You are not listning to anything we are saying, we have already told you what to get! So let me see if I understand.... You bought a 1000.00 i7965 and have no plans to OC it? WOW WOW WOW! You have wasted ALOT of money! If that is the case you could have got the CPU I have for half the price. I think you should REALLY consider OC the CPU. It is very easy and there is ALOT of help around here to get you to 4ghz. Just when I thought I have heard everything...

There really is no good reason to overclock that CPU, though, it should be fine as it is! Modern CPUs only see negligible performance gains in-game from even the highest overclock, not to mention it can have a destabilizing effect on your system if you get overzealous. I'm not anti-overclocking, but to suggest that he is doing something wrong by NOT overclocking is silly. That's a very capable processor, and many people prefer not to risk the stability of their system with a needless overclock for maybe a 10% gain in frame rates in a best-case scenario. There's no reason to go on an inquisition, here.

Actually there is good evidence that on a CPU bound application such as FSX that a 25% CPU overclock will give approximately a 25% FPS increase all other things being equal. I reference the January issue of Computer Pilot page 10. They test a system with a Intell Q6600 CPU at standard 2.4 (standard), 2.7 and 3.0 Ghz overclock and three different GPU's at each CPU speed. The results as show on a graph on page 10 is that there was little difference between graphic cards, but the CPU overclock gave almost a 1:1 increase in FPS. I can verify on my Q6600 system that is overclocked to 3.1 Ghz that this is true.An increase of 6 FPS from 18 to 24 may not seem like a lot to some, but is may just be enough to push that scenery complexity slider just a little bit further, or run that aftermarket add on that you just bought.

For one he did say that he wanted overkillTwo: a OC on a CPU does wonders for FSX and if you dont OC thats fine with me but you are selling yourself short for FSXThree: Modern hardware makes it even safer to OC as they have safety nets built in for the most part. Yes you can screw things up if you go outside the recomended limits or do something really stupid.Four:The whole point of the 965 is to be able to make changes. If the OP did his homework and did not want to OC he could have saved 500.00 + on the CPU and went with the 940. After all there is not much difference 3 or 400 mhz in CPU speed as you have said. Your statement is way wrong!Five: I never said he did anything wrong, I said he wasted alot of money by not OC the CPU. Perhaps you missed in his 1st post that he wanted to get maximum performance.

Apparently to my understanding, the issue with the cloud rendering in FSX with the ATI cards is fixed now, according to the other thread in the Video Cards and Drivers forum. If that is true, would I still need to replace the card?Also, I was told that NVidia is working on a 2GB version on the GTX 285?
