June 16, 200916 yr ATI 4850 512Mb with the latest drivers, win7, 3Gb Ram.DX10 on gives an unstable FSX with some flickering; DX9c looks okay. Performance is almost the same wth both.RegardsBert
June 16, 200916 yr Also runway lights do not work with DX10, most night lighting does, but not the runway and taxi way lights at most airports. I alway use DX9 for night flying. That's very strange. I fly nothing but DX10, one of the reasons being lighting (including runway/taxi lights) look alot better. The night environment rendered by DX10 is far superior to the DX9 one IMHO. Maybe there's something wrong with your configuration? As for the flickering taxiways, they occur in stock airports as well as addon ones and seem to be related to the "asphalt" texture (I guess some addon airports use the default textures). Replacing the asphalt taxiways with concrete ones solves that problem. That's certainly not a solution unless you love fiddling with ADE, or if you fly to/from a handful of airports but it highlights it's really a limited problem. I'm gonna experiment some more and see if it can be solved but my hopes are not very high I'll succeed.Plus, the water in DX10 looks completely fake, you get near tropical seas in non-tropical areas.I haven't seen this, probably because we don't fly in the same region. Could you please point me to where this happens? I would like to have a look at that.Cheers/Jonas ----------------------------------------------------- i7 920 @ 3.6 GHz; 6Gb DDR3; Windows 7 Ultimate x64; Sim disk=300Gb 10,000rpm (VelociRaptor); OS disk=300Gb 7,200rpm Radeon HD 4870 X2; Audigy 2 ZS; Dual monitors=24" Dell Widescreen (TFT) & 19" BenQ (TFT) FSX Acceleration

June 16, 200916 yr I had to switch to DX10 to maintain frame rates after getting Triple Head 2 Go, and so far it's been great, I don't have the flickering runway problems after switching to nvidia's latest Beta Drivers 186.08. Progressive taxi is gone, but I never used it anyway.I wish the AA was better, but a few jaggies for double the frame-rates is worth it. I also have an SLI set-up which I think it takes advantage of(according to Nick N).I had to change up some scenery, Aerosoft's London is a NO GO, and some planes don't show up at all. It's a mixed bag but the benefits outweigh the flaws for me.

I live there and the water does not look like that on DX10 mode....I run 2xlow or medium with dx9, maybe 1x high on dx10 would look different, not sure, never tried | My Liveries | FAA ZMP | PPL ASEL | | Windows 11 | MSI Z690 Tomahawk | 12700K 4.7GHz | MSI RTX 4080 | 64GB 6000 MHz DDR5 | 500GB Samsung 860 Evo SSD | 2x 2TB Samsung 970 Evo M.2 | EVGA 850W Gold | Corsair 5000X | HP G2 (VR) / LG 27" 1440p |
June 17, 200916 yr How do you make that change Jonas?I just use the Airport Design Editor ("ADE"). It's free, very potent and fairly easy to use. Iterating through all airports to change all taxiways like this it is another matter. Also, I would prefer to have asphalt taxiways where there should be asphalt taxiways so this "fix" is not something I'm happy with. Possibly I could experiment with replacing the texture itself. If it's true that some addon airports doesn't see this issue that could actually help. Unfortunately I'm not a very talented texture artist ... My only problem is injerting good looking wave animations/reflections. My oceans looks like a mirror right now. I've tried REXand that "WaterConfigurator" thingy to no avail. Anyway, I fly up to Lake Superior and have a look at the tropical waters up there./Jonas ----------------------------------------------------- i7 920 @ 3.6 GHz; 6Gb DDR3; Windows 7 Ultimate x64; Sim disk=300Gb 10,000rpm (VelociRaptor); OS disk=300Gb 7,200rpm Radeon HD 4870 X2; Audigy 2 ZS; Dual monitors=24" Dell Widescreen (TFT) & 19" BenQ (TFT) FSX Acceleration

(<-- hint :( )/JonasThank you Jonas, I am trying FDE right nowFor me Dx10 is a winner. I don't care about fps but FSX is much smoother and I really appreciate cockpit shadows and waves. - PC Hardware: AMD Ryzen 9 9950X3D // Asus ROG Crosshair X870E HERO // 2x32Gb Corsair Dominator Titanium DDR5 6000MT/s CL30 // ASUS ROG Strix GeForce RTX 4090 OC Edition // 4Tb Corsair NVMe M.2 MP600 // Corsair 1600W PSU Samsung Odyssey Arc 55" curved 165 Hz monitor. - Simulator Hardware: VIRPIL Constellation Alpha Prime + VIRPIL VPC Universal Control Panel - #3 + MOZA AY210 Force Feedback Yoke + WINWING URSA MINOR 32 Throttle & PAC Metal + WINWING SKYWALKER Metal Rudder Pedals + WINWING Airbus FCU & EFIS + WINWING Boeing 3N PAP + WINWING MCDU-32 + WINWING PFP-4 + WINWING PFP 3-N + WINWING PFP-7.
June 21, 200916 yr I was using DX10 because it gave me cockpit shadows and allowed me to turn on Bloom and max out the water detail setting without turning the sim into a slide show. However, after I discovered the FSX HDR mod, I've gone back to DX9. I still need to keep the water one notch from max, but the sim runs much better than it did maxed out under DX10, with no display errors. Also I can use all the great planes that were not designed for DX10, and the water isn't a cartoon-ish blue any more. -
