yes, things in brackets don't show up. It appears that the forum software tries to interpret them as commandsChristian

Funny thing is, when replying the square brackets do show up. For them to show up in the post itself as well, you have to check the 'Check here if you want to format your message in plain text' option above the text entry box. Anyway:>source=GE> ...>[G00gIe

Since Ed seems to have other, more important things to do, and therefore hasn't updated his ini file for a while, let me reiterate this: everyone who uses the ini file available from Ed's site should update the server address in the module_config line of Service Example 2, as well as the map versions for all services. Have a look at the 'Map Version update' thread pinned right above this thread for the current versions and any other changes.

Hi all! Sorry for the long silence...we've been busy moving to another home across the state since July 1st and I've finally got my rig back up and running. Whew!I've just updated the Pre-Configured ProxyUser.ini file available at the Quick-Guide Tutorial to reflect the new map versions and Service 2's "kh*" to "khm*" URL changes. All services seem to be working fine with them. The Beta 6 ProxyUser.ini file has been updated too for those who still prefer to use that version, and I added a few minor clarifications to the tutorial text as well. Thanks to Arista for the updates too!Happy Landings to all!-Ed

Ed,I wanted to tell you that I am SO very thankful for the tutorial. I have held off of trying TP for so long simply because I wasnt sure I'd be able to get it set up and running. Well, after reading your guide once completely and then again while installing it, I can say that it works great (with the exception of an occasional black tile here or there). I also want to say that Im using it with FS9 on a new PC and in a network environment, as I have a full scale Learjet 45 flight deck. I love TP, it's awesome and actually performs very well considering how fast Im flying. Thanks again,Eric TomlinFlightLevel180.org

sorry to dig up the thread, but i was looking for ways to fix my tileproxy and found this thread which helped me _IMMENSELY_ in understanding level_mapping vs lod, now it runs a lot more beautifully. on the long run i also managed to uncover the graal of blurry textures: it's called "Unlimited frames"! Somehow it seems that setting locked frames will free up more cpu for texture loading - and significantly cutting back on the 3d engine, hence the low fps values. go figure :(

The best way to prevent other progs from cocking up TP is to stop them running at the outset. The only way to do this is from the RUN command type msconfig, click on selective startup, uncheck the load startup items then click on the Services tab, then check "Hide all Microsoft Services" then click disable all. This disables all none microsoft services. OK your way out and re-boot.
ah yes, killing processes and stopping services, welcome to my world since like, almost ever! :( My Windows 7100 RC1 Beta :( yep, still running since installed it last may 09 B) 2r3atmo.png

In the spirit of this thread "Beginners Guide" can anyone advise me re installing a new Microsoft.NET Framework? My new PC came with version 1.1 installed by the WIN 7 O/S. TP requires version 2.2 or higher. I have version 3.5 but cannot set it up . . . halfway through the installation process I get a message saying "turn Windows Features on or off" in order to continue the set up process. After a great deal of difficulty locating the Turn Windows Features on or off site and trying it both ways, (on and off) I still get the same message when I try and set it up. I'm stuck and would appreciate some advice if it's available. Thanks,

:( What a superbly written document. Ed must be an educator of some sort. Clear, concise and "un-cluttered" makes a relatively complicated situation, (at least to me it is) so much easier to understand. I still can't get it to work but I have a problem I posted here re installing a higher level of MS.NET Framework file and if and when I get some advice on it then I can proceed with the use of this great looking add-on.Thanks Ed.ps. one other question . . . do I need to delete the original Tile Proxy.ini from the start up menu once I have it installed Ed's in my FS9 root directory?

I have TP installed for FSX and FS9. I've never gotten the FS9 'side' to work but I have only ONE tileproxy folder and it has a proxyuser.ini file in it. A StartMenu link points to this file. At the time of install, the file is Christian's. After REPLACING this file with Ed's version, the link still points to proxyuser.ini only now the CONTENTS are Ed's. I have scores of different .ini files saved as type TXT. When I want to use one of them it must be copied OVER the previous version and the link still points to the active file of the same name... regardless of which version it happens to be at the moment. Deleting a LINK in the Start Menu changes nothing about what is in the ini file. If you just have just a duplicate link, you can certainly delete either (or both) if you choose but I edit so often that I have several links to the ini tucked away here and there. And what proxyuser.ini in a FS ROOT directory? It had best be in the TileProxy folder itself - or did you install TileProxy directly the sim root folder?Loyd

Hooked since FS4... now flying: FSX Acceleration on Win7/64, Core Duo E8400; GA-EP45-DS3R; GTX 460-768MB; 4G RAM; Freezer 7 Pro

As per Ed's manual . . .
Now, simply place one of the ProxyUser.ini files (for the FS version you want to fly, i.e. FS9 or FSX) in the main TileProxy root folder. Backup the original if you wish. I've included both versions because they differ slightly the way they're configured. You'll need to switch them out of the TP root folder if you decide to switch FS versions, so keep copies of each on hand. If you installed TP in your FSX root folder the location to place theProxyUser.ini file is: C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Microsoft Flight Simulator X\TileProxy If you do not use FSX and instead installed TileProxy in your FS9 root folder then of course the default location would be: C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Flight Simulator 9\TileProxy
This is what I did and it seems correct?Sorry if this attachment appears three times, I wasn't familiar with the paste process on this forum . . . .

JW,your location is fine (in the FS9) folder. I just keep everything extra out of the FS9/FSX folders that I can, so I have TP installed on another drive. I hope it was clear though that you can delete any extra links to the .ini file; there is only one active one and any multiple links should all point to the the same one anyway.Loyd
