Help with Seneca autopilot

Featured Replies

Has anyone figured out the Carenado Seneca autopilot?Does it have any kind of attitude hold when the AP is switched on?And when and how does the UP / DOWN rocker switch get used.Lastly, on my AP anunciator, the NAV and ALT readouts are on topof each other.. is this a bug? Or does it work correctly on yoursystem?

Has anyone figured out the Carenado Seneca autopilot?Does it have any kind of attitude hold when the AP is switched on?And when and how does the UP / DOWN rocker switch get used. From what I have figured out It's a simple autopilot. Hitting ALT will cause the Seneca to hold at the current Altitude. So for example, climbing to 3500 feet hit the AUTOPILOT ALT around this alt will hold the aircraft at or near 3500. Use the rocker switch to fine tune the ALTLastly, on my AP anunciator, the NAV and ALT readouts are on topof each other.. is this a bug? Or does it work correctly on yoursystem?
Do you have a picture of this? Do you mean overlapping each other? If so this might be a font issue?Mine works ok - it is just a visual display of what is currently active

Bert I'm with you, the autopilot is totally whacked. Have you been able to get the NAV hold working? (to follow a GPS course?)The only thing I've been able to do is turn it on, and press ALT, and it seems to sort of hold an altitude. I spose I've been able to get HDG to work, but not HDG and ALT

For the record, my Heading button works and follows what I dial, as does the ALT. Make sure you have the Flight Director also on. What still doesn't work is the CHT gauge even after the patch

On mine, the ALT and NAV display is in the exact same location, so if I choose ALT, I see ALT.If I then choose NAV, I still see ALT. If I then un-select alt, I see NAV.

The ALT hold works.. The HDG works, but also resets the heading bug to current heading when activated.NAV appears to work in both GPS and NAV mode. What I cannot find out, is how to operate the UP / DOWN switch.

I confirm Bert I see the same-Nav and Alt reside in the same place. As far as the rocker-it seems to work like the autopilot I use except I have an ATT mode. After turning the autopilot on it appears it engages a wing leveler. At that point you use the rocker to set your climb/descent rates or even level. e.g.-shortly after takeoff, engage the autopilot and then use the rocker to pitch for proper airspeed/climb rate. When getting near your altitude, use the rocker to gradually level off-at that point engage the alt hold. One bug I have noticed is if you for instance engage the nav mode-then turn the autopilot off-the annunciater will still show it on.

I think I answered your question above?!

Carenado just answered my support request and are looking into the AP issue(s).The rocker switch will move the elevator trim if I hit it often enough (like 20 times), but thenthe trim will go back on it's own and the aircraft will revert to it's previous climb rate.No way I can convince it to either climb or descend.

I found rapid repeated clicks do the trick...Try the following..Take off-engage the autopilot.click the up/down button (not trim) on the autopilot until you achieve vy.When you get to your altitude-click alt when you reach it. If you require a different altitude-unclick alt and then use the rocker switch to put you in an appropriate climb/descent to the next altitude-and upon reaching it then click alt. The way my autopilot works and the way this one appears to work-but I have no experience with this one so disclaimers...

Happy this works for you.. it certainly makes sense!Maybe I have a different build, but on my system, the autopilot remembers the trim settingthat was in effect when the AP was switched on, and will return to it.I can temporarily change the climb rate with the UP/DOWN switch, using many quick presses, but as soon as I stop pushing the switch, the trim returns to where it was at the beginning and theoriginal pitch is restored.I guess I'll have to wait for Carenado to release an update.Apart from that, really nice plane!!

Yeah-sorry-my bad-I thought it worked but I get the same response you are mentioning. What I have found is if the autopilot is off-the rocker switch works good (like electric trim) but of course there is no wing leveler. Turning the autopilot on does produce what you reported.Perhaps someone is familair with this model autopilot can comment. I know on a stec 50 for instance a light comes on when on altitude hold which warns you to add a little trim one direction or another. It could be this rocker switch is for that (without the light), instead of being and attitude rocker.

Just had to share this... the simulation may be closer to real life than I realized :( Quotes:"Yea, some advise. Get rid of the 30 year old technology. You will continue to experience buggy performance from the Altimatic IIIc. If it has a "gripple board" (spelling) it is an old version and most shops won't work on them because after they finish, it may be good for a while, but the same & or differnt issues crop up like little weeds (a weed is a plant you don,t want). The controller rocker type switches get easily out of whack and the list of symptoms continue from unit to unit.I suggest removal and drop in a recycle bin some where and look into S-TEC. they provide a good platform (fresh technology) that can start with simple control functions and be added to if desired. I currenty have issue with servo's. on the same system.Good luck.""I have the same airplane, and my autopilot works pretty good... When it works! As above altitude hold seems fine, but when I engage the HDG, the controls get stiff, but don't slave to the DG. After some time, 15- 30 mins, it normally springs to life and starts working. Does anyone have wiring diagrams for the altimatic III so I can start looking for broken wires / Loose connections?"

Looks like you are searching the same sites I am!Someone said this is an Altimatic III which apparently is the same as the Century III. However, I looked at them and they are not the same as this one. It must be an earlier altimatic 1 or 2 which I can't find any shots of or info so far. Here is a link to that manual:http://www.buffaloairways.com/manuals/auto...ilot_Manual.pdf
