New GMAX Convair 240/340's and DC-6 version 6 Panel

16 posts in this topic

Hi all,Just a note to let you know that an American CV-240 and United CV-340 are now available at my propliners site. These are built by Greg Pepper and include a virtual cockpit, reflective/night textures, operating airstairs/door, feathering props and much more. The new panel includes a new bitmap by Alan Jennings and Greg Pepper, and many of the gauges are new too, designed just for the Convair panel.A Frontier CV-340 has been uploaded to AVSIM and will be available in a few days.I've also uploaded the new DC-6 panel version 6 to my site, which has most of the features of the old FS2000 version 5 panel. It comes with new United and American FSDS2 DC-6B's with rolling wheels, new props by Greg Pepper, FS2002 landing light, etc. (Further improvements will come later). These both have new accurate FS2002 flight dynamics by FSAviator and have sounds too. They fly great both by hand and on autopilot.Enjoy,-- Tom GibsonCalifornia Classic Propliners: http://www.calclassic.com/Cal Classic Alco Page: http://www.calclassic.com/alco/Freeflight Design Shop: http://www.freeflightdesign.com/ San Diego Model RR Museum: http://www.sdmodelrailroadm.com/Drop by! ___x_x_(")_x_x___

Tom, thanks so much for what you are doing for all of us, especially those in the audience for whom changing a light bulb is the height of technical achievement, while designing aircraft, scenery, etc is something way off the chart.I really enjoy the multi props...the bigger the better. The throb of the engines, the way the planes handle, the grace of lift off, and the steady descent while landing...then, there are the challanges that come to the sim pilot trying to get safely down in marginal weather. The big jets may have their appeal to some, but the stick and rudder challanges of the vintage props...that's aviation....I know of dc3airways, but are there other VAs dedicated to the propliners?Sherm

Excellent planes. These type of aircraft just drive me nuts Nothing like the sound of those puffing and belching engines! Just excellent craftsmanship Tom and crew.

Tom, Flew the United 340 last nite before piping up. I knew it was going to be a treat and no disappointment here! :-) Seems for me the realism of flightsim is greater when flying the old props. ;-)Best, Rob

Tom,That's great news about the new GMAX Convairs. Any chance you will be doing a re-paint in Western Air Lines livery? Would love to see it as my father, now 84, flew as a Captain for Western on these. (Started his 35 year carreer flying the Boeing 247 and DC 3s, retired flying the DC 10.) I have fond memories of occasionaly being able to accompany him on on of his trips, riding jump seat, or occasionaly even on the old man's lap during the cruise portion of the flight. (That was some 45-50 years ago.)Dean Hoagland

You guys have raised the bar -- again. Just when I had settled that the Convair 580 was my all-time favourite addon, along comes the 340.Outstanding work. Many thanks.BlairCYOW

Hi,Yes, I hope to do a Western 240. However, since it had the ventral airstairs (rather than the door on the right side), it will be a bit of a project. So, I'll probably wait for a quiet time to do that - a few months, I would expect (lots of things going right now, as you might suspect!).Take care,-- Tom GibsonCalifornia Classic Propliners: http://www.calclassic.com/Cal Classic Alco Page: http://www.calclassic.com/alco/Freeflight Design Shop: http://www.freeflightdesign.com/ San Diego Model RR Museum: http://www.sdmodelrailroadm.com/Drop by! ___x_x_(")_x_x___

Great planes, but I do have a couple problems/questions regarding the convairs 340 and 240.....When on the ground, I get rather slow response in turning the aircraft when taxiing, and once in the air it yaws a lot, particularly when straightening out after a turn and at landing speeds in landing configuration which (at least for me) makes landing very difficult.... Is this normal? One other thing is that the exit sometimes seems to have a mind of its own, ie opening/closing when I don't want it, including once in the air.... Related to the door indicators on the panel? Don't get me wrong, I'm not intentionally bashing the aircraft.. Everything else looks and works great. I'd just like to find out if this is normal behavior or if it's just my system....
