July 28, 200916 yr Author Looks like the attachment is missing, although it was there at one time. This file will be available at flightsim.com soon with filename pmdg0908.zip. Dan Downs KCRP
July 28, 200916 yr I'm suprised, or mistaken...I always thought that sidstar cycles only can be purchased via navigraph (payed service). And now I see that you offer a downloadable file???What am I missing?Regards,GoofEHVK g
July 28, 200916 yr Well almost,Navigraph is offering complete AIRAC cycles. SIDSTARS are only the procedures. Certain AIRACs however do not come with SIDSTARs and others have only incomplete SIDSTARs.Dans offering should be more complete and actual then Navigraphs. "A life is like a garden. July 30, 200916 yr Author AIRAC Cycle 0908 starts today, my US Collection of 69 locations is available at flightsim.com, look for filename pmdg0908.zipIn response to Goof at EHVK, you still need to purchase the navigraph navdata as commented by Alexander. My procedures are cusomized to provide many features such as procedure turns, hold/no-hold transitions and routing between the departure/arrival routes and the airport for use where ATC vectors are not available.Happy contrails. July 30, 200916 yr Author I put an article in PMDG Ops a while ago here: http://ops.precisionmanuals.com/wiki/SIDSTARSIt covers what they are, where to get them, how to use them and I think it is still current. As far as the update goes, I subscribe to a year of cycle updates from navigraph and that process is easy. They send an email when a new cycle is ready. You log in and download an installer that loads the files for you. If you are using 3d party procedures like my collection, then you just copy those to the sidstar folder (the ops article talks to this in more detail) after you have installed the navigraph data.Hope this helps. July 30, 200916 yr Author Why is it important for you to have the most recent updates? For me? I guess I'm a pilot that should have been a navigator, just not many nav seats left anymore. For others? It adds to the realism to fly realistic routes, while not much might change in any one or a couple of cycles over a long period the changes are significant. FSX default navdata is missing a lot of runways, RNAV procedures, RNP approaches, Q routes, decommissioned NDBs, etc. I've always believed MSFS missed a cash stream by not providing a data update service... heck, they don't even provide navdata in a "database" but spread it out in hundreds of bgl files. Anyway, back to your question.... it's my hobby. Dan Downs KCRP
July 30, 200916 yr If I remember correctly from a previous topic, you have once told that you do not use VATSIM and other 'live' ATC tools. Why is it important for you to have the most recent updates? If you never update your scenery, the need would be less. But if you do update things occasionally, it is invaluable. Here's why:Because in some cases, you'll have scenery (navaids) in the sim that has been updated, but the procedures have not. As a result, when you go to land your PMDG 747/737/MD-11/Beech you might encounter an approach that uses a navaid or fix that is no longer in your sim. El Problemo. The problem extends into ILS/localizers/RNAV approaches as well...look at stock KDFW, runway 18R. Microsoft updated the runway lengths (they are correct), but forgot to update the navdata. As a result, if you follow the ILS all the way down the pipe, you'll touchdown halfway down the runway. That's not the same as Dan's SID/STAR data but it is the same concept. Rhett 7800X3D ♣ 96 GB G.Skill Flare ♣ Gigabyte 4090 ♣ Crucial P5 Plus 2TB
