Win 7 64 Bit FSX & Payware Issues
No problem here with PC-12 or ATR (nor any other Add-on for FSx). Just get into the habit of using admin priv when installing anything, even if at the time it seems to make no difference..)

ASX to Active Sky Evolution worth it?
In my opinon a big improvement and a no-brainer upgrade.

Anyone here with Pilatus PC12?
Ruthus replied to iainsmith's topic in The AS16 and ASCA | Active Sky | Active Sky Next | XPAX Support ForumFSX on Win7 64bit, so different environment, but never had any ASA or ASE issues with the PC-12. Hope you get it sorted. Are you using BP=0 and overstressing something? PC-12 is heavier than some addons (though not as heavy as PMDG for example).Ian

Service Pack
Ruthus replied to a post in a topic in The AS16 and ASCA | Active Sky | Active Sky Next | XPAX Support ForumROFL, been using it since the day it was released, not encountered one problem that I would call significant.I think you meant when would a patch address whatever issues are relevant to you. Yes I see issues being reported, yes I am sure theya re significant to you and others, no, ASE does not need a patch to make it useable, and its a big improvement over ASA and ASX.Yes I may be feeling grumpy today but such statements give everyone else the wrong impression.Ian

Airmanship Questions
Well FSP penalises for less than 45 mins fuel in the tanks at shutdown and doesnt worry about alternates. All your other points I just allow for some slack up front, plus I usually allow the full 60mins cruise as a little extra in reserve. You dont have to specify an arrival time, but if you do, and you are not too early or too late, then some handy bonus points are on offer.Finaly FSP will penalise incorrect lights, flaps and gear procedures and speeds and incorect handling of any on board emergencies.Overall I find that it really helps with a little more immersion and discourages any "sim short cuts". Thanks for the information, I'll try flying a little faster and see how the fuel pans out, though I think 1350 an hour is going to be nearer the mark.Ian Seager

Airmanship Questions
Many thanks for the excellent information, looks like I need to load fuel for a higher rate.On your poiints, I use FSXPassengers, so i am always trying to hit a failry precise gate time, so juggling speed is quite often what I need to do, especially on flights I am familiar with and for which I have a pretty good predicted flight time. Also with FSXp, I try to get the fuel load down to the minimum (with the mandatory 45mins extra that FSXp imposes) to get the maximum passenger and crew load.Descent is often an area where I can juggle an airspeed gain against a fuel saving though, the penalty for being light on fuel way outweighs the upside of a precise arrival time.Anyway, thanks againIan Seager

FSX nav log not updating
The way it has always worked for me is to reclick the navlog with the kneepad open, then it updates the figures with actual speed, time and fuel consumption for the flight (completed legs) so far.It always stops if you miss a waypoint though. At the moment its stopped working all together.Ian

Airmanship Questions
In a similar vein, can i ask about cruise settings? Once back at 98% and leveled out, what power setting is used. Often holding the EGT right to the line gets very close to VNe. Also the manual talks about fuel consumption planning and allowing for 1000lb/hr. To get that you need to come back nearer to 60%ish torque and a cruse speed of around 195 indicated. What would be a "normal" airline profile? If such a thing exists of course..)Ian Seager

FSX nav log not updating
Well that is odd since i noticed mine playing up the other day. It wasnt updating the actual flight time, speed and fuel usage as it passed each waypoint on the plan.At first I thought it might be the plane (PMDG Jetsream), but today I noticed that it wasnt working with any of my Carenado planes either. It has always worked before, I use the feature a lot to increase the accuracy of my preflight planning with FSPassengers...how odd...I'd love someone to tell me how to get it back, and no, a full re-install is not an option..)Ian

