OR--2- change the fuel for a particular aircraft and have it saved as 'default' for that aircraft.3- both...Interesting question -I just took a look at a few saved flights I have (used Notepad to look at FLT files) and see there is a section in the FLT file which contains the fuel data for each tank etc.Example:[Fuel.0]TankSelector=AllTankSelector1=AllCenter=99.993047993541055LeftMain=99.86668683542625RightMain=99.86668683542625LeftAux=100RightAux=100LeftTip=100RightTip=100Center 2=100Center 3=100External 1=100External 2=100Therefore it should be possible to set up your fuel parameters in the game and then save the flight and have it show up that way when you later select that saved flight. Sure would be simple to try.Hope you will post back the results.

Sure would be simple to try.Hope you will post back the results.David- I just set the fuel and load I wish for a specific aircraft and flight, then Save the Flight. Next session simply reopen that flight and go. You can set up several flights with different fuel/loads for the same plane. (I 've never found that starting first with the KSEA default flight accomplished anything.) Of course the above won't apply to planes where fuel load is integral to a specific flight plan in an FMC.Alex Reid
August 21, 200916 yr Author Opa and Alex,Thanks for taking the time to reply. The main reason I asked is that many (most?) times I load a new flight the aircraft is overweight by default and I have to each time change the fuel (or passenger) load. ( I don't always worry about correct fuel load if I'm just going to 'fly around' a while. :>)Opa- I found where to change the FLT files in the default saved" flights. But I haven't found where to changed MY saved flights. Alex, I think I understand.. but I'm just looking to get a ...generic.. fuel load for anything except a saved flight.. So if I decide to do say a Bonanza flight from Newark to White Plains I don't have to go through changing the fuel. (Guess I'm lazy) I'll give both a shot tomorrow eve and get back. Many thanks..Bill

(Guess I'm lazy) BillBill -open the the Saved Flight with the fuel load you like then simply relocate the plane to wherever you wish, via Go To. The Saved Flight is your generic fuel load!(I should mention that I DO have a saved flight for the PMDG 747 complete with FMC flight plan/fuel load etc and lousy weather. The flight plan is just a takeoff/circuit/approach & low vis landing - requires about 20 minutes. Great for maintaining proficiency and something to do when no time or ambition for a longer session.)Alex Reid
August 21, 200916 yr Opa- I found where to change the FLT files in the default saved" flights. But I haven't found where to changed MY saved flights.Flights which YOU save are normally saved here:C:\Documents and Settings\Your User Name\My Documents\Flight Simulator FilesAt least that is where mine are and I am running XP.
August 21, 200916 yr (I 've never found that starting first with the KSEA default flight accomplished anything.) Alex Reid( Alex, you know some aircraft makers SUGGEST that you start with the "Default Flight" ??? Too technical for me to know why. I asked this question last week)I found out by accident the other day that you can start FS2004 and "Select Flight", select DEFAULT (which for me is the Cessna 172 , at KSEA with the Standard 2-D cotpit. Then without doing anything else select, "Select Flight" and select "Previous Flight" and it will take you to your LAST Flight, and NOT the default flight at KSEA, if your last flight was not located there. Example you close a flight at KLAX, turn your computer off and later restart it and open FS2004. Select Default flight, let it come up and then select Previous Flight and your aircraft will be just like you left it at KLAX, NOT KSEA. jerrycwo4
August 21, 200916 yr It all depends upon how you Exit FS2004.If you do not "End Flight" (which will take you back to the Creat a Flight screen) the flight will be saved just where you were - even up in the air. That is what the "Previous Flight" is.It is helpful if you have to leave the sim and want to come back to where you were easily.
