RealAir Duke B60 or Digital Aviations's Cheyenne?

Featured Replies

Ohh.. and the Duke doesn't hold a candle to the Cheyennes climb rate, even fully loaded.
I know this is an old post but some of these post are not accurate. Below, I will try to clear some of these concerns if you really want to compare them.I beg to differ. In real life you get 225-236kts cruise on the Cheyenne 1 and the Duke would get 233-246kts with its very buggy Lycoming TSIO-541's. The Cheyenne and Duke were both a delight to fly. Also the Duke was only 250fpm slower than the Cheyenne 1. The Turbine Duke knocks out the Cheyenne by pulling in over 4,000fpm versus the Cheyenne's 1,750fpm. The Duke was one of the nicest planes to fly, but it's maintenance hungry Lycoming TSIO-541 and the fact it was a direct competitor to the King Air 90 brought it to its grave. Beechcraft decided to drop it because it was taking revenue away from the King Air 90. Much was the same with the King Air F-90 and the Hawker 1000. The F-90's performance was as good as the KA 200 but for much less money and the Hawker 1000 wouldn't sit to well between the Hawker 800 and the 4000 so they dropped it as well.
I hate the Duke in real life. :( If I wanted a plane to cruise at FL250+, I'd put TURBINE engines on it.
Well the Duke does come in two real life flavors - a Lycoming TSIO-541 and a P&W PT6A-35 from Royal Duke http://www.royalturbine.com/index.html - surprised you wasn't aware of this if you had a real life experience with the Duke.
Have to agree with ZachLW re the "cartooney" VC. I also have issues with framerates and stuttering with the Duke. It's now parked in my virtual hanger. No such problems with the DA Cheyenne - certainly looks and feels more realistic as simulations go IMHO.I love the older RealAir products especially the Spitfire and SF260.TrafficPilot
I think the opposite. With my graphics, the panel is extremely realistic in both looks and feel. The RealAir Duke is an incredible FSX aircraft and works extremely well with the RealityXP 530 GPS. Add TrackIR Pro and it's phenomenal. The RealAir Duke is worthy in anyone's hanger it you want a highly realistic and detailed aircraft. The sounds are very authentic and attention to detail is extremely good. The only downside is not having the RealityXP 530 GPS already in it :( It can be expensive for some to have to purchase both - maybe have the two work out an arrangement to offer both at a discount at purchase time :)

Yeah, I know, it's an old, old thread. Nevertheless ...Since Robert Young from RealAir seems to hang out here occasionally ... Have you guys at RealAir ever considered making a turbine mod B60?That would be awesome. An upgrade package I'd be willing to pay quite some $ for.

It's out! They made a turbine Duke! How awesome is that ...:smile:Got mine today. Now, with the advent of the turbine Duke and given the fact that DA Cheyenne is quite old and no longer being maintained, the Duke is the way to go.

Having flown the Navajo and Chieftain I got the Cheyenne to awaken some memories. Of course it is a turbo-prop, which is a whole new ballgame for me, but I enjoy flying Luton to Geneva - brings back awesome memories! Geneva opened at 07.00 and we used to have great fun in trying to beat a Lufthansa B737 daily flight from Hamburg on to the ground.Anyway :( a question - does anyone have a tweak to dim the night lighting inside the VC of the Cheyenne - at present it's all or nothing. I'm quite good now at guided changes to my .cfg files but am no good at coding myself.

Hello !I made this mod for perfect and usable midday and night vc lighting and it's working perfectly for me.Use the "dome light switch" over your head to operate vc light.Replace the "LIGHT" section in all four "aircraft.cfg" with this :For Cheyenne I-IA-II[LIGHTS]//Types: 1=beacon, 2=strobe, 3=navigation, 4=cockpit, 5=landing, 6=taxi 7=recognition, 8=wing, 9=logo, 10=cabinlight.0 = 3, -10.95, -21.42, 0.55, fx_PA31_navredlight.1 = 3, -10.95, 21.42, 0.55, fx_PA31_navgrelight.2 = 2, -11.15, -21.49, 0.55, fx_PA31_strobelight.3 = 2, -11.15, 21.49, 0.55, fx_PA31_strobelight.4 = 3, -11.34, -21.42, 0.55, fx_PA31_navtiplight.5 = 3, -11.34, 21.42, 0.55, fx_PA31_navtiplight.6 = 3, -31.31, 0.00, 1.63, fx_PA31_navwhilight.7 = 1, -30.72, 0.00, 8.99, fx_PA31_beacon//light.8 = 4, -8.04, 0.00, 1.45, fx_PA31_vclightlight.9 = 5, -3.65, 0.00, -1.60, fx_PA31_ambilandinglight.10 = 6, -3.65, 0.00, -1.60, fx_PA31_ambitaxilight.11 = 7, -8.25, -20.78, 0.58, fx_PA31_tiptanklight.12 = 7, -8.25, 20.78, 0.58, fx_PA31_tiptanklight.13 = 9, -14.30, 0.00, 1.80, fx_PA31_cabinlight1light.14 = 9, -15.30, 0.00, 1.80, fx_PA31_cabinlight1light.15 = 9, -18.75, 0.00, 1.80, fx_PA31_cabinlight3light.16 = 9, -20.00, -0.35, 1.00, fx_PA31_cabinlight2light.17 = 8, -9.85, -8.02, -0.05, fx_PA31_Deicelight.18 = 10, -10.00, 0.00, 2.00, fx_PA31_domelightlight.8 = 10, -9.60, 0.00, -0.30, fx_vclightwhiFor Cheyenne IIXL[LIGHTS]//Types: 1=beacon, 2=strobe, 3=navigation, 4=cockpit, 5=landing, 6=taxi 7=recognition, 8=wing, 9=logo, 10=cabinlight.0 = 3, -10.95, -21.42, 0.55, fx_PA31_navredlight.1 = 3, -10.95, 21.42, 0.55, fx_PA31_navgrelight.2 = 2, -11.15, -21.49, 0.55, fx_PA31_strobelight.3 = 2, -11.15, 21.49, 0.55, fx_PA31_strobelight.4 = 3, -11.34, -21.42, 0.55, fx_PA31_navtiplight.5 = 3, -11.34, 21.42, 0.55, fx_PA31_navtiplight.6 = 3, -31.31, 0.00, 1.63, fx_PA31_navwhilight.7 = 1, -30.72, 0.00, 8.99, fx_PA31_beacon//light.8 = 4, -8.04, 0.00, 1.45, fx_PA31_vclightlight.9 = 5, -3.65, 0.00, -1.60, fx_PA31_ambilandinglight.10 = 6, -3.65, 0.00, -1.60, fx_PA31_ambitaxilight.11 = 7, -8.25, -20.78, 0.58, fx_PA31_tiptanklight.12 = 7, -8.25, 20.78, 0.58, fx_PA31_tiptanklight.13 = 9, -14.30, 0.00, 1.80, fx_PA31_cabinlight1light.14 = 9, -15.30, 0.00, 1.80, fx_PA31_cabinlight1light.15 = 9, -18.75, 0.00, 1.80, fx_PA31_cabinlight3light.16 = 9, -20.00, -0.35, 1.00, fx_PA31_cabinlight2light.17 = 8, -9.85, -8.02, -0.05, fx_PA31_Deicelight.18 = 10, -10.00, 0.00, 2.00, fx_PA31_domelightlight.8 = 10, -7.60, 0.00, -0.30, fx_vclightwhi
