April 30, 200917 yr Hope you get it sorted, when it works (which it fortunately does for me) it's really impressive, not to mention incredibly helpful for flying airliners.Al Alan Bradbury Check out my youtube flight sim videos: Here
April 30, 200917 yr I'm curious as to why it works so well on your system Al and not on ours. But I am glad for you.I set up a different flight using a different plane, single seat warbird, and a different airport.First time I was able to call up the ATC window, request taxi, receive instructions and respond. I wasn't able to continue the flight at that moment as I needed to barbeque the meat for our dinner, so I shut down the sim.Next try I was able to contact ground and ask for taxi clearance and receive the instructions for taxi. However, now ATC can't hear me. Keeps asking if I received message and eventually cancels my ATC communication.Hope the next update moves us a little further along or fixes everything.Jim D.
April 30, 200917 yr I suggested to the, for teting purposes, to include an option in the program where it is shown as text what the program thought you said. My problem is that I never know if it was me who did something wrong or the program :-).I found some other problems as well, but since this was a non-public build and it is work in progress, I won't discuss them here. But concerning my initial problem, things are a little bit better now, at least when it comes to recognizing the call sign.
April 30, 200917 yr I downloaded the latest version and problems not only continue, they are worse. Now I can't even call up the ATC window as before. To be fair, I will reinstall and try again, but not really expecting anything yet. We'll see.I will post again.Jim D.
April 30, 200917 yr I just did a test flight with the new built in the Cessna. ATC reckognizes what I say in 95% of all cases, the one case it didn't react the first time, it did the second one.So, at least for me, the new build has absolutely fixed the ATC problems.
April 30, 200917 yr Darem, glad to hear that! I'll be trying again after returning home from work. Hope all goes well.Jim D.
May 1, 200917 yr Well I'm attempting again but get hung up on replying to ATC taxi instructions. ATC just won't hear me. After several attempts ATC cancels communications. Don't know what the problem is with my system. I can call up ATC window, request taxi, receive instructions, try to repeat, ATC window stays visible which shows communication not taking place. I don't know what else to do.Jim D.
May 1, 200917 yr Is the co-pilot/instructor pointing out anything? i.e is he saying you got the callsign wrong or some such, or offering to work the radios for you? If he is, let him do so and try emulating his phraseology. Another thing to try would be an airliner, even the default FS 737 will do, see if it works with that, where you get full crew interaction. If that works, then you will know it is an issue with the aircraft you were using beforehand.Al Alan Bradbury Check out my youtube flight sim videos: Here
May 1, 200917 yr Hi Al;I was using the default Cessna and this time was able to get take-off clearance and a go-around and finally landing permission. Only issues were that I had to repeat myself several times before ATC heard me.After I was on the ground and received taxi instructions to parking, ATC again did not hear me even after several responses. I did a short pattern flight to test it. It has promise, I'm just hoping that it responds faster in the future.I'm finding it necessary to call up the ATC window before replying to ATC instructions since that is the only method of determining if I was heard or not. The window closes if I was heard but stays visible if I was not heard. Are you finding it necessary to do the same? Thanks for your input. Haven't done this with an airliner yet. I'm just practicing with single pilot planes to get acustomed to interaction with ATC.Jim D.
