June 19, 200916 yr Without further ado, please see the e-mail I posted just now to the PMDG support team.Any suggestions are extremely welcome... Dear Sir, I used to be the happy owner of the PMDG MD-11. I write 'used to' because now this program malfunctions in a terrible manner. I decided to upgrade (or probably 'downgrade' from the experience) my OS to Windows Vista 64 bit from XP 32 when everything was functioning normally. The reason was that I wanted to exploit my systems capabilities and RAM in full (Intel 6600, ATI 3870X2, 8 GB RAM) Since the upgrade, I have repeatedly installed FSX (with Acceleration Pack) and then installed FSUIPC4 (registered version) and MD11
June 19, 200916 yr First thing to verify is that both 32b and 64b C++ runtime libraries were installed by the pmdg installer after it installed the aircraft. Try running the installer and selecting the repair options whenever prompted.Rest assured that the sim runs very well in a 64b OS. Dan Downs KCRP
June 19, 200916 yr Dear Dan,Many thanks, I have already tried that but got stuck on a small 'glitch'.If I run the installer I am told that the V. 1.20 patch has been applied and therefore cannot operate. If I run the patch then all I am 'told' is if I want to reinstall the patch. If I re-install the patch I do not get the option on repairing.Unless you mean I should uninstall MD11 and re-installKonstantinos Maragkakis
June 19, 200916 yr I also run Vista 64 bits and I have never experienced any problem except the ones I created myself :( Have you tried installing everything via the 'run as administrator' button? Vista can be a pain in the backside sometimes of you dont do it.
June 19, 200916 yr OK, I unistalled / reinstalled MD11 (as administrator) - repaired the C++ and no joy, problems prevail :( Since I have made so many re-installs of FSX, I do not mind doing another one...Just to be clear:1. How do I fully uninstall FSX from my system? I mean, should I play with any registry entries after performing the standard 'remove' function from the control panel?2. Same as above for MD11 - though it should be the first action to perform3. Again, just to be clear: Do I have to run every .exe to install (FSX - DVD Check / MD11) as "Administrator"?Many thanks guys,Konstantinos
June 19, 200916 yr I am running Vista 64 with no install issues. I have many add-ons as well. The following are the basics, but lets check to be sure:- Have you uninstalled the MD11 completely (delete all the PMDG directories) and then delete your FSX.CFG file? Restart FSX, exit and then install MD11?- Are you installing as an administrator?- Are you running FSX as an administrator?- Are you using proper file locations for the install targets?- When you started the MD11 did you get the ok to run the PMDG dll's questions? Did you answer them all yes? George Morris

June 19, 200916 yr OK George I am on it - once more into the breach!Just one question though - FSUIPC ought to be installed at the early stage, yes / no?????FSUIPC should be installed early, but its not required for the MD11. George Morris
June 19, 200916 yr Unfortunately after repeated attempts where the steps you have highlighted above have been repeatedly followed and confirmed the result has been exactly the same.To add, and perhaps this is part of the 'package' of problems, the issue with Load Manager not loading persists. Please note that this is not the first instance of the same provlem described in the forum. In desperation, I will try to install FS9 and PMDG on Vista 64 and will let you know if the problem persists. If not, then this may be related to FSX in the Vista 64 environment. At your disposal for further information re system or anything else you may require from my end.It is a terrible shame since I purchased and installed Vista 64 so that I could get the most of my system in the MD11 experience.(I am now going through 'withdrawal symptoms' what with not being able to fly!!!!!!!!!! :( )Konstantinos

For example, in the root directory of your C: drive, create a folder called "FSX" and install everything FSX-related under that folder. This way, you sidestep the efforts that Vista (and Win 7) make to prevent accidental changes to application files.Next, in the compatibility tab for the FSX.EXE file, make sure you choose to run as an Administrator. Then you're all set. There is no need to turn off UAC. Tim 14900ks, RTX4090, 64Gb@6000-30-36-36-T2, Samsung 990Pro 2Tb , Dell G3223Q 32" 4k Gsync + 27" secondary monitor. Indeed, even before I encountered any such MD 11 related problems, I installed OS (Vista 64 bit) on my C: drive while FSX (along with any other games or non-essential OS-related software) to drive D:. Any addon I would have installed (as not much progress was made since I spent my entire day trying to work MD 11 on FSX) it would have been on drive D:. No installations whatsoever would be made on Drive C:2. I followed step-by-step the instructions George provided above and you intoned. Unfortunately, all the problems have persisted3. Unfortunately, although I almost tend to run C++ each time prior to running FSX, the same problems persist including the Load Manager error described above4. Almost to add insult to injury, I just installed FS9 plus MD11 for FS9 (I had purchased the COMBO edition) and everything is running smoothly - at least in terms of loading up the MD11 with panels working plus the FS9 menu bar has fully integrated the PMSG options - a fact which most certainly I do not experience on FSX as the PMDG options do not appear as an 'Add-On' on menu bar nor the aircraft is doing anything, nor is the 2D cockpit panel, nor...... (need I go on, as nothing works!)You say nothing is wrong, and I absolutely want to agree with this statement as - perhaps stupidly of me - I invested considerable time and money on Vista 64 to experience as much as my hardware could offer on MD 11 on FSX.It only looks ironic to me that if there is any experience to be made, I will probably obtain from FS9..Now, this is a PMDG support forum, any further advice please?????????Konstantinos Maragkakis
June 19, 200916 yr ...And just a final addition - with apologies for troubling you with my constant posts:In fairness to PMDG, I am beginning to believe that the 'original sin' is not with the PMDG necessarily but with FSX installing on Vista 64.One thing that occurred to me right now is how easily FS9 was installed in the system. Everything went 100% smoothly and FS shortcuts appear normally on desktop and Start Menu (under the Microsoft Games folder).Conversely, FSX never appeared as shortcut on desktop or Start Menu. This leads me to believe that maybe there is an original sin in this problem in the installation of FSX. What exactly it can be, however, I do not know as I run everything as administrator.Perhaps I need to uninstall FSX regularly from Add/Remove programs and from registry to have a clean install with admin privileges. If you can suggest any means of removing FSX from registry then please feel free to do so.Konstantinos
June 19, 200916 yr I too was unable to get v1.20 running on my Vista64 machine. v1.12 worked fine. release ver worked fine.I am no novice to configuring machines or FS either, yet v1.20 had me running in circles.I am in the process of reinstalling OS+FSX+MD11 and I will be able to speak with more weight on this matter as soon as I complete my configuring. Can I have some verification from users, that they are in fact using v1.20 of the MD-11 with the Vista64 operating system?
