August 11, 200916 yr Is there a way to get HD or SHD water in FSX? If there is, please tell me how. Thanks!

August 11, 200916 yr Maybe there is another thing in your config (Even the GPU driver) that might be influencing your config. I use REX configured to 4096 and this parameter in fsx.cfg and everything is beautiful in fs..... FlavioSSA,I would like to know how you are utilizing REX to see water textures at 4096 x 4096 when the maximum resolution for water textures available through REX is 1024 x 1024. Clouds at 4096 - YES. Water at 4096 - NO.LordAkshay798,I am not aware of any 4096 water textures available for FSX nor do I beleive that you can use a water texture above 1024 x 1024. FSX Texture Guru's please set the record straight.

August 11, 200916 yr What you are looking for is a default water "enhancer" utility. Although the water textures are restricted to 1024 size, there are two main ways to change the water effects in FSX:1. New textures only. Many addons like REX provide different water textures. 2. Utilities that change various settings in FSX that affect the display of the water. FS Water Configurator (freeware) is one of them. You can adjust settings using sliders for things likeHorizon Reflection IntensityVertical Reflection IntensityReflection Blend Curve MultiplierReflection Blend Curve IntensityBase-Texture Color IntensitySun Specular Reflection IntensityMoon Specular Reflection IntensityMoon Glow Reflection IntensityNote some addons, like REX, will have "Water Themes" included that will load certain water textures AND adjust various level settings ("intensities") like those listed above. FS Water Configurator also comes with some user-created themes that change the default FSX water based on slider settings in the catagories I listed above.Either way you go, you can get some very remarkable water effects in FSX using these addons or utilities. Note also that the "level of effects" for the above different settings will vary directly in relation to your "Water Slider" setting in FSX. Some will work at only 2x or higher settings, etc.Rick Rick Ryan

August 11, 200916 yr Commercial Member Now Now water textures or water shader normal maps? yes water textures like any other fsx terrain texture is limited to a max of 1024x1024 but the normal map (or maps for dx10 mode which uses 4 normals and a diffuse texture for water where as dx9 use just one but at 2 diffrent angles/sizes) can but upto 4096 & as long as your TEXTURE_MAX_LOAD=4096 it will load and use the normal maps at 4096x4096 (also if you have TEXTURE_MAX_LOAD=1024 in your fsx.cfg but your 4096 textures dont have mipmaps they'll always get loaded at 4096 but will shimmer like hell)I wouldnt suggest try it without setting up FSWC though as the default shader settings are far to reflextive....all this said once FSWC+ get released though you wont have to worry about using massive normal maps to get better detailed waves as there's going tobe a scaling feature added to the shader tweaker so you can reduce the amount that FSX scales its water normal by :)check this thread for more info on the water normal scaling and just how much it changes the over all perception of scale in fsx....cool stuffhttp://www.fswaterconfigurator.com/forum/i...php?topic=735.0latersGizmo http://shadeforfsx.blogspot.com/
