Corsair Memory Just Bought The Farm

Featured Replies

Hi Everyone,Well, the Corsair memory I purchased (7-8-7-20) just went bad, it happened in a heartbeat. The computer was just sitting idle for about ten minutes, then a sudden reboot and now the inability to reboot the system in Windows.Memtest found close to 3,000 errors during the first two tests. I just got done completing their RMA form. This is the second time I purchased their state-of-the-art, top-of-the-line memory only to have it go bad. I'm beginning to wonder about this companies quality.Anyway, looks like I won't be flying for awhile.

Sorry to hear that Mike. What will you be getting to replace it with or will they only let you do an even swap?Jim

Hi Jim,It will be the same as last time, an even swap. I read somewhere there were problems with the quality of the Elpida “Hyper” based ICs, don't remember where I read/heard it.

Hi,Sorry to hear that JK, looks like we're in the same boat. The memory modules I purchased are the DDR3-2000 (7-8-7-20), I paid close to $500.00 for the 6-gig set. I hope they got the quality of the IC's worked out before they send me the replacements.

DDR3-2000?anandtech ran a story regarding the Elpida IC's being iffy. Some good 1600 at CAS 6 such as the Mushkin Redline would be my choice.

Corsair has a great support/RMA system. Contact RamGuy at the Corsair forums. http://forum.corsair.com/v3/index.php

I have to agree with McCrash on their RMA system. I have first hand experience with Corsair's RMA with DDR and DDR2 ram. After RMA's the DDR's twice and the DDR2 once I will never buy Corsair again. Always worked great for 3-4 months then 1 stick would go bad.Muskin and GSkill DDR2/DDR3 have always treated me well and IMO are the best to purchase now.

Although I am very sorry about your experience, I have Corsair for couple of years now, although only DDR2 ("slower" and faster ones too), but they never went bad.But working in electronics shop, I see many broken devices. Even after 1 month. It's the quality of production lately, it's not only hitting computer market, but everything else.I only think we just have to go through it, there is no other choice.

Hi,Well, I finally got an RMA from Corsair. I cannot believe how long it took, guess they are extremely busy with all the RMA's they are handling due to the bad IC's.I shipped it overnight, they should have it by 3pm tomorrow. Lets see how long it takes to get a replacement.

That sucks Mike. I got my replacements from Mushkin within a week of submitting the RMA. And they even sent them first and included a return shipping label to ship back the bad sticks. Corsair should do the same ESPECIALLY since you bought their flagship product. To keep you waiting this long is in my opinion bad customer service.I think maybe you need to light a fire under somebody's butt over @ Corsair. You paid top dollar, you should receive in kind.-jk

You're not the only one Mike. I submitted my RMA request last week for the 1866 version with the Elpida problem, which they said I would receive a reply within 24 hours. After 8 days I called Corsair back and the Customer Service person emailed an RMA number with no instructions or return address. Where did you send yours back to? I assume they didn't give you the option to return them after you received your replacements like JK did from Mushkin...that would be my preference as I can still run my machine on the remaining 4GB of RAM...