Ultimate Traffic 2 Vs. Traffic X
Well you gonna get both answers. For me SP1 removed all performance issues, mailny cos I never really suffered the pauses that others report. I can only report that for me (with a nice fresh new machine and install) UT2 was always great. The issue of traffic re-insertion still remains and I believe always will remain. Again, with the sequencing of how i start up my flights this is not an issue to me but you would need to bear it in mind. Not all menu options trigger this behaviour (views are ok for example) but going to the map, weather, payload etc screens will. For me, this is simply a non-issue.One negative of SP1 was that I believe they tuned down the traffic density a notch. Now since I got great performance before, perhaps they will allow this density to tune up once the code base (largely new) has settled down. They are also starting to provide tools to allow the import and creation of UT2 style traffic from more traditional BGL type traffic. This will help close off the biggest failing for me, GA traffic could be more dense (though there is quite a lot, rarely visit anywhere without something going on) and of course no cargo or military movements. Finally, one remaining issue and one that I think contributes to a lot of peoples misunderstanding of the package, UT2 only generates static aircraft that have flown recently or are due to fly soon. This can lead to some airports that you might expect to be chokka with aircraft at the gate to look a little sparse, though I guess it helps frame rate. I run all UT2 sliders to max, in all honsetly pegged at 25fps I rarely see dips, especially as you can now tune down the distance at which AI is generated and also what height you will see AI from when they on the ground.OK, ended up longer than I thought, but it seems to me the AI traffic programs are still in religious war ferour status (like graphics add-ons used to be) so read all posts with that in mind.Having bought and tried all the solutions, FOR ME with the flying I DO on MY SYSTEM UT2 is the best solutionLet the games begin......Ian

ASE worth the upgrade from ASX?
Yes, Yes and thrice YES!!I did the ASX to ASA upgrade purchase, then downloaded and installed the full ase package and used the ASA key to activate. Purchase and install was a breeze. People are still chasing our the odd issue but as an upgrade from ASX you cant go wrong. I have never used or installed ASA so what the increment over that is I cant say.Not sure if the ASX upgrade to ASA is still offered, nor sure on the status of the free asa-ase upgrade so go check if it is still there and buy it quick...Ian

ASE Xgraphics integration
When I ask ASE to interface with xgraphics, it goes away and builds as many random snapshots as I ask, which is nice..)It doesnt seem to respect the settings I set in xgraphics regarding which textures xgraphics is allowed to replace, which wasnt so nice..(Perhaps it was just me, but I had to go back and reload the aircraft lights textures to get my Duke landing lights back.Could HiFi confirm how this is supposed to work, and if it doesnt indeed respect my Xgraphics settings, perhaps it could in the future..?BTW, I "upgraded" from ASX to ASE and it is night and day better...wish I had gone to ASA earlier...) ..amd great customer service to get such a substantial upgrade at such a great price.Ian Seager

All of a sudden, massive load times....Why?
Try forcing a rebuild of the scenery indexes, usually works for me. A defrag beforehand would help also.

GEX 1.02 improvements?
Well in my opinion this is a much need improvement. The colours for the UK here in winter were just a very odd washed out pale green. They just didnt seem quite right somehow. Now they look a lot better..

PA28RT weird behaviour on takeoff
Also I have found a decent trim up before take-off makes the unstick a lot less sudden

Ultimate Traffic 2 and me..
Well at the risk of being labeled a salesman (shudder) I will say that UT2 worked straight out of the box as origianlly launched, with zero problems and a better traffic density and activity level at frame rates acceptable to me (and way better than just about any similar quality AI package had given me before). I respect the fact other shad issues, but sorry, I didnt, and I suspect others didnt either.I have applied SP1, without a clean install (i know) and guess what, its even better. At mu local airport I have similar levels of traffic and frame rate is up 5 fps (egbb with scenery 2000, lifted from 20 to 25 with same carenado aircraft). Now its early days with SP1 so some horror may be awaiting for me round the next approach plate. However right now I am absolutley delighted with the product and am not about to go back to any other. There is no perfect AI program FOR ME. They all have compromises but accepting the lack of charter/freight/military (the biggest) and the menu items (non-issue really once a flight is setuup and running) I think UT2 is a great product.I just hope people who crusie through these forums take some of the extreme views and comments with a little salt, good or bad. They are just a reflection of a persons experience of a product in a complex arena ON THEIR SYSTEM.BTW, never underestimate the effects of a nice clean correct FSX install. It seems a huge commitment sometimes but it has never failed to give me a better experience whenever I have done it.Ian

Carenado 206 & W7, FSX
Same here with the stationair sound in win 7 64. Tried reinstalling with admin etc but it made no difference. Its the sharp rasping prop sound that seems to get stuck. I have had it with external and internal views though external is more common. When idling you can blip the throttle and it resets to the correct sounds. Hope this helps..

