June 30, 200916 yr Interesting video at the link about Standard Lateral Offset Procedures used on the North Atlantic tracks. Was wondering if anyone knew how to implement this with the FMC for the MD-11.Thanks, Dave S David
June 30, 200916 yr Author Thanks Dan, I'll be implementing this next time I traverse the Atlantic. I thought it was pretty funny how the one pilot uses a method of simply flipping a coin to decide flying this way on his routes.Dave S David
June 30, 200916 yr So why not program a random generator into the FMS? /roll 3 gives a 0, 1 or 2 which would be the offset used. /Tord Hoppe, Sweden
July 1, 200916 yr ...yes. So now instead of having everybody passing within 1000ft of each other on the airway, they pass within 1000ft while 1 or 2 miles from the centerline. VERY smart of ICAO. There have been better separation techniques suggested, I wonder why ICAO doesn't use one of those instead.Paul
