Which ATC?

Featured Replies

Recently, a new version of an ATC add-on which I don't remember was announced at some FS site which I don't remember as well. Considering flying with ATC support, and knowing there's Radar Contact, I'd like to get some recommendations which ATC add-on would be preferrable for me, I've not used ATC before (sorry, couldn't use the forum's search option 'cause atc has only three letters...).Andreas

That's all pretty vague. Hopefully you can remember more about the ATC you seek.Maybe this will jog your memory:The cheapest, easiest ATC to come by is the one in Flight Simulator. However, it is a legacy of some fairly old code, so you might want...... to join an online flying club like VATSIM, where the communication is as real as the volunteers can make it. That's also a free option (usually).... Radar Contact, which works with a hunt-and-peck menu kind of like the FSX ATC, but has a lot more depth and flexibility.... VoxATC, which allows you to use a microphone to speak your ATC commands, but it may mess up your air traffic if you use real-world flight schedules. That comes to mind right away. You don't say what your preferences are, say between realism, price point, ease of use, voice versus keyboard control, etc. Hopefully other kind folks will come up with more ideas, as good ATC can make Flight Sim more interesting.Jeff ShylukSenior Staff ReviewerAVSIM

PFE is a huge improvement on the default the forum is here...http://www.ocs-support.co.uk/forums/index.php

Could be anything based on the vagueness of your post, but, here's a few possibilities that might jog your memory:Radar ContactPro Flight EmulatorVox ATCMulti Crew ExperienceI am an Air Traffic Controller (aka Tokyo Big Wing) - note that this is not an FS add-on but a stand alone ATC 'game'Aviation and Mission - not really ATC but it does involve a co-pilot working ATC for you on missionsMight be none of those of course, but I hope it helps you to remember - Al

I use Radar Contact when I use it at all, but I'm beginning to wonder if any AI ATC is worth the trouble. I just like to fly my plans and do my procedures, and if I think a hold would be fun, then I order myself to do a hold. I know there is Vatsim out there, and they day there are two things available is the day I'll seriously consider it:1. bulletproof and easily installed software2. a Vatsim sandbox where newbies can go an make all the stupid mistakes they can think of without feeling like a fools.Even then, I want to fly when and where I want to, etc.But Radar Contact is great. You can turn over comms to your PNF, too, so you're not bugged a whole long trip.

IMHO, to this day, built-in default ATC has the best quality of (most believable) human voice however it's 'logic' is rather short on capabilities.

PFE is the best one, it includes regional accents and regional phraseology, has a taxi guidance system and caters for hundreds of real world airlines, plus it is integrated with FlightDeck Companion.

VOX ATC is the best by far for me when there's no control in VATSIM (and I haven't flown it for long). It adds the same level of stress and realism, and I can't imagine how the other ATC programs can be as good if you can't talk to them. And I've got them all btw. The voice communication in VOX ATC makes it par none above other very good keyboard/mouse based ATC programs such as RC4 and PFE. If you have a medium to good pc then VOX ATC is the way to go. I'd put it as #1 immediately if asked about buying ATC software. It shouldn't be your entry level ATC program though, there are some things you may need to mess with first.Dirk.
