RealAir Duke B60 or Digital Aviations's Cheyenne?

Featured Replies

Simple comments really1. Duke is the best GA I have ever owned, love every bit of it.2. Some "younger" people seem unable to differentiate between cartoon and computer-generated...Looking forward to my next RA purchase....)

I'm going to be purchasing the duke myself..just waiting for Flight1 to have the boxed edition. Someone over there told me within a couple of weeks. Can't wait! :(

Rob,If I was you, I wouldn't worry too much about the misused words describing your product on Google. You know as well as I do, that 90% of the potential real air customers will do thier homework before a purchase and that involves sifting through the crap on the web. Bottomline, your products speak for themselves and I would imagine most of your sales are due to word of mouth and not a post here or there.JB
Hi JB,You are right. I shouldn't worry too much. We do appreciate the overwhelmingly positive responses about our pride and joy, but of all the comments flying about that particular one stuck in my throat! All the best,Rob Young - RealAir

I have one thing to add to the discussion about the Duke's VC. I certainly wouldn't use the word cartoony for any of RealAir's VCs, but they are quite distinctive, and when the only experience of them that I had was from screenshots on the web, I didn't like the look very much at all. I ended up buying the Duke because I was looking for a new twin, and I had heard nothing but raves for RealAir's flight modeling, so I figured I'd just deal with the VC. What screenshots don't capture at all, in my view, is the intangible 'being there' feeling that the Duke VC gives me. I remember the first time I loaded the Duke up, I sat on the ramp forever, just looking around and clicking switches. Actually using the Duke VC completely changed my attitude towards the RealAir style of cockpit - now I wish I could get more planes like it.I guess it isn't very helpful to someone looking for purchasing advice to say, "you have to buy it to find out if you'll like it", but that's how it was for me. Although, if Flight 1 sells the Duke (they sell some other RealAir products, I think), you can always do the 30-day-money-back trial.

hi rob,I see that you were affected by the post regarding the look of the Duke's VC. Take it easy , as a regular contributor to this forum you are well aware that some posts seem blunt. But that's life...c'est la vie! Maybe the guy meant "not weathered enough to his liking". You should not wory too much since most simmers don't take into account single comments. whatever one does, one cannot please the entire planet! On the opposite scale of VCs, take a look of milton shupe's aerocommader 500 cargo version with an over weathered VC equipped with broken or missing and gauges, and dirty livery ad so forth. Here is what milton wrote about it :Packages includes Gmax aircraft with "hand-flyer" flight dynamics (seat-of-the-pants navigation) and features a custom era correct panel (with a few broken gauges) and easy-to-read virtual cockpit (if you wipe the dirt off), a dirty paint scheme (indicative of bad weather, unimproved landing strips, pot holes, and no time to wash it) and matching interior (treated for infestations), VC gauge backlighting (when the bulbs work), rain effects (guaranteed not to wash off the dirt) and specular highlites in the VC and Html checklists (but who needs them). This cargo model is intended for the hardcore, backwoods, bush hauling workaholics trying to scrape a living out of remote freight. A "clean" version is also included for those obsessive-compulsive types.very funny :(

Hi,English is not my native language but I do not perceive "cartoony" or "cartoonish" as negative.I've been flying Condor The Competition Simulator over the last couple of years and the entire (international) Condor community qualify the original scenery and glider's panels as "cartoon". And it has nothing negative. That graphic style has even many advantages : fps friendly, sharp textures even close to ground. And personally I find it "refreshing".Since 2002 and the first SF-260 I fell in love of RealAir graphic style. Ok I won't say "cartoon", maybe I can say "handdrawn graphics" or "illustration", in opposition to "photo". I don't say photorealistic because handdrawn graphics or illustrations can be ultra-realistic too! And mind you in the communication/web design industry, it seems that people rediscover the virtues of illustration.Yeah RealAir graphics style is really unique and refreshing to me. While most of addons makers use photos, only a few use handrawn / vector graphics, and there are even fewer doing good lively graphics like RealAir. In fact I know none. So I hope RealAir keeps its so unique style. But what I have to say also even if it's difficult to explain is that I prefer the SF-260 or Spitfire or Scout panel graphics compared to the Duke. But maybe it's due to the large "blank" areas of the Duke compared to the other aircrafts.Rob, you often say that in the praises Sean is often forgotten, which is true I believe. So I would be very interested to hear him speak about his Art and comment on this. Without revealing trade secrets I am sure it would be good to hear him speaking about his choices, his style etc.

I just Got The Duke....WOW....Super Airplane. Wonder if they will make the Turbo Duke Version....

You get what you pay for..Understand the tough times right now-but consider what a real one costs--I'd love a real one-the fs one is much cheaper-I personally will not a fly a fs plane without it.

Give me a break. Here is the deal-I'll defend your right to say $50 is too much for a single gauge if you'll defend mine to say it isn't.Fair enough?

I know where you're coming from - I've been there tooBut considering the gauge does almost everything the real one does it's actually very good value, and you can install it in any FS plane.
