a 17" lcd to place along side this one. I'll get one that can rotate 90deg so I can use it to display the FSX radio stack and/or gps.Out of the box the brightness and contrast settings are way, way too high. So high it reduces the range of visual colors. I adjusted it with a calibration page on the net, but I'd like to buy a cheap colorimeter such as the Colorvision Spyder or the Pantone Huey. But I wanted one even when I had my CRT.Thanks for your earlier recommendations. They did influence my purchase.

I just bought a 42" lcd 1080p. not to happy with the picture. you mention above you did the widescreen=true tweak in fsx.cfgI am using fs9. will this option be in my cfg file or do I hv to add this to the file and if so where do I add it? I guess I cld just look. I only had this monitor(or I should say television) for 2 weeks. Not to happy with picture. always having to fool around with settings. I was told by my computer guy that this was a computer monitor. when it came the box said television. I wanted to return it but they will not take it back. I am taking legal action. I am using dvi cable. what's happening is that i get blotching on the picture. lakesides have edges like the teeth of a saw or sometime square shorelines. my scenery......especially trees shiver. any help or advice would be appreciated.Tim

Did you use s-video ports by chance from yout tv to your computer>?Tim

They may be physically bigger but, in terms of resolution, don't beat the 30" panels at 2560x1600

For what its worth, I have the Westinghouse 42" 1080p monitor and it is simly GREAT!!!, just put a 8800GT in place and the picture is something to behold..........Still have the NEC fp2141 CRT and that is better than before, but not even close to the LCD.....I only use FS9 (with a bunch of payware) so the second monitor isn't too important, but think I might replace it with a reasonably priced 24" LCD, haven't looked at them for some time so if anyone has some suggestions I would appreciate!!........maybe Westy's come in smaller sizes..........If you ever get a large screen you will NEVER go back to the tiny ones........B42L8

Your visual issues sound more like video card than monitor issues..Have you got FS9 set to 32 bit color? Are the shorelines different if you view this on another monitor? It may just be that you notice imperfections more on a bigger screen..

Bert

Dick. You use the term monitor. Is it a television? I have 2 8800 gtx cards.Bert. I had a 32" and this 42 " can't compare to the 42".When it was first installed all I could get was in the 1600 area resolution. The computer guy went back to the shop and thot it out. 2 days later he installed a dvi cable and some kinda fix from a disk so i cld get 1080p. Bert, re 32 bit. where do i check for that? in CFG File?Lith1um. If cfg file don't have the wording widescreen, can you just add them in FS9 CFG?They refuse to take monitor/television back. I'm in process of taking them to the "better business bureu" then to court if that don't work.what i really wld like now is the 2560x1600 . I know this shld have a better picture but it dos't and i don't no why not. Comments fellas?Tim

I've never run FS9 on a widescreen monitor, so I can't help you with that. I was indeed refering to the fsx.cfg tweak.I did a quick google for fs9 and widescreen but didn't find much.Sorry and good luck.
