July 16, 200916 yr I just downloaded a UPS A320-200 cargo plane. Each time I land and request parking, FS ATC sends me to a terminal gate instead of a cargo ramp. In the Aircraft confg I have "Ramp" designated as the parking type. My question is, should I inclued the word "Cargo" in the parking type or is it just a case of FS ATC sending me to a terminal gate by default? Thanks for any responses, Bill

You have to give the gates or ramps you want to go to a direction parking number such as west, east, south, southwest etc. and when you land the ATC will give you a list of directional gates to go to. Just pick the one you label a certain direction ex. NW parking. Use AFCAD by Lee Swordy.Carl Perry
July 16, 200916 yr Go to flightsim.com and get this file - vp_park.zipA nice tutorial from Mr. David Marshall on setting up your own VIP parking spots.Joe The best gift you can give your children is your time.

Thanks for any responses,A lot depends on what you have assigned the aircraft and in the AFD. Despite what I have read elsewhere, I believe some of the settings do have an effect on non-AI aircraft. In your aircraft.cfg there are two settings that may be relevant:atc_parking_types=CARGO,RAMPatc_parking_codes=NWAMy observations are that for non-AI traffic, the first of the above has no effect and you need to choose from what is offered by the ATC system. If there are no parking spots in the right category available (i.e. they don't exist or are all occupied) they will not be offered. Quite often they are already full. However, I believe the second entry affects both AI and non-AI traffic, although many insist otherwise. Having been offered a gate or parking, I believe the first offering will be to any spot marked NWA in the AFD file. This frequently messes up AI as cargo planes will always park at a NWA gate. Therefore I tend to assign cargo flights of mixed operators a four-letter code ending in C, e.g. NWAC. This seems to be a fairly universal system with developers. So, if you set both your AFD and aircraft.cfg to NWAC (or whatever for your airline) and accept a parking position, I believe you will be routed to an appropriate spot.At large airports it is also worth dividing the parking into South, Southwest, West Parking etc so that you can choose not to be routed to park with military or GA stuff. Note also some AFD files show cargo parking as gates which doesn't exactly help, it is worth changing these too.John My co-pilot's name is Sid and he's a star! http://www.adventure-unlimited.org
July 16, 200916 yr As Joe suggested , this file (from Flightsim.com) will show you how to set up VIP parking in FS2004.Name: vp_park.zip Size: 727,141 Date: 07-27-2008 Downloads: 655 FS2004 Creating VIP Parking for Commercial Airliners - an Illustrated Guide. After landing a commercial airliner, are you frustrated by ATC directing you to a gate which is nowhere near a logical spot? This guide shows how to create a reserved parking gate at any airport and have ATC direct you properly to that gate. This concept will work for a specific aircraft of your choice. The technique is based upon investigations and information developed by Jim Vile and Reggie Fields. Tested in FS2004 only. Compiled in .doc and PDF formats for your flying enjoyment by David "Opa" Marshall.-- After writing this guide I did further experiments and found that I could set up multiple dedicated spots for different sized aircraft at my favorite destinations.I am on vacation right now but upon my return home in early August I woukd be happy to share my setups if you are interested.BTW - The ATC engine in FS2004 treats user aircraft and AI aircraft quite differently.
July 16, 200916 yr Author Thanks everyone for your answers. I'll look into the files you suggested and also try some of the other ideas. David, thank you for the offer to share your set up with me, I'd be very grateful. I think I read in one of your other posts that you were enjoying the cool weather in Colorado, I envy you. Enjoy the rest of your vacation. Bill
