February 7, 200818 yr I have put together a new system mainly for FS9 and it is as follows:C2D E6750 @ 3.6 Ghz (450 x 8) very stableAbit IP35Pro2Gb Crucial Ballstix 8500 @ 1:1 (900Mhz)XFX 8800GT 512MbXP Pro on 250Gb Seagate SATAFS9 on 150Gb Raptor 10.000rpmSb Audigy 2It's a clean install and I've added FSGlobal 2008, Ultimate Terrain Europe & USA, Ultimate Traffic, Active Sky, GE Pro plus various other scenery and PMDG 737.I upgraded from an AMD64 3700+, 1Gb RAM, X800XT PE.The improvment in FPS is great but here comes the weird part...I HAVE to lock my FPS to 60 (same as my Samsung 225BW LCD), othwerwiseI get massive stutters. Not so bad if I set it to unlimited, but if I lock it to 30, it sure stays at 30, but stutters like mad.Flying less complex aircraft is a joy at 60 FPS, completely smooth... well there is an occational stutter sometimes, but nothing bad.If I load up the PMDG I see the FPS hovering between 45-55 so I lock to 30, and again it stays at 30 all the time but STUTTERS!!!Also I've noticed that changing the TEXTURE_BANDWIDTH_MULT value does nothing. It can be 0 or 1000 or anything in between.TextureMaxLoad also seems to do nothing. In fact the only fs9.cfggraphics setting that does something is TERRAIN_DEFAULT_RADIUS and I got rid of most of the blurries fiddling with this value. On my old system, a FPS lock on 30 would be smooth as silk.My hopes for this new system was smooth flight locked at 30 FPS regardless of aircraft and scenery, and it seems possible if I can just get rid of the stuttering.Anyone who might have a solution this?!?
February 7, 200818 yr As far as I know, framerate lock means FS will not try to maintain a rate over the locked amount. Thereby saving resources for other jobs (like loading upcoming data faster), not maintaining the locked rate. Each rig is different, so lock your rate ( if that's what works best for you) at 60 and have done with it.You should not be afraid of FSX with your box.BobE6750 stock1333fsb2gb 6678800gtvista 32 bit basic Bob i5, 16 GB ram, GTX 960, FS on SSD, Windows 10 64 bit, home built works anyway.
February 7, 200818 yr Author That's what I have thought aswell. But when I fly the default Cessna locked at 60 everything is ok. If I set the lock to 30 it should free up even more resources, but instead it starts to stutter.Isn't that weird?!What are your and other 8800GT users fs9.cfg settings at? (only the important parameters).
February 7, 200818 yr by any chance is your monitor refresh rate 60Hz?Might have something to do with that... | My Liveries | FAA ZMP | PPL ASEL | | Windows 11 | MSI Z690 Tomahawk | 12700K 4.7GHz | MSI RTX 4080 | 64GB 6000 MHz DDR5 | 500GB Samsung 860 Evo SSD | 2x 2TB Samsung 970 Evo M.2 | EVGA 850W Gold | Corsair 5000X | HP G2 (VR) / LG 27" 1440p |
February 7, 200818 yr Author Yes, it's 60Hz as it's an LCD. Can't change it to anything else. But I used the same monitor with my old computer and 30 fps lookednice then. Can you elaborate on this 60Hz thing?
February 8, 200818 yr WOW, you are on the same vote as me. I have to lock my frames at like 25 then I get NOT silk smooth performace like I used to get with my older build (locked at 30 was smoooooooth). With frames looked at can fly with somwhat smoothness, but I dont get the micro stutters when banking and turning. I have had this issue ever since I reformated my hard drive. My system was very smooth with my old build which was:WIN XP Pro SP2AMD 34002gig DDR400Geforce 6800GT (AGP)SB Audigy 2 Value Sound CardMaxtor 200gig 7200 HD (SATA)Antec True Blue 480W PSWish you the best with that, let me know if you find a solution for it, I have tried every tweak possible in the config with no luck.Regards,Bill Asus Tuf Gaming Plus B550 - Ryzen 7 5800X3D - Asus GeForce 4080 RTX OC Edition - 64GB DDR4 (3600Mhz) - EVGA 850W Power Supply - 2X 1 TB NVME PCIE gen 4 - Windows 11 (25H2)
February 9, 200818 yr Did you find a resolution to your problem?Bill Asus Tuf Gaming Plus B550 - Ryzen 7 5800X3D - Asus GeForce 4080 RTX OC Edition - 64GB DDR4 (3600Mhz) - EVGA 850W Power Supply - 2X 1 TB NVME PCIE gen 4 - Windows 11 (25H2)
February 9, 200818 yr Author It's now working a little bit better. I ran Filemon to check what's going on and found that fs9.exe was "querying information" all over the place. So I exchanged the fs9.exe for a new one (9.1 nocd version)and the crazy file quyring stopped. It still does it but a lot less and only the correct files. But there seems to be a problem with Vsync. If I lock the FPS to 30 and turn off Vsync, the fluidity is there, just like on the old system with vsync ON, but I get a lot if tearing instead. The stuttering also seem to almost stop when no Vsync is used. Again, when up to it, 60 FPS with Vsync On is smooth as butter and only a few occational stutters. If I lock the FPS to 20 it stutters like crazy!!!I'm starting to consider going back to ATI.