Ultimate Traffic 2 Vs. Traffic X
All I can say is that is virtually pause free for me (though the reset with some FSX menus is an irritant). I spent a lot of time with traffic x and while trying to sort the FSX stutters out there was a definite effect due to reaching a predetermined distance from an airport, then fsx having to add the ai and sort the jetways out. For me, this stuttering was far more noticable than the small hiccup from UT2, especially considering how little traffic I had then compared to now. But hey, its all YMMV with FSX.I miss the freight and military traffic. However, neither UT2 or traffic x is without issues. Just try messing with schedules, other aircraft and traffic density in TrafficX and a whole new can of worms will consume your days..) For me UT2 is the better compromise, and hopefully getting even better.

Ultimate Traffic 2 Vs. Traffic X
Even with current released level of UT2 I can get the same frames as TrafficX but with around 5 times the AI aircraft (slider settings are meaningless, UT2 generates a LOT more AI).People talk about pauses while UT2 injects traffic, but I used to get a similar effect with traffic x when you get close to a field, was a non-issue for me in the end.Traffic does reset if you go "out" of fsx into say flight planner/load/map. Doesnt really worry me too much. I tend to jump into planner first, let AH/FSX load the plane then the traffic is consistent all the way through. However, having some plane in front of you "disappear" cos you went to the map can spoil some peoples immersion. On the up side, I love being able to flush all the AI away if I dont have the time to wait to take-off or land. Also the traffic density is easily adjusted on the fly to keep frames up in busy areas (usually for me Heathrow) or for heavy-fps planes.i7 860 stock, gtx9800, UK2000 heathrow (not the extreme one), ASX, GEX, UTX, 100% traffic. Pretty much anywhere in the UK I hold 25 fps with just about any add on. Last night approach to Heathrow with Duke was at 8fps which I would normally avoid or adjust traffic down. Taxiing around the terminals low 20s. Needless to say there was an awful lot of AI planes..) You would have to adjust traffic down just to get a landing/take-off slot..)I was worried that GA would not be good, but to be frank I rarely visit any field that doesnt have something going on. Had to wait for a lander and was thrid in queue at Blackpool the other day...Traffic X wins hands down if you want military traffic and charter/freight traffic. To get these using UT2 you would need to run another traffic program alongside. UK has a lot of military fields and they are sadly deserts with only UT2.Have not tried the beta SP yet.Overall, best traffic I have tried, the only ones I have no experience of is the new my traffic (2010?) and woai.

So what is your one all-time Carenado favorite so far?
Mooney, though I have a soft spot for the Staionair as well....

Engine start
I think it would be helpful to highlight the need to check and correct the start locks. Took a fair bit of research to sort this since the discussion about this in the tutorial is after the engine start section and the tutorial load did not have these engaged properly.Once i had this issue correctly sorted I carried on through the tutorial and then came across the discussion about the start locks!

Engine start
Exactly the same symptoms here. Followed the guide/checklist exactly. Engines seem to sit at 20-30%rpm no matter what for a couple of mins then shutdown. SHowing plenty of fuel, fuel pressure ok, igniters normal postion. Like the starter is spooling the engines but they never fire up FSX SP2 on win7 64bit if it helpsAlso ctrl-E does nothing either

RealAir Duke B60 or Digital Aviations's Cheyenne?
Simple comments really1. Duke is the best GA I have ever owned, love every bit of it.2. Some "younger" people seem unable to differentiate between cartoon and computer-generated...Looking forward to my next RA purchase....)

FSX and Windows 7?
I believe the only upgrade for Win 7 is from Vista, ie, no upgrade from any beta even rc or from XP

Stuck in Simconnect ####......
Ruthus replied to Ruthus's topic in The AS16 and ASCA | Active Sky | Active Sky Next | XPAX Support ForumOK, I have figured this out and hope this helps anyone else who gets stuck in this hole. The FSX installer sometimes makes a mess of this!I uninstalled all FSX SP to get back to RTM. I then deleted the entries in WINSxS for all simconnect apart from 60905. I then deleted the entries in the manifests folder (inside the WINSxS folder) for everything apart from 60905.I know this is pretty much what your instructions said (and indeed what I did earlier but I believe it was the errant manifest and security catalog entries that were causing the problem).I then installed SP1 and it correctly entered and created all the right folders for 61242. You will then have entires in WinSxS for both DLLs and matching manifest and catalogs in the manifest folder inside the WINSxS folderNow everything works fine again! If you upgrade to SP2 it should again add the folder for 61259 and the matching entries in the manifests folder (although I have not redone this since I am happy for now on SP1 unless anyone would like to persuade me that this will be fine for ASX and XPAX)I hope this helps, only took me about 10 hours to get it all back in working order.Ian
