Help landing lights don't illuminate the ground

Featured Replies

Suddenly my landing lights do not illuminate the ground. I have checked and they are all default effects and texture files. What would be causing that?

Is the option ticked in the FSX preferences?Al

Check out my youtube flight sim videos: Here

and now I tried an addon from the library and the lights illuminate the ground... just a long distance in front of me. what happened?? was it active sky or x-graphics?yes the box is checked

I seemed to have fixed it for everything but the Flight1 Pilatus pc-12 where the lights shine on the ground a long distance in front of me.

It's caused by X-graphics there should be an option in there to revert to the defaults/backup.

Cheers, Andy.

I just see a check box to uncheck landing lights. not set back to default. how do I do that?

The `beam` is adjustable using keyboard commands. The F1 PC12 has a peculiar and idiosyncratic nose down attitude on approach that means the beam may simply be angled too high when actually on the ground. Try adjusting it.

Displaced landing light beams i.e. you are sat on the ground and the light effect actually starts a few hundred meters in front of and to the side of the plane is a problem with certain third party aircraft and X-graphics, I dont think in this case it is a beam pointing the wrong way Snave, although I may have totally misread the OP's post.Unchecking the checkbox may revert to the default textures, I'm not sure, I wasn't on the beta team when X-graphics was released and I dont use it or have it installed now, so I'm not 100% on how it works anymore, I do seem to remember that there was a backup process during install though. It's probably worth asking over at the Hifi sub forum if you don't have any luck just unchecking it.

Cheers, Andy.

what files should i restore from the original fsx dvd then? spotlight and halo.bmp files?

You cannot select these files from the FSX DVD. You have to restore the backup from the X-Graphics options menu. The backup which you created before you changed the textures the first time. Then just UNcheck the landing lights option then reinstall the chosen X-Graphics options, leaving the original landing lights in place. But do try what I suggested first

Known issue with that airplane. Nothing on the support forum helped me. I do not have x-graphics.

That fixed it, Thanks! I selected restore backup, then unchecked the box for lights, and hit install theme. and now it works again!! Any reason why x graphics won't work correctly with some addons? Is that just the way it is?

This addon as well as REX overwright the landing lights file. I noticed that REX worked fine on most aircraft but my PMDG products were affected. I searched on google a while back and found the one file I needed to copy back into the FSX folder and that resolved the problem for me. Just do a google search for x graphics +landing lights and you should find the thread that can help you avoid this situation in the future.

Hmm... REX I do have. I'll have to look into this. Thanks.

I have noted that I also have no illumination of the runway from landing lights. I have REX and did a restore of my original texture through the REX application, however this made no difference. Is there any other way to restore these landing lights, maybe from the original media? (although a post further up in the thread sounds like that is not possible?). I have looked on Google but not found any reference to fix this yet. Thanks, Bruce.
