And just when you thought that FS9 was finished?I helped to beta test this program and if you want your FS9 to look better than FSX go for this at flightsim.com. http://www.flightsim.com/kdl.php?fid=136201http://www.flightsim.com/zview.php?cm=list&fid=136173You will be amazed, is the only way to describe this.Howard, is a member of our flightsim group and loves nice scenery. He fly's VFR all the time and his work makes FS9 look better than FSX. Just checkout the new files on the other site.Tom, he will upload here as well as soon as the library is back on-line. ;)

Please remember to defrag after loading as, it changes so many FS9 files. It doesen't interfere with any add-ons that you already have, it actually further enhances them..

Looks interesting. Has anyone tried this? If so what are your thoughts?

I tried it, and it wasn't for me.To be fair, I didn't give it a huge chance, but in the area I fly 90 per cent of the time--southern Ontario--the textures in this pack didn't blend in well at all with my Flight Ontario scenery.I think it's worth a try; you may get different results, but as the author advises, make sure to back up your textures. I was running very low on disk space when I installed it, and didn't have the room to back up my original FS9 folder. I ultimately washed my hands of it, uninstalled all my FS9 stuff, and reinstalled FSX (I'd been toying with the idea for a little while now).So in the end, I did get the FSX experience the package promises ... just not in the way I was expecting.

The program backs up your files automatically. Did you not try the 'select a flight' menu?

[ Did you not try the 'select a flight' menu?] I tried the select a flight option and I thought that the sea and waves around the coast were the most unrealistic that I had ever seen. I also took a flight from KSEA and the water around the are was a dark and dirty brown. Not impressed

I wonder what colour it should be this time of the year, maybe you can tell me eh? What setting was you using for water textures?

It should not be brown nor the sea. Coastline and waves in demo flight not natural.

DaveI haven't tried your work yet.(I have to confess a little worried at messing up my stable un CTD FS9)However i would just like to say thank you for all the time and effort you must have put into your creation. It gives us hope that people like yourself are out there and are spending time on flight simulation. We need dedicated people like yourself in these uncertain simming times.I do wish people who take FREEWARE downloads would rather than just post "Huh this is junk" type messages would remember the time and effort people like yourselves put into our hobby.WELL DONE SIR!AndyPS this goes for FSNavigator ,Project airbus etcGawd! i wish i was clever enough to produce something like FSNav or indeed packages like yours.I feel chuffed if i manage to install a third party gauge into a panel. :(

From what I read in "author's" own docs for this package, this sounds like it's a large collection of other people's work that has been modified and then uploaded in this 'new' package without their permission.Based on that alone it certainly wouldn't be allowed in either the avsim or flightsim file libraries because of their respective uploading rules that require that you have permission from the original authors before you include their files in your upload. Or perhaps I misunderstood his own docs, but I don't think so:

I have searched the net for the original developers to obtain there permission and include them in the credits. but this proved a nightmare, as I cant even remember what is actually installed over the time since FS9 was first released.
Who knows, you might even be getting some payware textures. :(David R

OMG, this quote alone is a disaster waiting to happen.

You may, or may not be right. Personally I feel that before you suggest the theft of payware textures you should have the decency to provide some evidence. Please note that the phrase 'Personally I feel that..' means that it is my opinion only and is not intended as an attack on you, just an expression of my opinion.

Over 10 years here and AVSIM is still my favourite FS site :-)

I assume that these textures would replace GE Pro? They seem real nice, but the water textures are pretty drab. Maybe add a little more blue or green.

It really does surprise me with some of you guys. You get something for nothing and all you can do is to criticize. If it wasn't for people that produce such great freeware you would still be looking at default textures etc.Well, all I can say is, take it or leave it. But don't sit on the fence picking holes in a great improvemant, go and spend your wealth on payware instead. then and only then, have you the right to criticize!

Hi Dave,Respectfully, I don't think any of the criticism on this thread has been unfair. In my case, I commented that I tried this package out and that it wasn't for me, given how it looks with the add-on scenery I use most of the time. I don't think anyone has been unfairly dismissive. People have simply offered their opinion of the package, positive and negative. That said, I'll agree the author's quote that suggests he may be distributing others' work without their permission should raise a red flag.
