The right to criticise something which may potentially be distributing payware textures is not dependent on whether you've bought some payware or not.For what it's worth, I looked at the screenshots and wasn't hugely impressed with things to be honest, just my own opinion and if someone else likes them then fair enough, but if they include stuff that is payware, that's a different matter entirely and certainly a no-no, and if the author cannot be certain it's not the case, which he does state, then that's a no-no too.Al

Hello,Oki doki ....Installed this addon on a FS9 test bench installation. All good... for me after I substitute the water by my preferred and also the sun..No drawback on FPS either.Good job and thank's.Regards.bye.gifGus.

Just for the record, I never stated that this particular file collection has payware files in it. I have no idea what's in it, I've only read the docs that are included with it. It does seem quite clear from reading those docs however, that the author/file-collector/uploader of this collection has no clue about the origins of what's included in his upload either. But just to get another rumor going:Who knows, you might even be getting some Britney Spears pics! :( David R

Hi folksTried it on my setup and it works ok. Just noticed the files are on allnodesbusy.com just now.Tom

I wonder what colour it should be this time of the year, maybe you can tell me eh? What setting was you using for water textures?
I thought you were asking about the water color. You asked, I gave my opinion. It's certainly nothing get in an uproar about.

Just thought I would add my two cents. I have been running it for two days and really do like it. I have all of the add-ons and have removed a few. I've been flying (Real life) for many years and the textures look pretty good to me. These packages are personal taste items so there is bound to be differing of opinion. However, I think the author, or better yet, assembler of this package is to be commended for a lot of hard work that he is sharing with the community free of charge. He fully admits that they are not his original works and that because this work took a long period of time to bring together he doesn't remember where each package comes from. Heck, I have a lot of files on my computer I can't remember the origin of. If there is payware in there, and I haven't seen anything yet that I recognize, I am sure that the author will and will take appropriate steps. In the interim, if you like it, enjoy it. If not, you haven't lost a thing. Personally I appreciate the effort and thank you for sharing! Jim Brouillette :(

Going to test this over the weekend but only once I've done a proper backup of my current installation! I've installed it to a dummy directory just now to see what is inside but an slightly confused that the installer wants me to restart my computer - anyone have any idea why a program which installs textures might need that? Usually you only need a restart for new services etc..?!Geoff

Well lads, the author has asked me to tell you this.......................................... Fact:- probably well over half of flightsimmers do not use freeware because they find it to problematic. Howards Mix was designed with them in mind for Green Deciduous Areas only, hopefully I thought with some real world imagery feed back, as I have never flown over dry parts of the world, plenty of hours over the type of terrain I have modified. Microsoft has not differentiated between lush green and barren areas with regard to inland water,Fact:- an Arid Area Enhancement instead of a Default Restore ( no muddy water in the deserts) would have been nice in the future. Fact:- I do not do forums as I am mildly dyslexic, also I find the advice incorrect unfounded and ######y, the blind leading the blind, not my scene.Fact:- Nobody likes a good joke more than me, but I have been accused of theft of files on both flightsim.com and AVsim.net forums,

Instead of this petulant diatribe, why doesn't he just change his readme to indicate that he's gotten permission from all the developers who's files he's included in his package? David R

Wow!As much as I hate the thought of jeopardizing my Avsim account, sometimes you've just got to follow your heart. That said:Fact: For his next mix, Howard should consider Valium and therapy.

From another appreciated individual;Dear Howard, I have been following your endeavours since g7usl introduced me to your project some time ago and have been receiving your updates as you published them. Finally I removed that which you had sent in small packages and replaced it with your complete package as published on Flightsim.com. As a fellow enthusiast in scenery improvements, albeit at a much smaller level, let me congratulate you on a job well done. You have moved FS2004 along a pace to achieve your aim of bringing it up almost to FSX levels.I and fellow members of my trusted flying team that are now using Howard's Mix are thrilled every time we fly our FS9 and have you to thank for it. The sad thing it that it is what Microsoft should have done with FS9 rather than bringing out the current FSX which at times can be a bit of a cartoon show. We flight simmers want to fly, not play games! Due to their actions, FS9 will continue in use for many moons and with improvements likes yours it can only get better and remain longer. Once again I congratulate you on producing not only a wonderful and welcome addon piece of software but also at no cost to the user. I hope to visit the Ippelpen gathering on 20 Sep this year and meeting you in person would be a pleasure. My very best regards, Ken. Nice to see that some people appreciate months of hard work

Ishould like to know why the rivers and the sea are brown ? Is it possible to change them in blue color?

Sorry, the author has stopped support because of all the flaming done by certain critic's accusing him of doing something he didn't. As a comment to your question, hardly any sea's in the northern hemispere appear blue. Take a look out of the window, next time pass over one in reality eh?

I tried these textures, they do appear to have some issues. There is some very noticeable tiling with the spring textures, almost as if one of the tiles has a darker colour balance than the rest. The autogen placement also appears to be off, especially with some of the urban areas appearing to have almost no autogen buildings at all. As has already been mentioned, the sea appears to be a strange pale brown colour. I've now gone back to my trusty GE Pro II textures...Having said that the textures are quite nice and do give an interesting new look to FS9. However, if "Howard" himself admits he doesn't know where he got most of the textures from then it's something of a minefield...

Is it possible to change them in blue color?
It's entirely possible, just place your favourite water textures into the relevant texture folders and you will overwrite the strange brown ones.

As someone who spends eight months every year earning a living on the seas and the other four months living a stone's throw away from the North Sea I beg to differ. "Northern Hemisphere" seas most definitely do appear blue. In cloudy or dull weather they appear grey, and the only time I have ever seen brown seas is in esturial waters, or very close to the coast on a stormy day when the weather churns up the sea bed.