August 22, 200916 yr Author OOOOKAY!! Just spent a couple hours playing around.Opa.. your idea to change the saved flt config definitely works. And Alex your idea to save a plane somewhere, then just move the plane works also.It seems to me that there may be no way to have everything load at 50%, for example, but it is necessary to make a saved flight for each aircraft.-- then move somewhere else...OR,, save a flight at a particular location and change planes. one or the other.. or a combination..Any way it's done I don't see a way to load any "plane at any location" at 50%. No problem..Boy I sure can make things sound complicated. (That's what my wife tells me.) All I want to do is avoid all those OVER GROSS warnings. :>) No biggie...So for now I saved a flight with Milton Shupe's D18S and called it MY DEFAULT--because it has a bunch of fuel tanks I can load at 50% and there's a better chance that when changing aircraft all tanks will be covered. ( although sometime there will still be a full tank here and there.)So.... thanks for all the help. I've learned a lot, as always. :>)BTW---I have a new rule.. Whenever I get a new aircraft, I must delete TWO! :>))
August 22, 200916 yr Hi jerry- I never bother to close a flight. Simply shut down FS once the wheels stop rolling. I keep a Saved Flight set as Default and that's where it opens when I boot up FS next time- usually at the end of a runway ready to crack open the throttle. If I want variety, I'll choose another Saved Flight/Airplane or Go To to change airports or Time of Day or Weather etc. I like short flights because ususlly I have another experiment I'm anxious to try!!!Alex Reid
August 22, 200916 yr Bill,[edit]When you load a saved flight it pulls the fuel status from the *.flt file. When you create-a-flight the fuel status is pulled from your default flight.So...[/edit]In Windows Explorer navigate to your "My Documents" and open the folder titled "Flight Simulator Files".In that folder you should now find a file titled "MY DEFAULT.flt" (without the quote marks).Right click on that file and "open with.." Notepad.Scroll down to a section labeled - [Fuel.0]Edit all the numerical values to 50.Close the file saving your changes. Now any plane you load should load with 50% fuel in all tanks.Hope this helps,Joe The best gift you can give your children is your time.
August 22, 200916 yr Author Hi Joe,I tried your suggestion. Saved the flight as "MY DEFAULT.flt" Some aircraft work, some still have 1- tanks at 100%.Here's the FUEL in the cfg-- aircraft is the Shupe's D18 S.. Fuel.0]TankSelector=AllTankSelector1=AllCenter=50LeftMain=50RightMain=50LeftAux=50RightAux=50LeftTip=50RightTip=50Center 2=50Center 3=50External 1=50External 2=50Bill
August 22, 200916 yr We have covered the 11 parameters for tank name listed in the SDK.I would suggest you look in the aircraft.cfg file for a plane that loads a tank at 100%.In the aircraft.cfg file (located in ...\FS9\aircraft\{folder for aircraft in question}) look for the [fuel] section. In that fuel section look for a tank name other than those you listed. If you find some try adding them to MY DEFAULT.flt and see if that works. Please note that if you are talking about a payware addon airplane it may come with a payload planner that might override the .flt file.Joe The best gift you can give your children is your time.
August 22, 200916 yr Author Hi Joe,Ok-- gotta go to the "Y", shop clean the garage.. I'll get back. Many thanksBill
August 22, 200916 yr Author Hi Joe,I just realized that all the aircraft cfgs look something like these--SGA DC-9-30[fuel]//Longitudinal (feet), Lateral (feet), Vertical (feet), Usable(gallons), Unusable (gallons)fuel_type = 2number_of_tank_selectors = 2electric_pump = 1\Center1 = 5.673, 0, 0, 988, 0LeftMain = 1.523, -15, 0, 1347, 0POSKY CRJ-200[fuel]LeftMain= -1.800, -9.360, -1.500, 1058.000, 0.000RightMain= -1.800, 9.360, -1.500, 1058.000, 0.000fuel_type= 2.000number_of_tank_selectors= 1electric_pump=0Cantu VISTALINERS 737-300[fuel]Center1 = 0, 0, 0, 2313, 0 //Longitudinal (feet), Lateral (feet), Vertical (feet), Usable(gallons), Unusable (gallons)LeftMain = -3, -19, 0, 1500, 0 //Longitudinal (feet), Lateral (feet), Vertical (feet), Usable(gallons), Unusable (gallons)RightMain = -3, 19, 0, 1500, 0 //Longitudinal (feet), Lateral (feet), Vertical (feet), Usable(gallons), Unusable (gallons)fuel_type = 2 //Fuel type: 1 = Avgas, 2 = JetAnumber_of_tank_selectors = 1 electric_pump=0 The percentages occur in the "Fuel and Payload" selection of each aircraft in FS9.Also, I don;t see why even if I saved a flight as "MY DEFAULT", that would affect any other flight because isn't it just another saved flight--like for instance-- "LGA to EWR ?Don't spend too much time on this :>))Bill
