Ardher, warrior or dakota for FSX

Featured Replies

What is the best Archer, warrior of dakota for fsx that works with sp2 and vista 64. I was going to get the Dakota by Dreemfleet but it doesn't work with vista 64. :(

Well, since nobody else has offered any suggestions, you might want to check out Just Flight's Flying Club variants. The current 'Flying Club X' boxed set has a Piper in it that is pretty good (you can buy the aircraft from it individually too), but the forthcoming 'Flying Club 2' will have an updated version of the Archer III in it as far as I'm aware. I think they'll be releasing the aircraft in that new collection separately too, as they did with Flying Club X. Flying Club 2 looks like it might be pretty good though, they've already released the Beechcraft Duchess from it this week as a standalone download, and that's pretty nice.Check on the Just Flight site for Vista compatibility, as I'm not certain about that, but I do know they are SP2/Acceleration/DX10 compatible.Just remember: The first rule of Flying Club is, you do not talk about Flying Club. :( Al

I'm using a Dakota (the Carenado one) that was originally made for FS9 and then a patch provided for FSX. This is my go to plane in FSX. I can not say whether it would work in Vista 64bit though.Click for the full size picspiper-dakota-thumb01.jpg piper-dakota-thumb02.jpg

The Dreamfleet Dakota is excellent. One of my favorites. Now, I believe it will work in a 64 Bit OS if you have, or are willing to purchase, the new Reality 430/530 WAAS GNS units, as they use a 32 bit trainer, vs what is included with the Dreamfleet Dakota, as that unit uses the old 16 bit trainer.Or....you could also swap out the GPS unit for less expensive (than RXP) 'Friendly Panel' version of the 430, or any other 430 that you may have, and can use in another aircraft.

thanks. I checked the Archer in Flying club and it doesn't have any GPS. Can the default FSX GPS be used in any aircraft?

I would use Dreamfleets Dakota and mod the GPS to one of the many freeware ones or buy the RXP unit which is what I finally did.See this thread:http://forums.flightsim.com/vbfs/showthread.php?t=196117

Yup, you can just put the GPS in by simply adding it in the config file.Al

It's very simple. Basically all you have to do is modify an aircraft's panel config file in a text editor such as notepad to tell FS add another window option on the FS menu, which you then specify you want to contain the GPS.By way of example, here is the info I added to the panel config file of an aeroplane in FS, when I wanted to add the Captain Sim Weather Radar to it The first bit of text tells FS to create a new window in the cockpit which can be selected from the FS menus in the same fashion as selecting the radio panel or the GPS or whatever. This was a complex aeroplane that already had lots of pop up windows, which is why the window is number 44. Generally speaking it would be a lower number:Window44=CS Weather RadarThis was the bit I added which tells FS to draw that window in a certain location and place the the radar gauge in that window. Note that in this case, the CS Weather Radar is actually made up of two gauges, the surrounding panel bit with the buttons on it, and the screen with the radar display on it.[Window44]size_mm=525,386window_size=0.44position=2background_color=1,1,1visible=0ident=11223zorder=1gauge00=WXR!wr_display, 81,32,364,279gauge01=Captain_Sim.r001.P04!P04_radar, 0,0,525,386All of that is not as complex as it might at first appear incidentally, most of the statistics are simply coordinates to tell FS where to draw the window and what colour to make it etc. Generally speaking you can simply look at the panel config file for an aircraft which already has the gauge you are interested in placing in another aircraft, and simply copy and paste the relevant bit of info into the panel config file of the aircraft you want to add the gauge to. The only thing you have to be careful of is to number the new window you are adding consecutively after all the ones already there. The important thing is to make a back up copy of things before you start screwing around, and then experiment. You'll find it is fairly straightforward and if things go wrong, you can simply paste the text from your back up copy in there again and all will be well. You can get more complex with this sort of thing and place things into the virtual cockpit too, but it is best to walk before you can run!Al

Without a doubt - Dreamfleet/Flight 1 Dakota. Fantastic Reality XP avionics suite along with a really nice flight model. Doesn't look too shabby either:VC01.jpg AC002.jpg http://www.dreamfleet2000.com/Previews/236/preview_home.html
I agree the Dreamfleet Flight1 Dakota is nice. I enjoy the external prop sound with spot view directly in front of while sitting on the ground. Very authentic sounds come with this plane. I also like the animated sun visors in the cockpit. I'm still hoping for an Archer III with Reality XP to come to FSX. This will be my favorite. Until then I will use my Just Flight Archer III which needs sound upgrade.Keith
