The Pirate Party

Featured Replies

The Swedish Pirate Party has just won a seat in the European Parliament following last week's elections. This party wants an imternet file sharing free-for-all won 7.4% of the votes, becoming the third largest party in Sweden.http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/news/poli...icle6452298.ece
Mention was made in a different article that four Pirate Bay people had been convicted of something, presumably in Sweden. Yet the website is still in operation. Can you explain, please.

Yes, they were convicted but I understand that they have appealed against the verdict. Who knows where their website is actually hosted.

Also, the pirate party and the website piratebay.org are NOT the same thing and to my knowledge, not officially connected in any way.Except of course for this (quote from Wikipedia article on The Pirate Party):"In April 2009, after The Pirate Bay trial verdict, the Pirate Party gained 3000 members in 7 hours, making it bigger than 3 of the 7 parties in the Parliament of Sweden [8]. One week later it had already 40,000 members - compared to 15,000 members before the verdict and has now more members than 5 of the 7 parties in the Swedish Parliament, with over 46,376 members as of 22 May 2009 (2009 -05-22)[update]." That is impressive, I have to say. And now they have a seat in the European Parlament :(

Absolutely ridiculous in my opinion. Why anybody would willingly support the illegal methods of file sharing let alone allow them to have a government standing is beyond me.Shows how many losers there are in the world that want something for nothing...

I wonder how keen these people would be to join a party that proposed to give all their work away for free, assuming they actually bother to do any work.Al
