November 22, 200817 yr :) :)Attention Nvidia users - The latest driver 180.48 was recently released and has made a very nice improvement to FSX frame rates in my rig. In addition, I installed the Novemeber Direct X update from MSFT. Together, I've seen anywhere from 10-20% jump in frames and overall performance has increased.:) :)
November 22, 200817 yr Yes, I agree. Although I don't see much of a FPS change, I do feel like it's smoother and the graphics are clearer. It does not fix any of the issues with DX10 preview though. I did get quite a boost with my 3dMarkVantage score:178.24 Video drivers - 12963180.48 video drivers - 13798Any improvements are appreciated....Jim
November 22, 200817 yr I will also confirm this driverThis is the first driver I would put my seal of approval on for XP x64 and the 8000 series cards since 174.74 betaThe IQ is better and I can confrim after putting the screws to this driver over the last week there is a defined 8-20% increase depending on the scene with an average of about 9-13This driver is also the first official support for x58
November 22, 200817 yr Nick,I just want to confirm that this driver will be good for my system before I give it a go. I really hate updating video drivers. You mentioned xp64. Is 32 bit vs 64 bit relevant with vid drivers? Any special considerations in doing the update? I appreciate your thoughts on the matter.Best Regards,Jeff
November 22, 200817 yr no issues as far as I know but no XP 32bit users have chimed in yetmore user reports herehttp://www.simforums.com/forums/forum_posts.asp?TID=28555I dont use XP x32and you should know by now I can tell you what is going to happen if you upgrade a driver. If I report my findings its based on what I see here. Thats why I said YMMVbut so far I have not seen anything bad said about this driver and FSX;)

I did know that you don't have a crystal ball to see into my system's future. I just like to check with the experts before I jump into the pool. :) I wasn't sure how far your experience went with this driver on different OS's so, I figured it wouldn't hurt to ask. Thanks again. I'll give it a shot after a backup and post back.Best Regards,Jeff
November 23, 200817 yr I downloaded the new Direct X, but for some reason, I cannot install it. It starts and tells me there are problems with the internet connection...and I don't seem to have any problems connecting to anything else. What's wrong with this?
November 23, 200817 yr known issue.. we think its the file itself..download the full redist package instead of the web installer
November 23, 200817 yr Am using a 8600GT, so the drivers for my card are not at release 180 yet (as 180 is only for 8800 cards in the 8 series).
November 23, 200817 yr Commercial Member Same problem here with DX9 update, downloading the larger redist pack solved it.Many thanksSimon www.supertrafficboard.com
November 23, 200817 yr When will FSX be able to use Direct X 10 and stop having the flashing runways?I've installed the new Direct X and the Nvidia driver, and the frames seem better, but the runways still flash when you try the DX 10 preview.
November 23, 200817 yr "Oh Gawd help us all: another nVidia driver...?"Yes. Three things you can be assured of is death, taxes, and new video card drivers.... LOLJim
