RealAir Duke B60 or Digital Aviations's Cheyenne?

You can get the EMB (ENB?) series plug-in that adds bloom to the DX9 and there is no performance loss. My machine is completely DX10 compliant (see signature). It is the FSAA that bugs me. DX10 does get me better performance, but it comes at a loss of FSAA which makes things less appealing (to me). I hear you though regarding the performance, it is better in DX10.
I did try the END series plug-in but had some issues with it, the minor ones relating to performance but the show stopper was it didn't work in full screen mode (screen went black), which kills performance for me. I would probably have run in DX9 mode, using that plug in today if I didn't see those issues./Jonas

Your screen goes black? That's strange. Have you tried messing with some of the END settings i the config? There is a way to set it up at Simviation where you should not see hardly any decrease in performance, if any at all. Check this link out, maybe there is a fix in there somewhere that occurs when a setting is changed (the link relates to FS9, but I believe the same settings can go for FSX).http://www.simviation.com/cgi-bin/yabb2/Ya...?num=1210948044Hope this helps!

Seriously, the Cheyenne is a great product. Perfect VC, complex and not cartooney looking like the Duke. Besides, I hate the Duke in real life. :( If I wanted a plane to cruise at FL250+, I'd put TURBINE engines on it. Someone stated the Cheyenne is a "dated" product--it was rebuilt for FSX for crying out loud! Just how dated is it? Anyway, the Cheyenne, HANDS DOWN.
Have to agree with ZachLW re the "cartooney" VC. I also have issues with framerates and stuttering with the Duke. It's now parked in my virtual hanger. No such problems with the DA Cheyenne - certainly looks and feels more realistic as simulations go IMHO.I love the older RealAir products especially the Spitfire and SF260.TrafficPilot

I can't see the cartoon-like VC at all... What makes it cartoony? Is it because the gauges and dials are 3D? Or you're used to a 2D bitmap as the VC background maybe? The way RA does it makes the VC's looks crisp and clean, and that's how it flies as well.

I love the RealAir Duke and the sound of those piston engines. If you get the Duke, be sure to get the RealityXP Garmin 530 to go with it. It's a great pair.

Can anyone who has both products compare the frame rates of the Flight1 Mustang to the Duke? Many thanks.

Can anyone comment on the performance (FPS) of the Cheyenne in FSX? I have the Duke and the FPS are acceptable, just curious as to how the Cheyenne compares. Thanks,John

Well I can but its not really fair - the Mustang's glass is quite advanced and one needs to factor that in. For example on my system if I get 40fps with the default C172 VC I'll get 25fps in the Duke VC and 18fps in the Mustang. The Cheyenne would do about 25-30 on my system

It isn't fair, but since you asked....Duke in VC = 30 Unlocked and a steady 25 Locked at 26Mustang In VC = 20 Unlocked, 18 Locked at 26Cheyenne In VC = 40 Unlocked, steady 25.8, locked at 26JB

The Cheyenne will run smoother about plus 8-10 FPSJB

Thanks for the data. That's about what I would expect. Good stuff.

I recently picked up the Duke... I didn't regret the purchase at all... a wonderful aircraft, like the entire range of aircraft RealAir has developed over the years.I have had the Cheyenne on FS9 since it was released, and have had many wonderful hours both online on IVAO and offline using it. I never really had major issues with the Trimble GPS, not to say there aren't/weren't problems, but my use of the system never led to CTDs and whatnot.I will probably pick up the FSX version of the Cheyenne, as a discount is offered for previous FS9 purchasers...I always liked the way that DA got it right from the start with the engine sounds changing on rpm settings changed... A lot of the noise of turboprops is the blade noise, and that drop from 2000 to 1800rpm is quite a different sound... they decoupled the engine and prop sounds, something I wish the Aeroworx B200 had had... (the sounds are only linked to the thrust lever positions there)You want a great turboprop simulation? Get the Cheyenne, you want a great piston twin? Get the RealAir Duke...You want both, buy both! :DAndrew

Interesting thread. I own the Cheyenne for FSX, didn't even know about the Duke til now, went and looked at the screen shots, wow, whoever called this 'cartoony' was just yankingsomeone's chain, it all looks great from what I can see.The Cheyenne is a gas to fly, I think takeoffs in it are more of a rush than most jets, it hasgiven me zero problems, the Trimble is a kind of crude interface, but it has worked fine asfar as I've pushed it so far. I just bought the Carenado Seneca this weekend, and its a touchy flier, now I wish I hadseen this a few days earlier, oh well, there's always next weekend :)BTW, just LOVE that black livery!
