757 Pro causes Vista 64 to close

Featured Replies

I've installed/reinstalled FS9 and JF 757 Pro several times now...followed the advice of putting FS9 on C:/FS9 in Vista 64...I have admin rights with UAC etc turned off. Here's the recurring issue: I load JF 757 initially in FS9 menu, load a saved flight from FSBuild, have AS6.5 running in the background...the 2D cockpit comes up as it should--turn apu on etc....the thin ICON BAR that loads at the top of the screen (ped, set, cdu, efis, etc), I normally just click and drag the ICON BAR and reposition on the glareshield brim...ok so when I simply click in the icon bar, and begin to drag..poof...FS9 shuts down completely...does not come back...simply goes to the vista equivalent of a CTD. Here's the fault code:Problem signature: Problem Event Name: APPCRASH Application Name: fs9.exe Application Version: 9.1.0.40901 Application Timestamp: 4135a208 Fault Module Name: gdiplus.dll_unloaded Fault Module Version: 0.0.0.0 Fault Module Timestamp: 48180344 Exception Code: c0000005 Exception Offset: 6f2c73f6 OS Version: 6.0.6001.2.1.0.256.1 Locale ID: 1033 Additional Information 1: 2b5e Additional Information 2: d41d8cd98f00b204e9800998ecf8427e Additional Information 3: 9258 Additional Information 4: 2ab8630b2dc7cd4405dafaafed592944Read our privacy statement: http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=501...mp;clcid=0x0409Here's what I know thus far...does not happen in other aircraft...PMDG/Wilco/Level D/ of course these don't require clicking and dragging window boxes around in the 2D cockpit.Other factors:1) Happens in both windowed and full screen modes2) Happens when I click on the EFIS selector box and try and move it as well3) Does not happen to squawkbox window box when I move it around..just get the "deck of cards" look as I'm dragging it4) doesn't happen when I click and drag the CDU/FMC in the 757 which when you click on the ICON BAR, usually shows in the upper left part of the windscreen---I can click and reposition this all day with no crashMy FS9 setup in Vista 64:1) Installed on C:/ as recommended....no problems2) Right click on FS9 shortcut icon/properties on desktop and I have RUN in Normal Window (on shortcut tab) on the security tab SYSTEM is highlighted...I'm also showing 4 other options in the security tab--Account Unknown--Kemo(KemoF15\Administrator)---Administrators (KemoF15\Administrators)--INTERACTIVE (this may be a problem) --Why are there 4 different user names?3) Compatibility--I checked "Disable Visual Themes" and "Disable desktop composition"I guess I'm a vista loser...too many options = dangerAny help would be appreciated.ThanksRich Perry(Intel i7 965 Extreme/quad...OCZ 6GB DDR3 1800Mhz...Nvidia GTX 285 (182.drivers with nHancer)...VelRaptor 300GB 10000rpm SATA HD...Dell 24" running in native res of 1920x1200 (same in FS9).

I have the JF 757 (PSS) installed on my system (using the default install path C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Games\Flight Simulator 9 ) and have no issues. Are you using IE8 and the new service pack (SP2)?

I also had it and FS9 on (X86) a couple reinstall rounds ago and had the same issue...most guys mention, and in fact the Just Flight 757 Pro FAQs recommends, installing FS9 on C:/ in Vista--quite frankly, I don't think that is the issue. BTW--thought it might be the mouse driver (made sense--only crashed when I click and drag on a window--so figured what the hey). I installed a vista 64 bit mouse driver...then started FS9 and loaded the 757...it worked!!! But that was short lived, I exited to reload AS6.5 and TrackIR and started FS9 again, only to have the same thing happen again (I've also tried to start it without AS6.5 and/or TrackIR and it's no help--except for that one time) I do have IE8 not sure if I've got SP2 though--what's the connection? I failed to mention up top, I am running Vista 64 Ultimate with SP1.Since I've run with all those programs in the backgorund on WinXP 32 bit with JF 757 on my older (now dead alienware), it's not a compatibility issue with other addons---my hunch (besides the mouse driver)is obviously something unique to my setup since most guys have had no problems...I've done the video driver update etc several times---reinstalled 757 Pro with 1.3 upgrade several times (including a fresh download from Just Flight)...I've done a reinstall of FS9 about 4 times in the last several days...again everything is playing very well except 757. One additional thing I noted, I can't find the original 757 cockpit config tool (2D or 3D box).Running out of steam on this one---pity, it's such a bloody nice addon.Rich Perry

A long shot - but do you have pointer shadows enabled in your mouse options? And if so, what happens if you turn them off?

Rich,The latest version of the PSS 757 doesn't include the selector tool. I asked JF support about it when I got the aircraft about 2 months ago. Apparently, the cockpit textures that come with the update patch (1.3) render the models to 2D+VC only.

You might try selecting the opposite Render To Texture setting in the FS9 options. Are you using 32 bit or DXT cloud textures? Since moving the icon bar involves dragging it across a 3D window, and you're getting a crash in the GDIPLUS video dll, it's probably video related. 32-bit and DXT textures don't mix well in FS9, and the Render to Texture setting can be an issue.CheersBob ScottColonel, USAF (ret)ATP IMEL Gulfstream II-III-IV-VColorado Springs, CO

Good info. I did the sledge hammer approach after dorking vista 64...multiple Fs9 installs etc...I reinstalled Vista 64 Ultimate last night...and am finally able to set up a different user with admin rights apart from generic administraor. The way the computer was shipped from factory, had the tech logged in, and therefore, everytime I booted up, I got the little red ball with an x saying incorrect password--I could switch user, and then log in...but I think from a systemic standpoint, it probably wasn't a good thing. Luckily the vendor shipped all the latest drivers etc via CDs...including a tool for overclocking--turbo V--I'm not going to mess with that till I've got FS9/FSX squared. One thing I don't like is when I reinstalled Vista 64, it "saved" all my stuff on "C:/windows (old)"...and partitioned some of the hard drive for that (like 90GB). I reckon I can't uninstall/delete the "old version" without a complete reformat of C:Bob: I was running 32 bit cloud textures (from FSElememtal) so that may be an issue...I'll look at the other options once I get FS9 loaded again.I'm not sure I want to install on root...perhaps (X86) programs.I'll let you know how it goes. Thanks again...at least I'm getting a stout vista 64 learning curve.Rich Perry