February 9, 200818 yr Where did you get the new fs9.exe file? Can I give it a go? This was also happening with my old Geforce 6800GT and my new ATI X1950 Pro.Thanks,Bill Asus Tuf Gaming Plus B550 - Ryzen 7 5800X3D - Asus GeForce 4080 RTX OC Edition - 64GB DDR4 (3600Mhz) - EVGA 850W Power Supply - 2X 1 TB NVME PCIE gen 4 - Windows 11 (25H2)
February 9, 200818 yr Author Get the file from fsnordic.net, file library sectionor just google for it.
February 13, 200818 yr Author Haven't solved this problem yet and I'm waiting for replies fromthe graphic card manufacturer. I also sent an email to the guy whomakes the omega drivers asking for help.Meanwhile, here is a video I posted on youtube today that showsmy situation pretty well:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RAJN6S334U0
February 15, 200818 yr As you will see in my sig, I have a very similar system to yours, one CPU class down, but also OCed, so I am getting pretty much the same performance as you do.Did your tests, and also can report the same thing. VSync apparently plays a big role in smoothness. And I am also seeing stutters you are showing. Though I learned to live with them, for the sake of simming, I WOULD like to be rid of them, if somehow possible.
February 15, 200818 yr Author I'm not using FSForce as I don't have any force feedback devices. There has been some improvment after I installed the latest november 07directx release and some fs9.cfg tweaking. It seems like it's reallysensitive to the values you set texture_bandwidth_mult and TextureMaxLoad at. Gonna keep trying different values and see if I get it to work better.I suspect the best improvment came from lowering the texture_bandwidth_mult from 200 to 60. Here's the important settings from my .cfg[DISPLAY]UPPER_FRAMERATE_LIMIT=30TEXTURE_BANDWIDTH_MULT=60TextureMaxLoad=8[TERRAIN]TERRAIN_ERROR_FACTOR=100.000000TERRAIN_MIN_DEM_AREA=10.000000TERRAIN_MAX_DEM_AREA=100.000000TERRAIN_MAX_VERTEX_LEVEL=19TERRAIN_TEXTURE_SIZE_EXP=8TERRAIN_AUTOGEN_DENSITY=5TERRAIN_USE_GRADIENT_MAP=1TERRAIN_EXTENDED_TEXTURES=1TERRAIN_DEFAULT_RADIUS=9.500000TERRAIN_EXTENDED_RADIUS=4.500000TERRAIN_EXTENDED_LEVELS=2
February 15, 200818 yr I found out today morning very weird thing indeed: I lowered ALL settings to their lowest, and also deleted all Nvidia profiles and set all to default, with least quality.FSForce was still enabled.Result was amazing: in windowed mode, I had 200FPS, in full screen, EXACTLY 60FPS, like I locked it, but I didn't. Also VSync was off (I have LCD btw). Then through trial and error, I found out that FSForce was causing this weird occurance. After that I did a little testing, and it proved to be much smoother sim without it. I did the same tests as you did, and without any scenery and everything lowest, it would still stutter, SAME like yours, with FSForce in modules folder. Fact is, also when I disabled all unneeded services and programs for flying, it was SO smooth locked at 50FPS. Until now 40 was enough (CRT), and now with an LCD, the perception must be different, but also puter is stronger, so 50 it is now. Also per your confirmation, I can also say that texture bandwidth settings has a big impact. I think it has already been confirmed that on each PC and setup it has different impact. I think you just have to test it...Rest of your settings look more or less like mine. I set TERRAIN_EXTENDED_LEVELS to 1, because I see no difference at 2 or 4.
