May 27, 200917 yr I just started "testing" the MD-11 fsx, and must say it is better than I thought it could be.I inadvertantly got the fps to show before I took of on the tutorial flight, and was bewildered by the results. It showed a measley 7-9 fps, but I can live with that as I have VFR London and mega egll in use, along with Switzerland pro, and fsdt sceneries for LSGG, and LSZH. What got me confused was the fact that even though the count was low, I had no stutters, or pauses at any point in my flight. At 7-9 fpm, you would think it would give me a bad case of the hic ups or something.I am very satisfied, and appreciate the tutorial as it is an excellent starting point. Thanks for the fantastic product, and I look forward to more down the road.Waleed. May 27, 200917 yr Commercial Member Waleed-Thanks for the post. If you are getting 7-9 in that area with those sceneries loaded- you must be in grand shape in other places! One of the "weird" things I've noticed about FSX is that it is smoother at lower FPS than FS9. I have no scientific data on this- but it is my general impression when i've stressed both simulators in order to test performance issues...I find 14+ to be perfectly flyable in FSX, but borderline unusable in FS9...Maybe some day when i have more free time (probably around 2019 or so...) I'll research this a bit with performance tools and see if I can figure out if it is real or imagined. : :( Robert S. May 29, 200917 yr Author Thanks Captain, and yes it does way better in other area. I am looking forward to the Feb.-May. 2010 timeframe as I will probably update to a core i7 system which will probably help out as my collection grows. Mind you, I am not too picky, and do understand that there are plenty of limitations in fs (wxr for eg.) and accept the trade offs. For the record, let me be selfish here, and ask that you keep all your concentration on building more good planes. The beauty here, is that you are not doing more than simply delivering what you promissed, and I like that. I bought a product (heavy) a year ago thinking it was new, and improved as promissed, but it turned out to be a bad port of an older product (fs9 to fsx). Not everyone has their eye set on a win-win philosophy, and that is sad.Anyway, once again, I just love the MD-11, and the tutorial really helped me understand the "logic" of this aircraft, and set me on a learning path. I say this because it took me (I hate manuals) a year to figure out (A320) that I can set the CI to say 20, and still input a M.079 in the cruise page.Great Work, and looking forward to more.Waleed. May 30, 200917 yr Commercial Member CPU is paramount in improving FSX performance - several of the team members here got Core i7 965s and the difference compared to older stuff like the Q6600 I have is astounding - sometimes as much as 3X the FPS. I'll be getting one soon myself I think... Ryan MaziarzFor fastest support, please submit a ticket at http://support.precisionmanuals.com
May 30, 200917 yr Commercial Member Errr, yeah: Core i7 965 not in MY budget anytime soon...that ruined my day. ;-PLet not your heart be troubled. I recently purchased an I7 920, which is considerably lest costly. Frame rates are stellar in almost all situations. It's current price is around $275 US. May 30, 200917 yr Hold out for i5 which should be out in the Fall. I believe Intel is dumping low-end i7; unfortunately this means that future 1366 chips are going to be very expensive. -Alex
