Practice thread #10

I'll have to check when I get home - but one version was setup with that option - might be an older one - I'll have to look at the newest. However, to make that button show up - you had to enable a setting to send data to the server in the settings or options button. One other setting we've found allowed the .JPG file size / quality to be modified. Some folks were gettng .JPG files over 100KB in size too large to post on most forums.EDIT - found it - The current version is v.0.700 R85 across the top - make sure you have that one - the install was updated today or yesterdayUnder the Settings button - you can select - "Automatically post official baton runs?" - that will enable a "Carrying the official baton" selection box on the main screen. This allow near realtime tracking of the baton on the official site (http://mw0.ath.cx/%7Ematt/RTW/resources.htm) - but also allow a team to do test flights without the Duenna reporting their position.Hopefully next year validations can be posted to a server automatically - avoiding the need to post a validtion on the forum. The posting of too many .JPG files have been an issue for all the teams with the forum software.

When in doubt go to the source. John has clearly outlined what the Duenna does on posts on this forum, SOH and FlightSim.It checks the PA once a minute.First over PA - blinking yellow warningSecond over PA - generates an exception report and the light turns solid yellowA second exception invalidates the flightErrors:16.02.2006 16:26:25z Altitude exception: last measurements were: PA 8690' (before) and 9521' (now) ---- CREATED BLINKING YELLOW ATTENTION NEEDED WARNING16.02.2006 16:27:26z Altitude exception: last measurements were: PA 9521' (before) and 10542' (now) ---- CREATED SOLID YELLOW WARNING - one exception error now to be reported16.02.2006 16:27:27z ERROR NEW: [PA<8500']16.02.2006 16:27:27z AT N 65* 35,3' / W 36* 02,1' at 10136ft GS:286kts, IAS:260kts, VS:997ft/min16.02.2006 16:27:27z STATE 16.02.2006 16:27:27z AIRCRAFT P-51H 'USAF' Long Range / Counter 216.02.2006 16:27:27z This is the Exception report and sets counter to one exception 16.02.2006 16:28:26z Altitude exception: last measurements were: PA 10542' (before) and 11569' (now)[/b] ---- Started record of second exception16.02.2006 16:29:27z Altitude exception: last measurements were: PA 11569' (before) and 12595' (now) ---- Second Exception confirmed - flight now InvalidNote that it took four continuous minutes to invalidate the flight. Due to the counting - in can be up to 4 min 59 seconds. You could have gotten back down under 8500 ft for the fourth minute time check and still been legal.Note that the first reading over 8500 ft does nothing but record the PA altitude - it takes two consecutive readings one minute apart to trigger anything. One reading does not invalidate a flight. The two exception reports counter keeps a pilot from flying higher and dipping down every fourth minute.A two consecutive minute exception early in the flight is your warning - that's why Duenna turns that section of the screen yellow.Another two consecutive minutes later in the flight will invalidate the flight.

baton is free at EKVG

Good show, Manfred!Vagar is known as a 'Dangerous Airport'. In fact, the reason I took a long leg and bypassed Reykjavik was so we had the option of bypassing EKVG. But now we're there, so... Who's next?BRGDSSven Sorensen, EKCH

Hi,QTEUnder the Settings button - you can select - "Automatically post official baton runs?" - that will enable a "Carrying the official baton" selection box on the main screen.UNQTEI thought it was the the other way around - that I was missing the checkmark, and so I would have no use for the Auto Post thing. Thanks a lot!BRGDSSven Sorensen, EKCH

Hi again, ReggieWell as I said - my Duenna was kaput. I did see it begin to blink yellow, but it wasn't until later (yes, could have been a couple or 4 or 5 minutes) that it turned red. And it probably gave me an Overspeed error (on the display, anyway) because it had 2 versions of the Duenna mixed together. Thanks againSven Sorensen, EKCH

thanx sven...didn't know Vagar was a "dangerous" airport...sometimes it's better not to know the whole truth...;-)anyhow: i hope that we'll make it to Africa tonite ;-)

yes, It's better to go direct to Stornoway if you have the range and winds to get there.

I don't think it was an overspeed error - just John put the time error and the overspeed error in the same area - running out of space on the computer window / form. But I'm not sure - I'll post a question to John. I've never seen Duenna will a flight due to overspeed. It will record an overspeed crash - but the last time I tried - it only recorded the number of seconds of overspeed. So far the concensus of people testing / using Duenna is that FS enforces any overspeed penalty if the realism settings are correct by crashing the aircraft. Now the record of seconds of overspeed is very useful for the pilot - because I've observed two types of overspeed crash. When the speed jumps about 5% above the overspeed limit - FS crashed the aircraft immediately. Or when the total accumulated time of overspeed during the flight reaches 60 seconds - FS crashes the flight.

isn't there anybody willing to do a little flight to merry old england?...come on guys let's keep on rolling...:-hmmmjust you, your plane, the weather and the stars -and you could even drink a beer while you're at it- listening to some cool music...better than real life! ;-)...just don't get carried away...:-bigangel

Gonna take this one as it's my local airport :)

OK, just so I'm straight, whose got the baton, from where to where, and have they left yet?I thought I'd start getting in some real practice, instead of shopping for new planes. I'd better make sure I have my act together this close to race time.CB