May 1, 200917 yr Aah, now that sounds like you might have to do the voice training again. You might have noticed that there is an option to have it fire up the voice training thing every time you fire up MCE, and most people would likely turn that off because it can screw things up by sitting on the desktop under FS and make you wonder why MCE has not cranked up. But, you might also have noticed that when you do a voice taining sesssion, it asks you to put your name in so the co-pilot can call you by name, and what that means is that you have an MCE personal profile, and that can be improved as far as rcognition goes by doing the training again, which does not replace the file, but instead cumulatively improves it, and that happens each time you do the training. So it is is worth more than one shot at it. I did it three times even though it was pretty good after one shot at it, but it is damn near faultless on me now.You can hide the ATC window and still get an indication that you have been heard in another way incidentally, and that is to select 'use a pilot voice' on the FS preferences. What that will do is have the ATC say your response like it normally does when you use a keyboard (after you have spoken), which might not be ideal, but whilst you are getting used to MCE it is a useful aid to making sure you are saying all the right stuff. So effectively you are using MCE to teach you ATC responses. If it stuffs up with the odd one, just say 'ATC 1' or whatever so that you can still listen to it.Another thing worth trying, which is what I actually did upon first acquaintance with MCE, is to fly a few flights with a big aircraft that has a full-on co-pilot (I used the default FS 737), and I completely ignored the ATC requests, so that every time the co-pilot would eventually say: 'Al do you want me to answer ATC for you?' at which point I would say 'affirmative' and then I listened carefully to what he said and the phrasing he used. That was useful to learn FS ATC responses, which aren't always exactly like the real world. And because I like to fly around Russia and the Baltic in FS, that can potentially cause problems if you do not pronounce the names of the ATC centres the way the FS default voices do. So knowing that you might have to say Moscow Centre with the typical American pronunciation of 'MOSS-COW' rather than the way most Brits would say it, i.e. 'MOSS-CO' is useful, and of course when you get to airports such as Sheremetyevo and Tampere, knowing the way FS expects you to say that is a big help too!A big clue as to it potentially being pronunciation or phrasing recognition problems is to see how effective MCE is with opening interface windows. If it does it right every time, you know it is your phrasing that is off the mark. So, try opening a few windows and other stuff via MCE. Say things like 'Show GPS' and 'Hide GPS' and see if it pops that panel up without errors. Another one I use a lot is 'increase simulation rate' and 'decrease simulation rate'. If it gets those right, you know it's picking up your voice okay and it'll be your ATC phraseology you have to work on. It's useful to do that, because I'm lazy and can't be fussed with all that 'at runway blah blah with IFR to disneyworld etc', so knowing you can get away with 'ready to go' is a big plus.Al Alan Bradbury Check out my youtube flight sim videos: Here
May 1, 200917 yr Your synopsis sounds plausible Al. I have done the training and the copilot does say my name. Too, I can call up the various panels without a problem. So maybe it is the phrasing. I'll work on that.Jim D.[Edit] Just did a second flight and things are getting better. If this works out like it should, and it seems like it's going that way, this is better than the invention of sliced bread in the ATC addon world.
May 6, 200917 yr During my trial period with MCE, I had a number of issues that support has been marvelous in helping resolve. Also, I have expressed a desire for several improvements due to the lack of some processes that were not available on different aircraft. So I want to share some of the emails between support and myself because these developers listen and are working on their product to improve it.My email: Another question:Some add-on aircraft does not load the copilot. Is there a programming method that could make this marvelous program add a copilot? For example, a copilot for the Mid-Atlantic DC3 and the B25. I can get the copilot with the PMDG 737 series except that MCP functions are not changed even though the copilot acknowledges the instructon and sounds indicate that change are being made. For example, setting altitude, CP responds and performs the action but the display does not change. That's OK since I can change the display myself.Maybe it would be too diffulcult to program for all the add-ons out there. Maybe basic functions if not all of them could be transferred into a file for a specific plane.Just hoping. Jim Support's response: As for the DC3 and B25, i reckon we should enable co-pilot. It is disabled, because when the software sees a piston engine aircraft loading it assumes it is a co-pilot free aircraft. That looks like an oversight, and we ought to correct that at least for these 2 aircraft.Regards,The FS++ teamMy email:I hope that you consider having an option for MCE to use or disable the FO for all aircraft (if possible) since many of my addons are commercial type aircraft requiring two pilots, some being turbos as well as piston and jet powered. Jim D. Support:Right now, any aircraft that requires a co-pilot in real world, including the single engine Cessna Caravan, should have the co-pilot available.[/size]We have already enabled the DC3 (that was an oversight). The latest package should be available within a week.Should you come across an aircraft that fails to load co-pilot when it should, just let us know.We are going to implement some sort of "cheat mode" for the few folks eager to enable FO on all aircraft.Regards,The FS++ teamI'm looking forward to these improvements.Jim D.
